What made Roy Clark so special, is that he could play all these instruments with great proficiency...but what was even more amazing is that he could play any genre of music! God given talent indeed!!!

It’s always been a mistake to think that rock artists are the only good guitar players but country “pickers” can match them any day of the week. Glen Campbell and Roy Clark played together a lot and they were fabulous!

Fun fact: My Granddaddy wrote a song for Roy Clark. “Thank God and Greyhound” His name was John Ed Nix. I met Roy when I was young around 10-12 I recall specifically in the audience of a concert and he honored my grandfather. We took pics afterwards. He said “Thank God and y'all I eat.” 😅 Very good memories. Nice guy. ❤

His song "Yesterday When I Was Young" is great, too, but also the *best* life-lesson i have ever heard. I heard it when i was young, maybe 12? and i have *never* forgotten the message/lesson. Its about living a self-centered life, and how it will cause you to die alone and lonely. Please react to it--"Yesterday When I Was Young." Thx!

Roy Clark is really amazing. I’m glad to see that he’s starting to get some love again. A lot of people that play banjo can do some amazing things on a guitar. StringBean or Grandpa Jones, Flat and Scrubs, all good people to check out if you’re just wanting to see some amazing playing on a string instrument. Shucking the Corn sounds like a goofy waste of time, but Ronnie and Roy McCoury can play. Ignore the fact that they’re on banjos. Just watch them and they will blow you away. These people can pick. I like all types of music. Like that I found your channel.

Hey AD great find. For a country player it would have to be Glen Campbell and Duane Eddy. They were taking over from Chuck. You should do a list of great players who were radio heroes. Slash don't get enough love. He is the best riff rocker. Eddie Van Halen is on the list and maybe the greatest ROCK guitarist. Both are mixed race guys. God love American music.

My best friends father was in the Air Force many moons ago. He was in charge of the musical entertainment for the troops. His wife met many of the stars. She met Johnny cash and Roy Clark. She didn't much care for cash said he was arrogant. She absolutely loved Roy Clark. Said he was the nicest man. There is a photo of my friend as a baby being held by cash.

I knew Mr Cash! My grandfather owned the land his family sharecropped. He was very shy! He put his head down every time he said ma’am or sir or thank you. He was very sweet to us as children because we were pretty obnoxious and always begged him to sing for us. He only sang when our whole family gathered around the piano!

Roy Clark was not just a guitar player, he was a master of stringed instruments and a wonderful entertainer. He was just plain fun to watch. Glen Campbell lent his guitar talent on literally thousands of tracks across many genres as a session guitarist with the Wrecking Crew before the general public even knew of him. Tony Emmanuel is another wonderful guitarist/entertainer who is perhaps somewhat lesser known broadly. Billy Strings is great younger guitarist who plays mostly in the Bluegrass genre. I like Justin Johnson as well, although he is mostly a KZbin artist so far as I know. There is a wonderful duet with Roy and Glen doing an instrumental Ghost Riders in the Sky that demonstrates some of their talent in a live show (Hee-Haw). kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJDOk5qgqNp2m8U

The only one who ever came close to Roy Clark on the guitar was Glenn Campbell, look for his video where he plays the William Tell Overture......it's awesome. Also, he did dueling banjos with a young boy Jimmy Henley where Mr. Campbell played the guitar and Jimmy played the banjo. It's a good one too. But Glenn Campbell is the only other musician in my opinion who ever came close to Roy Clark.

I agree with you it's real hard to call the number one even if we go by their genre of music they play it it's incredibly hard cuz rock and roll is very very crowded house Blues incredibly Crowded House all the genres of metal super crowded country Folk super crowded incredibly hard I indeed have my favorites out of all the blues guitar Stevie Ray Vaughan's my favorite not saying he's greater than anybody else but I think he's absolutely absolutely one one quadrillion that's even a number Dimebag Darrell one in a quadrillion. Again just one man's opinion peace and love everybody
