Each day we are inundated with media pundits and politicians who proclaim, in a tone of
divine certainty, what is and is not possible-who has a “real chance” of getting elected and
who has “no chance.” To be “serious” about politics and social change, we are told, means
sobering up to these “practical realities.” What too many of us fail to realize, argues Dr.
Jeffrey Nall, is that many of these assertions are intended to manufacture what they claim to
predict. By tapping into the creative, spiritual, philosophical, and historical works and
idealism of the humanities we can empower and fortify ourselves to imagine and enact
social justice and transformation.
