Those are insanely gorgeous -- I'd call them Dark Side of the Moon... :) Thank you for sharing your entire process and your diy pour cup!

Wow, these are gorgeous! I was showing my dad your two tarot-themed dice videos yesterday (he’s a tarot reader), and I saw the thumbnail of this video while scrolling through your channel for the videos. Had to pause for a second to admire how pretty these are, and I’m glad KZbin recommended this video, otherwise I would have forgotten to watch this. (It’s also incredibly impressive how you managed to pour all the colours into the tiny little sections in the cup with minimal spilling into other sections, hahah)

those gave me chills! the effect looks so nice qnd psychedelic! the music choice for the video was great but it would have been a perfect vid if the reveal where you take them out of the molds was in real time playback! such craftsmanship should be savored!

Definitely trying this! Wont be doing the 10 step polishing though haha! The zona papers and a 4 hour video essay to watch are just fine for me xD Absolutely goregous dice!! Would look cool with white instead of black too, maybe a colorshifting opalesque mica powder, so many options!

The fact that there's so many options in definitely the fun part! Best of luck to you :)

Those turned out very cool. I wonder what it would look like if the black resin was translucent though. Like would you see a spiraling rainbow all through the dice?
@alchemistsattic Жыл бұрын
I actually tried that recently! I should have made the colors a little more opaque, I think, but it did look really cool with all the rainbows spiraling in layers over themselves. If you want to see them, I took them out of the molds in the only short I have on my channel, lol.

I def have a problem with wanting to order all the pretty sparkly colors, lol. That said, I didn't start off with all these colorants and things- I got a lot of them over time and as projects called for them. Some of them I bought new online, some of them I got from friends and family who changed hobbies or didn't need them anymore, some I found secondhand online, some of them are spices and printer toner and other random things I scrounged up to try, and a few of them even other people bought because they wanted the specific material/color in a set of dice I was making them, and they told me to just hold onto the rest. I didn't just get everything overnight :) Even the pressure pot and molds- I didn't have those at first, I was just using cheap molds from Amazon and making bubbly dice for fun!

Wait, so what is the process where you put them in those blue tubs around 4:13?
@alchemistsattic Жыл бұрын
Those are vibrating tumblers I use to polish the dice. They have some sort of medium in them to vibrate against the sides of the dice, and then I add plastic polish to add that nice shine.
@joelwitherspoon930 Жыл бұрын
For how long do you tumble them?

@alchemistsattic Жыл бұрын
I let everything cure in a pressure pot, which makes any bubbles near invisible :)

How long did you wait for the resin to thicken before pouring it? Ive tried something similar and the colours mix together too much!
@alchemistsattic4 ай бұрын
I usually wait for a certain thickness of resin more than a certain time, but it's towards the end of my work time for sure. I want it to be honey-like in consistency when I pour. I haven't tried it myself, but I've heard of people making multiple dirty pour cups and then pouring them at different measured intervals (10 min, 20 min, 30 min, etc.) to see what timing works best for them.
@directionallychallenged97332 жыл бұрын
This is so cool. It looks like you polish them twice? Why's that? :)
@alchemistsattic2 жыл бұрын
Because I'm far to worried about how shiny they are, lol. The first tumbler works a lot faster in polishing them, but I like the shine I get from the second tumbler better, so I just use both.
@Galaxy.queen.dragonpupiter Жыл бұрын
What media do you use in your tumblers? And what's your tumbling process? The shine/quality is amazing! ❤
@alchemistsattic Жыл бұрын
@@Galaxy.queen.dragonpupiter The one that I've found gets the best shine is a hardwood cube medium (I get it from Kramer Industries online. It's a little spendy, but works well) with Meguiar's PlastX polish. The other tumbler in the video, that I think works faster but not quite as shiny, is a ceramic sphere medium with a water-based polish (I can't seem to find it right now). I've changed my process a bit since this video (I'll actually have a video out in a couple weeks that shows off my entire sanding and polishing process), but lets see... short version of how I'm currently doing things... I sand any lips, bumps, or flashing off the dice using the sanding wheel, then give them a pass of 1000, 2000, and 3000 grit 3M sandpaper on those faces, then I put them into the tumbler with the wood cubes and some of the PlastX polish. I run that for a couple days and then come back and check on things. They're usually not quite shiny enough for me then, so I add a little more polish and run it another couple days. That repeats for a couple weeks until they are like glass :)
@marcomoncada5125 Жыл бұрын
first of all, excellent video, very nice dice, but I see something that makes me noise, apparently you use ceramic media first and then natural media, I understand that natural media should go first and then ceramic, have you tried this?
@alchemistsattic Жыл бұрын
So I've switched back to just using the hardwood media since this video, because the ceramic just wasn't my cup of tea, but the reason I did it in the order I did here is because I felt like the hardwood gave me a better shine. I finished up with that so that I ended up with them as shiny as possible.
