The chemistry that existed between these 2 characters was fantastic. Their looks, acting styles, mannerisms, voices etc complemented each other to create a very rare screen chemistry that mesmerized the audience with drama, intensity, passion, love/hate etc. Somehow these 2 could pull it off. Both had other romances on the show, but never did the chemistry explode like it did when these 2 characters interacted.

JF took an instant liking to Parker when she came to audition for the role of Angelique. He helped her to snag the role. They were very good friends, and a great couple on the screen for sure.

After reading the book Lara Parker published called "Angelique's Descent" I learned SO much more about her character. She was TRULY in love with Barnabas. There was an INCREDIBLE amount of backstory between the two not shown in the show. They met in Martinique in the market and he took her for a stroll. Angelique later pulled a Cinderella and took the dress that Natalie DuPres did not approve of for Josette and snuck out to the ball being held that evening. She was given a mask at the door since it was masquerade and she and Barnabas met once more and he neglected every other girl at the ball to spend it with her. She ran from him ashamed of being a maid and several chapters later it revealed that Barnabas proposed marriage to her and one return to her in one year. And low and behold in that one year he became engaged to Josette and left Angelique broken hearted. I REAAAAALLY wish they would have stayed together! I seriously recommend this book.

I love Lara Parker.. BUT her books were an attempt to make Angelique into a Heroine. In truth, she was not. Angelique was EVIL and a complete Narcissist.

@fanforeverds1 I so agree with what you said. The more he pushes her away, the more she lunges, and the more he can't control his feelings for her. I've always thought of him as torn between what he ought and ought not do regarding the two women in his life in 1795.

I just read tonight that Jonathan has passed. I am very saddened and remember running home from school to watch another episode of my much loved Dark Shadows. This is a sweet and fitting tribute to the show and actors. Thanks for the great video. It brought back wonderful memories.

I was in Junior High when this show started. It was a head of its time. You could miss an episode because it was hard to catch up. At one time it in DVD in the 80's.

I was very young when I used to watch Dark Shadows, a little kid who didn't understand that love is more complicated than simply something based on looks. One can very easily fall in love with an unattractive man or woman based on other factors, such as character, personality, intelligence, etc.. Thus, I used to wonder, how the hell can Angelique who was so beautiful fall in love with Barnabas who in my eyes at the time was so ugly? You have to admit that there is quite a contrast between the two.

Being so young at the time, I believed that all witches were ugly hags with warts and a boomstick, so I was shocked and at the same time fascinated by this lovely creature who happened to be a witch. But alas, don't they say that the devil disguises himself as an angel of light?

The luckiest woman in Barnabas' life was neither Angelique nor Josette, but Julia Hoffman. All too true of a man of Barnabas' era he loves women as though they are pretty ornaments though not taken seriously, but Julia is the one woman -slowly and grudgingly- he comes to respect as a peer and intellectual equal. Though he often fears Angelique, that's not the same thing as respect. I don't think Julia ever knew how lucky she was Barnabas DIDN'T fall in love with her.

Jane Doe, it happens both ways. Women do not have sole ownerships of 'broken hearts', entitled to misguided 'revenge', and neither are men whipping posts, either. A woman who lies, takes, uses, abuses, and deliberately omits truths is deserving of seeing the back of a man as he walks away. 99% of women out there are raised today, being "educated" by society that they are "entitled" to everything a man has. Marriages in the U.S. have been steadily declining, bc men (in general) have zero, nadda, absolutely nothing to gain from a marriage. I used to think it a shame that Angelique's debut was in black and white. When I see the episode now, however, it feels right. The thoughtful Barnabas at 3:15 has a youthful appearance, the actor less laden with the villainous makeup we saw during the costume party of 1967. Was there something wrong with the heel or fit of Barnabas' right boot? At 1:43, he has this lurching walk, repeated before the stair scene with his enraged father, and the boot seems loose as he's kneeling after the duel.
