Once while I was fishing with a guide in Alaska the warden boat hit our boat so hard I was going overboard! fortunately one of my buddies was able to grab my hood and stopped ne from falling over! I would have went in right between the 2 boats! Our guide went off on them and they just left without even checking our catch or licenses!

I have done hundreds of these boardings and all we want to do is make sure people are safe. They unfortunately had an accident during an operation and didn't have time to board your boat to do a safety check and give you the paperwork required to be reimbursed for damages received during a contact. They came back after the Presidential detail had passed to give you a claims form and since they were back on normal patrol and were making contact with you , they did a Standard Vessel Safety Check as they would any boat they chose to stop. These men are professionals in ever sense of the word! Semper Paratus.

My friend is in the coast guard and he was overseas on a tour when he first got in, somewhere in Pamama and in the canal he said the coast guard boat struck another boat and ended up sinking it, and they literally kept going. Actions like that are probably why other countries tend to hate us. I didn’t even know the coast guard went that far. I’ve had a similar experience on the lake I go to, not as extensive but fish and game stopped me basically just to check if I had the “required decal” which I did, and they have no consideration: they just plow the RIB right into the gel coat of your boat and then I’m left to buff off the marks. I mean, I know they have to talk to people at times, but there’s gotta be a better approach for the non emergency scenarios.

You can substitute the flares for a sos becon and a flag. It won't expire as long as you have fresh batteries. (ACR ResQFlare Electronic Distress E-Flare and Flag, USCG Approved Replacement for Pyrotechnic Flares - ACR 3966)

Bad Darcy and skinny pudding. New flairs every other year and fire extinguisher. Have to do a list of things to remember just like a list of gear. Same with the trailer. Do lights work, spare tire, ect. I live in Connecticut and always get boarded and when I trailered would always get pulled over for trailer lights not working. Made a checklist put in my wallet to check all trailer gear and safety stuff and then a list of all the rods, gear, ect.

I had the Marine Fisheries in NC run up on me while I was on my kayak , its a Old Town Autopilot so it has a trolling motor on it. He was like 300 yards away , I was in like 3 feet of water depth , and half foot chop. I casted my pole , his bow went up like 7 feet , he came flying in , and he just killed his engine to coast towards me , ran into me at like 3 mph , I had to grab the front rail of his boat while standing to push my kayak away. I yelled at him wtf dude. He was like , sorry , sorry. I said man , I'm in a kayak , if i'm doing something wrong , you can probably swim faster than this will travel. I had everything he ask for, he said sorry , and left. Now when I start loading up at the dock , if I see them anywhere , I walk to them and tell them to not bother me , I got everything I need and I show them my license. Did that for two years , 30 to 40 times , now they all know me and they never stop anymore.

I was on a boat where they rode up the side of a 25" Triton then turned and raked the side of the boat doing 8K of fiberglass damage. The safety check went out the window at that point. They did pay for damages. They should not have boarded after making their mistake under the guise of giving you a form.
