I was forced to add the title overlay and extra transparency after the initial upload got blocked for copyright. Next videos shouldn't have the same problem, hopefully. Again, sorry for all the issues that happened with this video, and I hope you still enjoyed. Episode 8 drops tomorrow, episode 9 on Saturday, and the season 1 finale on Sunday!

The season finale is insane and the show creators managed to outdo this with seasons two and three finishes.

Don't apologize! We're just happy that you uploaded a video 😊

Even without video you guys still have some of the best reactions to dark that I've seen, keep it up!
@ChannelNamePending699Ай бұрын
Wow thank you!!
@amarillion388Ай бұрын
This reaction was (surprisingly) as good as the one with video working correctly, so no worries, please! You are thinking a lot - and it pays beautifully off. You are the right audience for such a gem like "The Dark".

thanks for the upload!!

Ohhh and it only gets crazier! I cant wait to see your reaction to so many more twists! This is the BEST!

It's not a spoiler to confirm that Manny is right. The time travel works in increments of exactly 33 years. So if you travel from November 8, 2019 you arrive on November 8, 1986. If you leave on November 9, you arrive on November 9.
@ChannelNamePending699Ай бұрын
Thanks! That certainly raises the stakes. You can't just go back (or forward) to any date you want.

idk if you've been told when it was more relevant, but just fyi: the wrapper for Raider appearing in 2019 was a big hint towards time travel in the early episodes to German - or many European - audiences, as Raider changed its name into Twix in 1991. The coin they found around Mads' neck was a Pfennig. Germany doesn't use that currency anymore since 2001
@ChannelNamePending699Ай бұрын
We were clued in about the Raider/Twix wrapper, but we didn't know about the coin! It's crazy how many little details there are to this.

I wish I could watch this for the first time again. It's hard to remember what I picked up the first time through, but you two are doing so well. I do notcie people miss that Charlotte is actually Ulrich's boss. She's the cheif of police (ellie says it in an earlier episode). I think the bird thing looks weird, but it's supposed to show that she has that detective mind and is really curious about what's happening from a young age.

Don't know if anyone said it before but Wöller's eye injury was an unplanned running gag. The actor injured his eye just before filming. So they integrated his "healing process" as a running gag into the script. You will see later that it is mentioned once in a while.

The little yellow game piece Ulrich finds in his car was used in the little magic trick Mikkel did in E1. According to the creators the yellow piece depicts Jonas in his yellow jacket and that the piece "teleported" to the different cup in which it wasn't placed in, are the timeperiods which Jonas explores via timetravel.

I recognized it from episode 1 but the symbolic meaning is new to me. Thank you!

Well, this was certainty a different viewing experience. 😉

The "treehouse/watchtower" Jonas slept in in 1986 is a Jagdhochsitz (hunting high seat). They are pretty common in Europe (at least Central Europe like Germany, Switzerland, etc.). I find it a bit funny that a lot of Americn reactors seem to be quite baffled by something so normal to me.
@ChannelNamePending699Ай бұрын
Well now I wish we had those.

You guys genuinely have some of the best reactions to this show I’ve seen, even your audio is entertaining and it’s because of how much you guys actually pay attention and absorb. Keep the reactions coming!

The Wrapper from the Candybar is the same for 33 years only the name on the Wrapper changed. It was Raider and now it´s Twix ;)
@michaelklausАй бұрын
Raider heißt jetzt Twix, sonst ändert sich nix!

Please listen to how people are pronouncing the names in the show. Ulrich, Helge etc.

Rewatching our reactions and I'm realizing how much we've been butchering these names 😭 we'll try to be better about it in season 2

I usually don't do podcasts but since this is about DARK ;) Sooo... there is actually a logical error and it is very mindboggling; this episode depicts November 9th 1986/2019, right? So why does Jonas meet Regina at school? Why does it seem like there are classes going on? November 9th, 1986, was a Sunday; but if we take into account that Charlotte looked up the wildlife cam for Oct 25th instead of Nov 4th then this would have been October 30th 1986 which was a Thursday; still not sure why they changed those dates around

I vividly remember the days when the show was dicsussed a lot on Facebook. There were so many people giving Egon crap for asking "such a dumb question" like "why not forest road?"; then on June 21 2019 season 2 came about and there were people genuinely hating on Egon again for how dumb he was and others who claimed they completely rewrote his character after being so dumb in season one; these were people who had already heard Regina saying Mads went missing in the forest; and had seen Helge (more or less) living in the Doppler cabin; and went through the reveal of this episode that Helge had most likely abducted Mads in the forest and taken him to the bunker near that cabin in the forest;
@michaelklausАй бұрын
Interestingly enough the Satanic Panic became a thing outside the US rather in the 90s. So Egon is kinda ahead of his time here.

12:30 Usually people question whether she told anybody about that before going down into the cave... but the part where she mysteriously summons the gear is probably the part where she calls it in. Then again maybe it is standard equipment in a police cruiser in a town where they have their own cave system? Or maybe they had the gear on hand after they had searched the caves earlier this week!? This reminds me, did I mention this in epsiode 3? I rewatched the show with a friend of mine and in episode 3 when Claudia pressed Bernd on the numbers and is going down into the caves in her heels, he said: "And then Bernd stood up from his wheelchair and cut the rope." Would have made a plot twist. Bit "subverting the expectations" but still kinda neat. Oh and subverting the expectations (of the audience) is basically a derogatory term with us. Hollywood (show) writers weirdly think it was a good thing and use it like it was equal to "exceeding the expectations"; but it never is; it does what the label says: deliver such a bad plot twist that the audience lowers their expectations
@michaelklausАй бұрын
13:55 well... different door from which door!?
@michaelklausАй бұрын
16:55 and that my friends is a paradox; a seemingly logical contradiction; but it obviously is only a seemingly contradiction; for example in BTTF... have you seen BTTF? (EDIT... well you are basically quoting BTTF2; sadly Gale and Zemeckis completely made up two of the integral parts of those movies) well in one scenario the timeline would be rewritten without Jonas' existence; many things would be similar but Hannah e.g. might be drastically different if she never married Mikkel; which in turn might have changed other things around her; but the question is would Jonas seize to exist or simply hang around in a world where nobody knows him? this of course violates one of the core assumptions about time: causality the most liked scenario is rather similar but it solves your issue completely; if we assume this happens in an alternate timeline, then Jonas origin timeline would still exist from a non-linear viewpoint; only in this "new" timeline there would be the aforementioned differences... and Jonas would definitely hang out there without anybody knowing him because usually it is assumed that a time traveler can never return to a timeline once they left it; or we might find out that it is in one way or another impossible for Jonas to succeed in bringin back Mikkel; that all time travel was not only causal but also deterministic; this would of course violate a different assumption we have about time: free will or rather that all potential actions (or rather spontaneous reactions) were possible;
