*Why I use AI generated images →* For anyone expressing frustration over my use of AI because they think it means the looks are unattainable, here's the way I see it: the images are not unattainable, they're actually very useful for creating a vision that you might not find anywhere else. With each AI image, you can find items that look like any of the items pictured, just like with a photo of a real life room. *Real life images and AI images have the same effect; they're visual inspiration to help you craft your own space. Would you want to buy the exact objects in someone else's home anyway?* Probably not. They're often not even available to buy anyway. For example, so much of the decor in my own apartment can't be purchased because I've had it for years. It's no longer available. Real life spaces and AI spaces alike are just about equally "unattainable" when it comes to actually buying things. *The main value in watching KZbin videos and browsing Instagram/Pinterest is inspiration. To stretch your mind and get ideas, then interpret the inspo in a way that's authentic to you. AI images and a random photo on Pinterest produce effectively the same result on your end.* *Something else to keep in mind: the AI tool I use, MidJourney, is fast becoming a commonly used tool by interior designers to help communicate a design with clients.* It's already starting to become a tool of the trade. This is just reality. If you're curious to learn more, this article by an interior designer is pretty illuminating: happyhome.clinic/midjourney-interior-design-inspiration-guide#3 *And probably the biggest reason why I use AI images now: it is incredibly hard to find copyright-free images, especially in the super-specific styles I talk about.* Using Pinterest and other peoples' IG images would technically fall under Fair Use, but it's a slippery slope and I don't ever want to feel like I'm stealing other peoples' images to benefit my videos. I will here and there when it feels appropriate, but AI has become such an awesome way to visually demonstrate what I'm talking about without the stress. *If you have any recommendations for where to find royalty-free images specifically of Dark Cottagecore in apartments, do let me know.* 😉 *Lastly, I have a sneaking suspicion that the people who tell me that they "wish I would show more decor pictures and less of my face" are the same people who are mad at the AI images.* It feels like I can't win. Honestly, I'm just trying to make pretty videos. It's not that serious. I know AI is weird and scary. All technological advancements are. And AI definitely has some majorly problematic issues that need to be worked out. But frankly... making pretty pictures of pretty rooms is probably at the bottom of the list of AI-induced problems. So either accept my use of AI images or get used to seeing more of my face. 🙃

@@ModaMisfit AI's problem is not because it's "weird and scary" and "technological advancement". It's trained off of other people's work and on the side it's using so much energy to operate. It's funny that the cottagecore aesthetic is based on reconnecting with nature and the quiet life in the countryside but to get inspiration for it you have to use a machine to do all the thinking for you. Sorry about all the people commenting that they don't want to see your face, I feel like other channels film themselves talking and it doesn't bother anyone.
@YTisacesspit2 ай бұрын
You really push the boat out to make thing write with yourself don't you. Also being passive, aggressive and accusatory when they express they would like to see more house than you on a reel about decor (strange eh) Not everyone on YT is a natural presenter even though they think they are.
@ModaMisfit2 ай бұрын
@@hamletic But the fact that you’re here *on the internet* seems to undermine your point about the irony of using technology to talk about a nature-inspired style like Cottagecore. Here you are… on a computer or smartphone… watching a video… about Cottagecore… which also takes a tremendous amount of energy to produce. Where exactly is the goal post for what counts as acceptable technology? And I hear what you’re saying about AI being trained on other peoples' work, but I think it’s quite a bit more nuanced than simply considering it a problem. There’s a conversation to be had about what constitutes theft vs inspiration among human artists, and the same question now applies to this brand new landscape of machine art. It’s complex and, whether we like it or not, inevitable. Shunning AI will do more harm to artists than refining it in a way that ultimately benefits us. And when it comes to the interior decor images I generate, they're a mix of so many different visual references that it's basically impossible for it to be considered "theft". Something new is being created with pre-existing references, which can be said for all human-created art. And yeah I agree, the norm on KZbin is for people to film themselves talking about something. Most of the videos I enjoy are just that! But there's something about the topic of decor where some people just don't want to see a human speak. They just want pretty pictures, in which case I think Pinterest is probably a better fit for them, haha. Anyway, I find this conversation fascinating, so thank you for indulging me!
@kailoviАй бұрын
@@ModaMisfit we can just disagree on this, but personally I think in this Climate crisis, it's fair game to point out unsustainable things whatever the context, especially if it's not a "need" based but a "want" based thing. The energy needs of AI are considerable and should not be ignored. I agree with you that for inspo it's actually a great tool, but then again I also hate what AI is doing to artists and already has done by stealing their work. There's been no conversation, no consent, the people creating and running AI do not care about any of the consequences of their actions, and I absolutely am against it because I do not trust people to handle it, as they've already proven they can't and won't. I hope you don't take those statements as personal attacks, it's just critique and worry about AI and it's promotion. Smaller creators using the tools they have available to them is completely different from the companies and parties creating those tools and the blame should be on the companies, not on the consumer. I think you explained well why you use those images, and in this case I do agree on the why. I wish I had suggestions for royalty free images, I can see how that's a hassle especially with videos. So yeah, very complex issue with a lot of nuance, which ofcourse is often glossed over in the comment section. As for the showing your face "too much" on YOUR videos, lol, people feel way too entitled. I actually came to the comments because of your eyes. Don't know how the colour shows irl, but at least on video they looked like a darker green, never seen that before! You and your kitty both have very beautiful eyes, so thanks for showing them and f the haters. But okay, some thoughts on the actual video; I found the video to be well paced, timestamps are great for re-watches and you used very good examples. Great analyses on what works on this style and why and pointing out similar ones, which is really helpful for people who try to pinpoint wtf their style even is. So overall, a great quality video. With the AI images I'm more concerned when people try to hide them, like on pinterest. All AI images should be labeled as such IMO, transparency is key. This was only the second video I saw from you (saw the "practical magic decor ideas" first and loved that!), but checking your page it seems you cover similar styles, and I like the vibe you bring so subscribed. Sorry for the wall of text and happy spooky season🍁

