My wife and I just got back from spending a week in Guate. We loved watching your videos before we left. Now we are watching them again to remind us what an amazing time we had there. Love this video on La Ciudad de Cayala. Hard to believe a place like this exists in Central America. We live in Vegas and it is nicer that most of the opulent hotels and casinos we have here. Please keep the videos coming!

I'd say the richest neighborhood in Guatemala is CASA y CAMPO, which is a gated residential located in Carretera and when you go inside trust me it looks as if you were entering beverly hills (not exagerating). A lot of fancy mansions. However you need to know someone in able to go inside that neighborhood. Cayalá is more of a commercial area for the middle class, and yes if you're able to buy an apartment there you must have money but actually a lot of apartments are not yet sold. The people you see are more middle class who go to walk their pets. Rich people don't live there.

Glad to know you also have discovered that part of Guatemala city. The whole country's history is rich and it may come as a surprise to many when they find out about the Germans who settled up in the Northern green mountains of the rainy Cobán area. My ancestors who mixed with Guatemalans.
@GetInTheRing7772 жыл бұрын
Cool a lot of those German immigrants over stayed their rental welcome and never payed their fair share and squatted the lands of the indigenous. There's a whole story about an indigenous man learning law to sue the descendents of the German abusers.
@joelengel24322 жыл бұрын
@@GetInTheRing777 The original Germans were expelled during World War II, their descendants, most moved to Guatemala city and the lands in the north are owned by the natives. I don't see the need to sue their descendants since they had no business with it. Also remember that those Germans worked along side the natives and created and provided jobs such as the coffee plantations and the construction of the Las Verapaces train line. Tell me something, are you also going to sue the Mayans who also carry German blood?

@julioareck2 жыл бұрын
No, photography and filming permits a real thing in Guatemala. It's in part because of security issues (many Guatemalans got very paranoid about being photographed) and also a way to discourage people from doing inappropriate things. A few years ago it was discovered someone shot some scenes for a porn movie inside a World Heritage site in Guatemala, so from then on tighter controls were put in order. ...And, of course, it's also another way of making money.

Respect about video with your big camera you have to understand that Cayaka is where very rich people lives and is matter of security for the, I do believe that the cheapest apartment cos more than one million Dollars that is right Dollars. That why in certain areas people who don't live there can't park o walking around. And I don't blame them if I paid that much I wanted to have good security rules.

I heard of Cayala today and wanted to know more. And this video addresses my needs, explaining for instance that Cayala is in reality a small sector of another city. A development, an estate - but not a city. But imagine my surprise when I recognise the world's most photogenic (those eyes ... here in the main hidden by sunglasses!) "transport nerd", Mr ... Vineberg? De Montréal? Who just did the REM video? Now rediscovered in Guatemala in his traveller identity.

Por lo que tengo entendido todo Cayalá se edificó en terreno privado con un estilo elegante por parte de un grupo de arquitectos que querían hacer algo bonito en vez de lo cubos de hormigón propios de la arquitectura moderna, nada que ver con la política.
