The animated ones are A TON cheaper to produce, they can afford to cater to only the hardcore audience, to go for higher ratings, etc. When you're spending hundreds of millions of dollars on a movie, you need a wider viewer base to get a return on your investment, thus lower ratings and more casual accessibility which means it has to be less violent.
