Sad to see my favorite Pokemon VGC player lose a place at the top cut. But to Brandon's credit, he didn't take the win from just the Rock Slide hax; he kept up with Wolfe's momentum-based play and sealed the win with a super-creative tech move. The Twitch chat was right; Wolfe got Wolfe-d!

Wolfe is famous for defensive play style. In this set Brandon caught it and actively made reposition into his favor eventually. He only clicked fake out once.

Dragon Claw was an incredibly clever play.
@Imoxone3 жыл бұрын
Man, the way he kept that dragon claw hidden until the PERFECT moment was just outstanding. Wolfe probably thought he would have used it before in previous chances if he had it. So he never saw it coming

Could these announcers be anymore oblivious? Predicting z-moves when each player already did 1 in game 2.

Jeez. And people say Stealth Rock isnt any good in VGC. If it were used in this first battle imagine
@swordslash84 жыл бұрын
Knight Arcane that meta was really switch based and the current one isn’t as switch based cuz u don’t wanna waste ur Dynamax boosts
@sizzle57754 жыл бұрын
It's not that Stealth Rocks are particularly bad, it's just takes too long and is too much of a hassle to setup.
@Marcusjnmc4 жыл бұрын
you can be punished really hard for a rocks lead in vgc. at worst you go down 4-3 in exchange for slight damage to 2 pokemon. actually at worst you get set up on by offensive boosts & never see the back 2 pokemon. it does a lot better in 6v6 doubles but still worse than in singles.

Stuff like this make me glad there hasn't been an ability like Intimidate that lowers Sp.Atk, cause then they'd have to make more abilities that can suppress it like a lot didn't until this current gen.
@petelim4773 жыл бұрын
Why is intimidate-like ability bad though? Players use a turn to switch in to lower stats by one stage, seems like a reasonable trade off to me. Nowadays with attacking stats going sky high and nerf to defensive strats like Intimidate make the game extremely fast and one dimensional imo

Looking back on it, VGC is pretty boring compared to the Volatile nature of the current meta.

I ain't a pro at VGC, but Gen 8's still pretty fresh. The meta should settle in a few months.

VICTAL Its all positional, imagine that turn 1 game 1 if Wolfe didn’t switch out Stakataka and Brandon’s Salamence used Earthquake? You switch because you need to preserve the specific Pokémon and get them in at the right time. There is a big level of skill knowing when to switch and when to attack with the Pokémon. these are 2 extremely good players, one a previous world champion KNOWN to use tech moves to switch around and get a good board position

I hate this mindset. I always see these comments about how players are always using legendaries and always using the same pokemon but thats how all competetive games are played. In smash you consistently see a few top characters with a few outliers. In LoL you get the same thing. I think it's just casual players are more frequent in pokemon and don't really get this. These players use what's given to them. If Groudon Xerneas are the best in the format people will use them. If Gyarados is the best in the format people will use them. If you look these players are only using some legends. Things like Zekrom or Mewtwo aren't here cause people don't see them as particularly powerful, but then we see Salamence cause people see it's value. Umbreon came second in THIS tournament. I understand casual players tuning into a tournament and not getting to see the widest of variety of pokemon but to bash on players doing their best in a tournament to win is just really dumb. I wish people would just try to get what these players are doing and stop compaining about it like this.