I live on a farm, in an old barn which I renovated into a small cottage. I have styled my cottage with dark witchygoth and cottagecore. I love finding antique furniture to go with my diy projects and family heirlooms. I was able to put in wood paneling/beadbord on my walls and cathedral ceilings, which look lovely with the beams I have throughout my cottage (which I hang my herbs and flowers on. My walls and ceiling is a white but my flooring is a rich walnut and my doors and trim are a matte black 🖤 and it goes so well with my gallery walls which my frames are all black or gold. I have a lovely working fireplace and my buffet is black with stain glass. I plan on adding more stain glass. I have layered rugs in my living room which I love but I want to get some darker and more moody whimsy rugs. I stayed with a classic vintage leather couch, and it has recliners. I would have loved a velvet black couch, but I have a service dog and also get bottle baby lambs in the house sometimes. So I use throw pillows and throw blankets to add texture and whimsy style. I love getting free furniture that are ugly but well built and I have made over a chest (which is my coffee table) painted my dining chairs black and also made over an 80s pine dining table into a beautiful piece with two tones, got black base and a rustic white washed top. One of my favourite things I did when renovating was I found a 1915 vanity and I cut out the middle and put a porcelain sink on top. It’s the main feature in my bathroom. I love to mix metals too. I have lots of brass and copper throughout my cottage. The biggest thing I stuck to was to make sure it’s my style and not a Pinterest house. So I have old 90-150year old sewing machines as side tables and I have lots of Australian native plants (as I live on a small farm in Australia where we have sheep and chickens) so I have some quirky Australian antiques as well as lots of Dutch and Irish decor… which is my family background. I love the dark cottage core style mixed with whimsy goth and a touch of old Australian style farmhouses, which is very different to the American style farmhouse I’ve noticed. Love this video and it’s given me a heap on inspiration for a few more projects I now have in mind. Love Janelle 🖤🥰🌹🫶

I love the dark and the light, enjoy integrating them tastefully, but for those of us who are not attracted to Satan, death, witchcraft, or anything sinister, the dark aesthetic can simply serve as the night, moonlit, romantic, deep, and mysterious without the evil. And it’s beautiful, but most pleasant when there is also some relief from it in different rooms. IMO.
@kailoviАй бұрын
Death isn't evil or sinister, it's a natural part and fact of life. It's the only promise we're given when we're born. Neither is witchcraft, but since you mentioned satan I guess you're some sort of Christian so then viewing witchcraft as evil goes with the territory I guess. Though it's good to remember, that it's not the craft or the tool, it's the intention behind the one who wields it. Kind of like priests are the only ones allowed to practice magick when it comes to abrahamic religions. (sermons, baptisms, chanting, using the cross or making the cross sign are protection spells, blessing water...all of that is witchcraft, just named differently with a "christian aesthetic")

I found some velvet black/copper/dark green rose floral curtains on Amazon, and it is probably my favorite dark cottagecore/forest witchy piece in my living room. The window is pretty large, so when the sun is out, it casts this really pretty warm light, and since it is dark, it keeps the super bright light out, too. :3

I think theres a difference between "putting a mushroom on it", and "making it a vibe", and people who are actually Earth Based in their spirituality, use the mushrooms and live peacefully on the Earth. You can fake it because you think its 'aesthetic', or you can genuinely like it because its part of your soul. Cottagecore or Dark Cottagecore or Dark Academia, is a name thats been invented recently for the way some of us have been living for 40 plus years.

This reminds me of the 1970s trend minus the black lights. The home magazines published out of the UK provide a great resource for this style. Also, take a look at, McIntosh, JOB, and the sinewy expressions and design of voysey . A Loetz or Art Nouveau artists lend itself to this style. Morris and Co., Liberty of London and Stickley still provide original patterns for the home as they’re still selling these timeless designs.

New sub. Maybe think of your dark cottagecore in a city apartment as a 🦇 secret 🦇 apartment, invisible only to you. As a child, I had a book on witches, where a child on the 12th floor found a friend on the 13th floor... but of course, few apartment buildings HAVE a 13th floor.... 8:28 that rug!

Get the natural walnut hulls cat litter. It works great smells fairy core! And it didn't stick to her feet.

Everything was stunning. The only thing I totally don't think snobby is to hide or embellish tech or TV. So simple to even frame a mounted TV or repurpose an old cabinet. It's classy not snobby. I actually cover mine in a beautiful fabric. So easy and keeps dust off lol.

Oh I definitely don't think the actual act of hiding a TV is snobby! It's people saying that you have to do it in order for a living room to look good. That often comes across as snobby. But no, hiding a TV in interesting ways is awesome - just not a requirement. 😊

The peak millennial humor of that Portlandia reference made me realized I wasn’t yet subscribed. I actually felt bad that I wasn’t, I am now.
