The root if why the trend is trending is so fascinating. There's an acknowledgement of reality that aesthetic styles as we know them tend to ignore - but dark, brooding themes tend to bring that out in people.

I am 69 years old and have been working on this style of decorating my whole life, bringing the outside in and letting nature surround me. My newest addition is a metal gothic style, twig arborthat is in my living room against a wall, table inside, and it is layered and loaded with all kinds of oddities an curiosities; mineral and insect specimens, nests of all sizes, a cat skull, fox tails, strange old black and white photos, old camera and binos from WW1, old books, things too numerous to mention. It will be a real conversation starter but I really did it just for me. I'm weird like that and enjoy the unusual. They say your home should reflect you and speak volumes about your interests, values, etc. Mine doesn't speak....it screams! Really liked your video. I didn't realize my style has a name! The masses have finally caught up to me! Oh, books! Did I mention books? Thousands of books! lol

I can appreciate this style but I would be depressed enveloped in so much darkness…my home is very much English coastal cottage with lots of light, florals, copper and brass and bronze and warm, beautiful antique woods, trailing plants and fresh flowers or blooming branches in unusual containers, too many books and provocative art and old French doors which invite the blooming garden and its sunlight indoors…ahhhh. 🙂‍↔️

Although our house weve moved to in ND (very nordic heavy culture) has already taken this direction some one as stylish and sophisticated laying out this presentation for us has given me extreme confidence that my choices have a place! and are the right direction! That is priceless. I hope you know how much this matters what you are doing. I love the photo inspiration you use. It has helped so many times as I face renovation projects and struggle with the physical motivation to continue. Two different styles. Not the same. Saying “I take the dark academia perspective to dark cottagecore” is like saying “I prefer to cook steak as I would cook my chicken.” You’re taking two different items which live under the same subject matter, and using them to describe one another.

Another great video! I have a cottage in Virginia City, NV and I want to honor its rich history. The walls and ceiling are freshly painted Behr’s Antique Tin. It was built in 1944, so I’m doing Hollywood Regency style, mostly because I inherited a Japanese liquor cabinet, and it is my center piece. But I’m adding a nod to the location’s dark past. A quick search will explain that part, with titles like, “This town is so haunted, everyone leaves at night!” 🤣 Good times! It’s a large property, with other additions built in other eras, but it’s the over arching theme. I look forward to more content, as your newest subscriber!

Very interesting Chaudrey! I like the concept but maybe not so dark. Is there a "Fall" or deep forest scheme that could be used? I really like your ideas but I'd like to lighten the room(s) more. Browns, tans/sand, deep greens, slate, etc. Thoughts? 😊😊😊

Yes there is absolutely is a style that fits what you're describing and is less dark.... It's called Cottagecore! This video focused on an alternative, dark version of the style.

You would probably have to ask a woman, BUT I would think that any style completed in good taste paired with cleanliness and organization would impress. They may not want to live in it themselves per say, but would still appreciate the style and beauty of that design in itself. Just like you may like a friend's car and agree that it is a nice car, but it isn't for you yourself.

As a woman, I would suggest soft textures like sheep fur, and masculine scents, like spices, or light touches (emphasis on LIGHT) of your cologne on pillows or fabrics. Black candles in warm pipe tobacco is a favorite of mine. DW Home makes a good one. Hope this helps!
