Dark Shadows: A Tribute to Barnabas Collins

My 5th Dark Shadows video, this time a tribute to Barnabas Collins, played so well by Jonathan Frid, and of course, his beloved Josette DuPres, as well as Angelique Bouchard, the evil witch who was so integral to the story line. I processed nearly three times as many images as in each of my previous videos and shortened the time frames on each image to make the progression faster. Hope you D.S. fans enjoy our favorite vampire!

I was born in '68 'N never forget the few flashbacks I have. In my 42 years, I never forgot the name of Barnabas Collins. Used to watch it w/ my parents. Excellent complation of images and by the way, excellent taste of music. I have been surfing the internet looking for this song by the band THE STRANDED and have not been able to find it. I would really appreciate if you could help me get this awesome song. Thanks for this masterpiece.

My dad is a serious Dark Shadows fan. He has all 1200 episodes on dvd in a big trilogy pack. Barnabas is what made this show. It was a great show.

Mr. Frid had twenty years of acting experience and he had been in many many Shakespearean plays before he did Dark Shadows. Doing plays and his one-man shows was much more fulfilling to him than his having done Dark Shadows.

A very fitting montage to the late great Jonathan Frid. I may not have been around to have seen Dark Shadows at the height of it's popularity but after introducing myself to the show last year and being the vampire appreciator that I am I see now how much Dark Shadows was loved and admired. Which is why the deep loss and sadness I feel for Jonathan's passing is pretty fresh. I can't wait to see his final appearance in the Dark Shadows movie and I look forward to the many more episodes I watch t

In his bios it is obvious that he has been and still is an actor of the Stage rather than Film, resisting stereotype. He has done stage work steadily throughout his career, even forming several companies. I had the great fortune to meet Jonathan Frid several years ago. He was incredibly humble, gracious, and kind. He also has a great sense of humor. Like it or not, in Barnabas Collins he created an iconic character that is right up there with ole' Drac himself! Jonathan Frid is a great actor.

I was a freshman in high school when we got our first TV. I came home from school one day and got in in the middle of the 1795 storyline. I always wanted to go back to the re runs to find out how this all began. Now at the age of 60 plus years..... KZbin and NETFLIX have given me that chance. I see now how hokey and overacted it was back then........but I've waited all these years to catch up..... an im gonna!!!! Wasn't Barnabas Collins just to DIE FOR....THEN AND NOW..... Just saw the movie yesterday and enjoyed it.It was at treat to see Frid ( 3 seconds of him with his 3 co-stars ).It was a pleasant surprise to see Christopher Lee in it as an old fisherman.He and Johnny had a five min. scene together.:)

The 1795 story arc established Barnabas as a romantic figure. The descent of this noble, gallant gentleman into the darkest realm of despair could not have been portrayed by a lesser actor. Jonathan Frid brought an aliveness, an undeniable beauty and haunting grace to a role which otherwise was destined to be that of a mere monster. This brings back such wonderful memories of my innocence in my youth. I used to get off the bus every weekday from grammer school and my wonderful Mother would have me a snack and a drink waiting and the T.V. turned on to Dark Shadows. It was one of the favorite parts of the day. I never missed it. Thanks so much for such a wonderful tribute to Mr. B. He is the TRUE KING OF VAMPIRES. lONG MAY HE LIVE THRU VIDEOS LIKE THIS. R.I.P. I read hundreds of very romantic and sentimental comments on youtube from Women who loved Frid and his sensitivity and his deep felt emotions that he channeled into his character. What saddens me, breaks my heart is that all, all these hundreds of ladies, DS fans, they all had the freedom to openly love and too marry who they wanted and too share that love openly without shame. Whereas actors like Jonathan Frid, Louis Edmonds, Joel Crothers, Craig Slocum, Keith Prentice and Christoper Bernau from Dark Shadows and the TV actor that someone down in the comments also mentioned, Richard Chamberlain as well, none of these gentlemen were allowed to legally have those loving relationships and marriages like all the Straight Women in the comments were allowed to have. All these Gentle men and gentle souls also had deeply felt romantic feelings in their lives but were not allowed to share them back then when it was still illegal to be Gay. That saddens me. :(

I thought he died on the 13 th but he didn't.According to a article in the Hamilton,Ontario area,Frid died of complications of a fall in the early morning hours of Sat.April 14 th.I just saw his 3 seconds in the new Dark Shadows movie.Its nice to see him and his 3 co-stars get credit at the end of the movie.Lara Parker wrote on her webpage of how frail Jonathan was last summer when they filmed over in England.

The best Barnabas Collins in my opinion, a true original vampire. Other than Christopher Lee as Dracula in the Hammer Horror films. See Twilight fans, this is what real vampires are suppose to look like. They don't sparkle, they are truly gentleman, not stalkers.

Barnabas and Josette kissing under the crystal chandelier just has to be one of the most romantic sequences ever filmed. There's just so much sweetness, respect, and above all else, love between them. It really shows. The colors of the costumes and the background settings were so well matched by the designers. I love how you have made these images sharper and darker. The pairing of them in such a fashion just so speaks to the bright and lovely romance that is within the Dark Shadows.

Terry Bell i agree. tim burton and depp claimed to be fans in the original show too. the movie was complete garbage. Dark Shadows is not a comedy and it drive me nuts they didnt take any of it seriously. slap in the face to real fans.

I refuse to watch such garbage( as the remake)DS was a great soap. Sure it was very dramatic at times, but that was a sign of the times and I never found it over the top. I started watching when I was 11, fell in love during the 1795 storyline. I've just rediscovered it on Amazon Prime Video. Never been so happy to revisit a beloved show!!!

Really, more than a year with no respect/comment on this video? Music is fine for this video, and if you don't like it - well, your just too damn young, and lucky you. Barnabas had the same love, many times over, centuries they were together, and Angelique was his true love. But he was destined to be torn apart by her, and the temptation of new loves many times over in his long existence. Yeah, I know - it was a TV show, but back then we did not see the words 'World Premier' and 'Series' as much as we do today. And my parents back then...? they were not so much into vampires, and torrid love affairs on an afternoon show. They did not want me to watch it, which made it so much more tempting. For us 'KIDS' back then, every episode was an event. And we had only 3 local television stations. Three Stooges, or Dark Shadows? I did not have a DVR back then... but luckily those shows and stations did not compete with each other. I could find time to watch both, and still play outside. I could go on, you'd be bored, but then - you were not there were you? Some day you will understand. CCR: First thing I remember was asking papa, why, For there were many things I didn't know. And daddy always smiled and took me by the hand, Saying, someday you'll understand.
