My earliest memories are the music to this show as my mother watched it every day. I would have only been a little over a year old when it started, and I do remember later shows as it ended when I was 6. Barnabas is the one who stands out in mind the most and I just started watching the series from the very first episode, I'm only on #43, LOL! Got a ways to go!

So very "elegant" DS's actress Ms. Alexandra Moltke-Ilses our brave heroine Victoria Winters: although she may not have played the ghoul, chill, ghostly bite, darkly wicked characters like her DS's colleagues had the chance to play, VICTORIA Winters (Collins) held her own with such "bravery" standing up against so many villainous DS's characters that wanted to do harm to the COLLINS (which secretly she/Victoria is apart of). I wish that her Alexandra "wish" of playing someone "deadly-wicked" was granted @that time: for our MS. Moltke-Ilses has such depth in her theatrical acting performance. We, my sis & I believe that Victoria Winters father is Judah Zachery (Scary!!!!): her mother is Elizabeth Collins: that house that Burke wanted to buy for his Vicki/Victoria holds the key to her identity. You are a treasure Ms. Moltke-Ilses, amazing!!! Another one of our favorite DS's fame character (s).

I would have loved if she wrote a novel like Lara Parker aka Angelique, on Victoria's conclusion to finding her truth, from her arrival, middle and present and the connection to other characters, that would have been something if she decided to, but I believe she's over her past with the show, as far as I know she never went to any Dark Shadows conventions or festivals.

It seemed crazy and "lively", as you say, because DS was considered in the industry "Experimental television", not really as "campy" as we now would label it!
@TakersMissy
@TakersMissy 5 жыл бұрын
I've never considered DS to be "campy" - the actors all played and took it seriously. Even with his extensive theater and Shakespearean experience, Jonathan Frid had said in interviews that he thought the DS material was as good as any thing he'd ever done before.

I loved the black and white episodes she appeared in the character was a fine contrast to the rest of her family(subdued vulnerable toyed with submissive) after that time transfer thing?the character was less effective...they would have been better off at some point exploring her true relationship with her other family members esp her mom Elizabeth Collins stoddard

Hate to sound prissy, but I do love Ms. Isle's hairdo. Very elegant, yet simple and understated.. As I said earlier, We're seeing a more European-like individual very much connected to her heritage. She gave off the air that she was more mature beyond her then young years when she did DS. Of course, the director had her character's aspect as the stereotypical naïve white-bread American girl, cluless to much of what goes on around her. The real person of Ms. Isle was even then anything but!

She is like her character Victoria...She doesn't understand anything. she doesn't understand who the fans or both old and new, or why the show is popular and so on...gezz does she ever get out in the world. most actors and actresses understand those sort of things and how a character they do becomes a hit with fans.

I KNEW she was nearsighted! When my glasses broke and I had walk around without for a week or two, I recalled how Vicki looked, her eyes looked a bit askew, hooded lids, her eyes looked a bit unfocused, tentatively walking throughout the set -- she needed glasses, but for some reason could not wear contacts for the show.
@TakersMissy
@TakersMissy 5 жыл бұрын
I do know that contact lenses back in the 1960's-70's took a fairly long adjustment time for the wearer and were pretty uncomfortable compared to later years and up through today.
@jasonhurd4379
@jasonhurd4379 2 жыл бұрын
It's possible the studio lights would have reflected off the lenses and caused a glare. If you watch closely, often on older shows, there are no lenses in the spectacles of an actor to avoid the problem of glare.

Dark Shadow's first two and a half years were definitely the best of its not quite five year run. After Victoria Winters was written out, the show often became downright juvenile and schlocky. Even though I was a little kid myself at the time, I felt that the show had lost a great deal of its intruiging and alluring gothic appeal what with the inclusion of werewolves, 'parallel time', and the Dr. Who-ish sci fi elements. I think that DS would have been much better and quite possibly have stayed on the air longer if the writers had stayed with the Barnabas-Angelique angle and not gone off on all of the wild and elaborate sub-plots such as Adam and Eve, Dr. Eric Lang, the leviathans, and others.
@googleuser7454
@googleuser7454 3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I really enjoyed the first years (especially the Phoenix) and even the 1795/1897 storyline as those focused on the Collins family and had very interesting and intricate drama and intrigue. DS had the ability to be mature and genuinely scary/creepy but fell into tropes and re using old plot points when character development could have given the show more life. Even some of the crazier stories like the Leviathan had potential but got wasted

@SuperPussyFinger
@SuperPussyFinger 4 жыл бұрын
Hooked up with him? It’s widely believed that she pushed von Bulow to murder his wife. She’s also accused of having something to do with the murder of her second husband. There was something disturbingly off about her; especially because she is so estranged from Dark Shadows fandom. Now I understand why. She has more scandalous things to do than worry about a goofy TV show.

@whitehoustexas. If you can't believe that, then chew on this: If not for their meager budgets then, the producers could have the endless classic suites that make up New York City classic structures; Grand Hotels, fabled town mansions, etc. from the last century.Why, at the then Pierre and Waldorf hotels the guest couldn't get through the lobbies common suites because of constant movie, and photograph assignments by outside vendors. And "Petticoat Junction"was filmed in a water tower in NYC!
@Atomank68
@Atomank68 11 жыл бұрын
You must understand that Ms. Alexandra Isle has an Old world, very European soul. She really doesn't understand American pop culture and much of what she considers its silliness. She is really much like the actress Katherine Mulgrew of "Star Trek Voyager", reading Shakespeare, listening to Mahller. while sipping a fine wine, in like, good company. Very much more an affinity to the past than the present. Very unlike actress Alice Krige, who seems to thrive in the Sci-Fi\Horror genre. Curious.
