How is it officially (Guinness world record) the longest highway on the planet? There’s an obvious break in the highway (Darien gap) so wouldn’t that make it two separate roads?

There are several political factors that keep the gap from being crossed and drug trafficking is definitely one of them. Another standout issue that fewer people know about is livestock. Foot and mouth disease is essentially unheard of in North America, but is still quite prevalent in South America. A road would allow the easy transport of livestock, which would risk reintroduction back into North America.

There are a ton of geopolitical issues at play that contribute to the lack of interest in bridging the gap. Here's a few: 1) Prior to 1903, Panama was a province of Colombia and fought a war for independence. With the backing of the US Navy protecting the coasts and the Darién Gap making a land invasion impossible, Panama was pretty secure. 2) The drug trade and illegal immigration through the region would skyrocket if a road was built. 3) Foot and mouth disease has been eradicated in North America, but not in South America. The agricultural industry has always been resistant to livestock crossing those borders, and a road would make that easier.

@Zwei-Rosen
@Zwei-Rosen 5 ай бұрын
@@frostflower5555As I understand it, there was a separatist movement in Panama around 1900, which was supported by the US. The US were finishing the Panama Canal due to strategic considerations. To maintain the control over the canal, they had an interest in installing Panama as satellite state with a string puppet regime. The US sent their navy to block colombian ships from invading their separatist region and secured the independence of Panama. (Once I even saw a film scene , in which the US First Lady designed the flag of Panama 🇵🇦) In result, Panama has no interest in closing the Darien Gap, because it could bring the Colombians to the idea of re-claiming lost territory. In Colombia roads are reaching close to the border, the main part of the Gap lies in Panama.

Dude. That is the stop-gap country until they are guided by cartel, coyotes, and NGOs to the grand old US of A. They enter illegaly, claim "asylum" and are released into the interior of the country. They commit crimes, take jobs, resourses and money out of the country. Furthermore, they then send the money they make back to their home countries whilst sucking up the USs resources from school lunch programs, overuning emergency rooms, congesting roads and housing, etc. etc. and never pay a dime in taxes, whilst citizens foot the bill.

not sure. Almost every project of civiilization has required "costs" in terms of cultural sacrifices or environmental ones. Even the settlement of western North America meant that the tribes who liked to maraud and plunder had to find a different livelihood. When Romans subdued northern Europe the tribesmen had to eventually become more sedentary - ultimately submitting to agriculture, and giving up hunter-gatherer seize-and-plunder subsistence.

Personally I think that based upon figures of 250,000 migrants and 1000 deaths per year, it might make sense to have a road through the area at some point, as it would help regularize migration for asylum seekers and reduce the deaths - also I have heard that a lot of trash and pollution of rivers is occuring because of waste left by migrants that might not otherwise occur if there was a maintained trail with trash cans and rest stops ie a hiking trail next to a highway with a couple maintained lanes. It just seems mad that they would see 1000 people die each year and they arn't protecting anything if it is being polluted by migration anyway. It may also keep people out of random areas and reduce predator risks by having a maintained trail. Undoubtedly some environmental damage might occur but it would likely offset damage being done by not having a safe route.

A seasoned gear-laden hiker on a difficult trail can do about 3 kilometers per hour. Known trails through the gap are between one hundred and one hundred sixty kilometers long. So if you were an experienced hiker following a known route, hiking eight hours a day, you could theoretically make it in 4-7 days if you had no incidents. This doesn't factor in weather, wildlife, cartels, local tribes, or river crossings. That said, there was a motorcycle expedition that crossed through the gap in eight days, and that's the fastest I recall ever hearing of someone making it through.

Well, since there are terrorists already in the Gap and often migrants who can't afford ferries to go around the Gap traverse the Gap, at this stage, to better protect border areas and ensure migrant safety and forest preservation, might as well complete the highway with a 2-lane 2-way road so migrants are diverted to a safer and less intrusive route while #Colombia and #Panamá can better protect their borders from terrorists and their forests from being ruined further due to the lack of a road linking the two sides of the Gap.

Just watched short note that someone presumably Chinese is building bridge between hwy1 in Panama to hwy90 in Colombia to bypass Darien Gap . No more details about it does anyone know anything about it or it's just BS story.

The United States doesn’t want the highway built through the Darien gap. It would make it much easier for any illegal activities from South America including drugs and migrants to get to the southern border.

Why are you using non-Panamanian indigenous footage to depict the real tribal peoples? There’s plenty of real footage available.

I don't understand why they must take that very dangerous route? Why not just take a Plane to a US Airport and enter that way?

🤨Screw the “environment”! 🧐How could conquering this frontier not be a net-plus for everyone? 🧐Since there are already people living there, we’re not exactly talking about an “unspoiled” wilderness, are we?

I think a highway should be built with strict environmental rules to protect nature and the locals.

Ik it does indeed damage the cose enviroment, but we're talking about a huge jungle and a 4/6 lane highway, which would save soooo much fuel

You need to update your video as many nations no longer force people to marry a gender we are not wanting to marry and we do not even have to be miserable with the opposite gender if we are gay.
