Cons of EV 1. Range will reduce after fee years of usage. 2. Resale value will be very less, as after 7-8 years, battery will be old , replacement would be very costly. Nobody would like to buy 2023 old technology in 2030. 3. Charging points is an issue, especially if you live in apartments or need to travel highways. 4. Its not green fuel. 5. For ride comfort, automatic cars is still an option available.

EV can be equated to Technology. It is absolutely true that EV will evolve with Technology. It will go same like mobile and internet technology. Now, as faced earlier that new will replace the old and things get obsolete with time. Even our ic engine vehicles are heavily loaded with technology. They will also face the same obsolescence may be with a lesser degree. So, one have to accept only thing that is constant here is change.

As the batteries get older their running kms also decreases.. A 500 kms range will soon depreciate to 450 kms, 350 kms, 250 kms etc with every single charge over a period of 3 years, 5 years, etc. Also battery life deteriorates with heat and high temp, so any tropical country like India it's not very good, unlike cold or European countries.

More than an environmental issue, they are a resource issue. Present battery/Traction motor technologies are too much dependent on rare metals , which are called rare for a reason.....That's the reason the battery cost is high, and this lithium and other metal cost is only going to increase as the resources are further depleted. I have never seen cost of rare metals go down in a long run. And most of these rare metals are imported from outside India.

I think battery prices are likely to level out and start rising. Indians are not the only ones buying batteries. The Chinese have CATL and they have verticals in raw materials. We don't. Environmental degradation is more hype than fact. Given the density of cars in India, the matter is mostly hype, except where you have an urban conglomeration of 55 million like NCR. Even that would have a fraction of its pollution if the neighbours were nice and stopped stubble burning. I do not think that big, bulky and expensive batteries are the future. They should be left in the past as a stupid mistake similar to the other renewables like solar and wind.

I am an owner of an ev car and have an average running of 1800 to 2000 kms in a month . I would like to throw some light which a lot of people forget , 1) Any ice vehicle's efficiency also decreases over the year 2) The resale value of an Ice vehicle depends on the number of kms it has run and no of years of ownership and the manufacturer itself . Beleive me if you have 160000 KmS on an ICE vehicle no matter how much it cost you during its purchase the resale cost would be very low with the exception of few 3) All EV cars have battery cells which is true for our laptops and battery powered devices only in car batteries the cells are replaceable ,so if you have a cell which is not at par then that gets replaced .4) An average age of ownership of any car in India is between 6-9 years so anyways we Indians are changing cars within this time 5) With new age technologies coming in battery costs will go down 6) there is no such thing as right time , i mean there are a good amount of people who buy iPhones every year but do we ever know what new has come . Just that the tech is new the change shouldn't be done should not be a thought . If people don't buy EV's the problem will still be there , if we consume in mass we solve in mass . No one knows what is right and what is wrong but we are continuously loosing these non renewable resources . Also now we are going in to e20 fuels , do you know the impact of these blending in the life of the engine? Food for thought

There are many other challenges in EV car adoption. Some of them are: 1. Lack of charging infrastructure. A massive investment is required to come up with a workable solution. 2. Upgradation of the electrical grid Pan India to handle the excess peak load, which will be a real challenge if more than 5% vehicles in India are EV. 3. Ability to handle discarded Li ion batteries after they reach their end life. Remember, each car will throw up about 400 kgs or more of Li ion batteries. 4. Increasing electricity production by whatever means. It would mostly be thermal and gas fired plants. 5. Ability to source critical metals for EV production i.e. Lithium, cobalt, silver, copper, nickel among others. While these are being used in conventional cars, their requirements for EV production will be manifold. We will be totally dependent on foreign countries for their availability. Remember the 'chip shortage' a year back!

Today I have booked a petrol car after giving a deep thought about EV. What stopped me to book an EV? 1. 2022 is too early, I want EVs to mature a little and come up with better range, better battery swapping techniques, 'blasting EV Bikes threat' 2. I didn't want to stretch my budget just because I have scope, instead I wanted to use the rest of the saving as an investment option. 3. The amount of pollution that is generated in Lithium generation is more toxic than carbon-monoxide 4. The amount of savings I make on Petrol are actually more compared to EV (Example: Nexon petrol 10 years running cost vs Nexon EV 10 years running cost when put on excel spread sheet can simply prove it, just takes 10 minutes)

If you only look at money, the reason for buying will depend on the number of km run each year. But if we look into ease of use, lower headaches due to maintenance, your contribution to the reduction of pollution, promotion of electric vehicles in India with your wallet, it starts to make sense even if it is slightly costlier over time for now. Coz the other option is to pollute the environment more, more time of the car in the mechanics garage, little more stress due to clutch, gear while driving, etc.

