Shadow Why Do We Need A Last Name It's not though. In doubles, If you take out two of your opponents pokemon and you have more than two left for a single turn, you're golden. You just need to survive for not immediately lose in three turns

But it's not as easy as you make it sound like. Defensive styles like this are difficult in doubles because you have to play precisely the right move every single time or your trapper is knocked out by a double target and your whole strategy falls apart. Your average doubles player (playing VGC format) cannot pull off a defensive team against someone who can hold their own.

Well just in case u still don't know, shiny pokemons are just EXTREMELY rare pokemons of different color variations. Since it's really common in the pokemon meta to use hacks, you often see shiny pokemons in professional play. IVs are bonus increases in your pokemons' stats. Every pokemon since the moment they're born or caught come with a fixed set of IVs that range from 0-31. So for example you may catch a Pikachu in the wild, and you wanna check its IVs so you go online and use an IVs calculator, you type in your Pikachu's stats and the calculator tells you how many IVs (from 0 to 31) your Pikachu has in each stat (speed, hp, attack, special attack, etc). So if your Pikachu has 25 IVs on its speed stat that means your Pikachu simply came with an increase of 25 points to its speed stat. It may not seem like much but at high levels these little increases make the difference. In competitive play it's pretty much a standard to have perfect IVs (31 IVs on all stats), but again, hacks are the law in professional play. In previous generations getting perfect IVs in a legitimate way was pretty much impossible since IVs were determined randomly and you could only pass them down through breeding. That means you would have to catch or breed dozens, sometimes hundreds of pokemon till you come across a perfect IVs on ONE STAT. After that it's do it all again till you get your perfect IVs on all 6 stats. It could take you a full year of non-stop breeding. FORTUNATELY in the current generation (6), we have friend safaris, which guarantee that each pokemon will have perfect IVs on 2 stats. This means that in a friend safari you could catch lets say 10 Pikachus, and you'd have a pretty good chance you have a pool of perfect IVs in there. Just chain breed to pass them down and you got yourself a Pikachu with perfect IVs in like an afternoon of gameplay, ready to beat some ass online.

***** based on the comments I've been reading, you're part of reason why the Pokemon community can be toxic... Mega Gengar is, in a nutshell, incredibly OP. His OP'ness is amplified in a 4v4 DOUBLES setting, where he can trap 2 at once. Not just 2 at once, but 50% of the opponent's pokemon. If the opponent opens with two pokemon that cant counter gengar well, the opponent is screwed, especially considering the prevalence of protect/perish song stall often accompanied by the second active pokemon. It's an EXTREMELY unfair tactic that is made more unfair by the nature of a 3V3 doubles battle. If you have a different opinion, state it, and provide some reason/logic behind your assertions. With your attitude, no one gains anything...

***** I'll just address the meat of your comment; not the vitriol aimed at myself and the community. One, I'm not arguing that shadow tag be banned due to it being "a scarce ability." Rather, a Mega Gengar, a pokemon with extremely HIGH speed and special attack, along with shadow tag, makes for a huge threat that as you say, can be mitigated by Volt Switch cores or prankster taunters. The problem is that while volt switch does solve this issue, as does prankster, they are not common moves/abilities. But when they exist in good numbers solely to counter ONE pokemon, like MEGA GENGAR in this case, there needs to be a recalibration of what is and isnt legal in competitive play. If one pokemon can provoke the implementation of specific moves/abilities, so much so as to fashion a "core" of counters for this one 'mon, it says to me that a change is necessary. Lastly, when you say "the style is weak to hyper offence," I'd have to refute that as well. Given that most hyper offensive pokemon are lacking in the def, sp def, and hp department, (a combination of inherently being an offensive pokemon as well as the corresponding EV investments to accentuate a Pokemon's offensive ability/defensive inability) Mega Gengar can often take those Pokemon out in one shot because Mega Gengar is most likely FASTER and STRONGER than those offensive threats. Just my opinion anyway. But the main takeaway for me is this : If a specific pokemon spawns a group of counters that are heavily incorporated into the metagame so as to limit that one pokemon's effectiveness, then that pokemon is OP. With that admittedly subjective but somewhat defined rule in mind, ( I can elaborate on MY framework for what constitutes "OP", but for the sake of brevity, I wont here) my logic would lead me to believe that this pokemon is OP, and should not be allowed in OU matches.

It means you can bring in a frail Pokemon and it won't take any damage. That's what they mean. If you have something useless to sack, you can bring your win condition in unscathed, and that could be a great reward for losing your low health dead weight.

Not like they were any stronger. As long as the stats are legal who cares if the were hacked. I've bred some Pokemon with perfect stats and I had a buddy just shinify them with powersaves. Same stats as any other Pokemon just a different color and a few sparkles when they are sent out.
