This really makes me wonder about other players that have been snuffed and mistreated. Generally I love the game, and I love the stars the game creates, but things like this ruin it for me. Great podcast. Unless you are head and shoulders above the rest, be prepared to experience elements of what Henoc experienced. I was at a Premier League club's centre of excellence in the 90's and it was the same then. One of my friends who was given a 2 year YTS, was told within months of his first year, that he was going to be released. Like Hendoc, a new Youth Director was appointed, who didn't fancy him. The club said he could still train for a few months and use the time to arrange trials in order to find another club. And as I said, this was back in the 90's.

I feel for what this lad went through. A lot of people don't realise what types of characters youth football attracts. Some of the coaches I came across where questionable to say the least. A lot of the staff are ex pros who never really reached the heights of the game and have a lot of resentment. Some of them allow this to cloud their judgement. Also, if I was Hendoc, I would of questioned LFC when they said their plan was for him to play for Cosmos in the 2nd tier league in the US. I can't see how that would of helped him.

Your comment about the nature of many academy coaches, who were. questionable ex ex pros failing to make the grade, is spot on. Many of this ilk destroyed the emotional balance and belief of talented young players who might have come through with time age and maturity!

Well said mate, English/British coaches are mostly awful that is why you never get many of them in the highest level in football. Most other managers look for ability rather than favouritism or looking at a body type of the player. The fact that Henoc was been messed around with on his loan spell in Patrick Thissle can really mess with the mental side of a young player. I bet if Henoc was under Klopp he would have atlleast made a few apparences for the Liverpool first team, gone on loan and made a good career for himself.