We are mostly dependent on Thermal Power Stations today. Increase in volume of Electric Cars will increase the consumption of electricity that will lead to exponential increase in pollution in nearby areas of the power station, hence by using the EVs we will only shift the location of pollution from cities to rural areas. EVs will be proved really green when we establish more Nuclear Power plants & produce cost effective & pollution free electricity.

Whereas , petrol car will still give me some return , if I want to sell or exchange it with another car.

If the owner of a EV car uses the car sparingly, then its battery can malfunction and the replacement of the battery would be expensive. I feel an EV owner should drive at least 750 to 1000 kms a month, to keep the batteries in good condition. I learned a costly lesson during Covid. During 2020, I did not drive my petrol car much. Though its battery was fairly new, it started giving problems and eventually, I had to replace it. I wonder what would have happened, had my vehicle been a EV. :)

Writing something please read those who have time Imagine in 2022 you bought a Nexon EV for 16 Lakhs and I bought a Seltos automatic for 17 lakhs. Both of us are driving 50 kms per day for 8 years. Considering 15 km mileage for seltos, and proportional hike in fuel cost. 1 Km costs Rs 8 in seltos, Nexon 1 km costs Rs 1 . ------------------------------------------------------ at the end of 8 years, daily 50 km Total running cost in Seltos = 11.6 Lakhs Total expense in seltos = 11.6 +17 lakhs (buying price) =28.6 Lakhs ------------------------------- Total running cost in Nexon = 1.4 Lakhs Total expense in Nexon = 1.4 + 16 lakhs(buying price) =17.4 Lakhs --------------------------------------- Savings Nexon vs Seltos = 28.6 - 17.4 =11.2 Lakhs Means, nearly 70% of Nexon's investment has returned via running cost And a huge saving ,seltos diesel automatic costs more to maintain in 8 years. ----------------------------------------- Now to the resale. In 2030 when we both go to sell the cars, by that time EVs with more range, budget prices, more charging stations will be there. On the other hand, huge petrol prices, pollution norms etc will be hunting IC cars. So, obviously, the used car market of petrol - diesel cars will be in high struggle. But on the other hand, EVs will have good market. Already you got back your 70% investment. Whatever you get while selling the EV, it will make your 70 % to 100%... ====================================================================== 30 kw is not a whole single battery. Its compossed of small cells. Even if there is complaint, only damaged cells needed change and it convers under warranty. Also there are Nexon Evs which have completed 1 Lakhs. hardly 5% less in range, and it gets replaced the batteries under warranty. A person who've covered 1.6 L kms have saved 12 to 14 Lakhs Rupees in running cost, nearly 70 - 80% of the investment. But the fact is, the car will still run, because EVs got a advanced battery cooling (unlike the Two wheeler EVs)

Why you are not mentioning the truth that for charging the electric vehicle the electricity produced by the government is not from the renewable energy source like solar or wind or water it is majorly from thermal power plant but they say it a zero emission vehicle but they produce more pollution than a properly maintained diesel vehicle but it is invisible for the humans who are owning the cars. Europe runs behind electric vehicles so India also have to follow them. Why Europe want electric vehicles? Because they want to reduce the dependancy on Russia who is the major exporter of crude oil, petrol and diesel to Europe. Europe encourages electric cars because they have good technology and investment in renewable energy infrastructure.

Mining of rare metals and the pollution caused by it is equivalent to 3-4 years emission from ICE engines, so your planet-saving hypothesis is false. Secondly, almost 80-90% of the charging stations around India are running on diesel or coal-powered electricity. So basically, you're paying 4-5 lakhs over for a vehicle whose resale value will reduce sharply after 6 years with it already have created more pollution before even coming on road. Yeah, brilliant decision.

Tomorrow sources of electricity can be different but then you can't wait to develop technology till that time. EV is a need, sooner or later. We should be happy EV cars, especially our own TATA cars are making a significant progress here. To support this those who are capable, should buy EV cars.

Indian car buyers show a very strong "Bhed Chaal" mindset ! If 20 known people buy a SUV the 21st buyer will also go for SUV without thinking for a second about his actual needs the logic being if so many people are buying SUV then that's the car for me too. EV cars have been so much hyped about that people are buying them thinking it's a one time investment that is going to serve without any further costs for the rest of their lives. Most of them panicked after petrol prices crossed 100 per litre. This bubble is going to burst after some unfortunate EV car owners whose cars are going to get damaged in accidents start weeping on the social media about replacement hassles of batteries . According to me it's not EV but alternate fuel solutions which are going to lead the way like what Toyota is doing. Refined and fine tuned petrol engines which are giving mileage of 27km and above are already in the market and car companies will continue to compete to get better mileage with existing technology. Fuel efficiency should be the basis for any car buyer but EVs have still not crossed the test limits as only recently their numbers have shown increase and if I have to buy a new car in the next 2-3 years it would be a petrol and definitely not EV.

Investing in EV is foolishness. Govt is dancing to the tune of America. GST on EV is 5% but on much efficient Hybrid Cars its huge 43% tax.
