I never did understand why he suddenly shows up in the Giant memory, especially since YOU had to go get the Ashen heart before you could travel into memories. Or are you seeing him as the giant remembers him? In which case, how does he recognize you?

KannaJuwl You bring up some good points, I honestly always thought it was just one of Benhart's ancestors since he talks about how the sword has been in his family for generations, but you're right about him recognizing you. I guess after speaking to Benhart in the Forest of Giants he "jumped the fissures between worlds... in Drangleic, the flow of time is convoluted... things shift and waver" as Sualden puts it. Perhaps he fell back in time to the Siege of Giants.

I figured he just got his own Ashen Mist from the Ancient Dragon. He helps you defeat the Giant Lord and then gets the Giant's Kinship, helps you defeat Nashandra, and maybe "links the fire in his own world" or however that whole deal is supposed to work.

Wow, such complex quest line! That's one thing I love about the Souls serie, if you do your first run completely blind you find cool stuff like NPC is here, then he moved there, then omg I can't find him, then your friends know something more and tells ya, then you tell him something he didn't know etcetera. It's hard, it's rewarding and it brings back memories on how the GOOD games used to be! Thanks for these videos, I did the run on my main blind but I'll be sure to do NG+ trying to achieve all quest lines and such :)

If ur playing scholar, then u can summon him for 3 fights (u can even use bonfire ascetics for the same boss 3 times if u want too) and then go to where the pursuer was and then clear his dialog and you’ll get the trophy and his shit

Great video (I know I’m very late 😂) You can also kill the sunken city dlc boss Elana with him and it counts as all 3 bosses. I had to beat Nashandra aswell (him alive) it worked for the set and achievement!

I know this is a really really late reply haha. But I ended up getting the trophy at the Drangleic castle when I exhausted his dialogue. I ended up going to the royal army campsite and killing Prowing Mangus boss there 3 times (used bonfire asthetic each time) and he survived all three times and when I got to Drangleic castle and talked to him I got his equipment and the trophy :D but if you don’t get care about the trophy/achievement you can just kill him.

I summoned benhart for magus, then mirror knight, then magus again, he moved just outside the memory of orro, spoke to him there and completed the quest, achievement popped. I’m playing scholar of the first sin though so maybe that has something to do with it? Either way im happy to have skipped so many steps.

weirdly enough i had talked to him in all locations following the storyline, and when arriving in forest of falling giant for his third appearance (before going into the memory of orro) he just gave me all his stuff and i got the achiveement (i had already did 3 bosses with him, using 1 bonfire ascetic to do 2 times prowling magus and one time looking glass knight), but he gave me the achievemet without needing to go into the memory level

Gotta say one thing, in my playthrough i didnt beat Nashandra my last beaten boss was the dragon from Aldias Keep. I didnt talked to Jugo when i restored the woman from the ruins. I just talked to him (he was still there) i beated The Prowling Magus 3 more times with the use of bonfire asthetics, and when i found him in Drangleic Castle he gave me his entire set. I dont know if its a bug.

Nawreua Thanks. It's bitter sweet. I'm happy for Miyazaki as a person because that means he's moving up in the world and he deserves it. Selfishly... I'm pissed he won't be taking directing roles on games anymore. I'm sad about it quite honestly, it's like depriving the world of a great artist in my eyes. So, do you HAVE to beat each boss with Benhart for his summon sign to show up for the next one? Cuz I exhausted his dialogue every time, but I only found his sign in the tent before Magus--never elsewhere. Granted, I wasn't aware of this questline at the time: I was just enchanted by the worldbuilding, and being as thorough as possible. It was only recently, as I was going to get the King's Ring, that I decided to try for the Platinum, and do a few NG+ for it, so I'll try Ben and Luca's quests then. But I still find it odd I never saw their summon signs, except the one time. I can confirm that I talked to both characters all the way for each encounter--except I missed Luca at Black Gultch. I couldn't even find Tark's summon sign for Najka, and I was actually LOOKING for that one! Is it cuz I'm playing offline (no PS+ subscription)? But then why did I find Ben's first summon sign, if that's the case? Is it because he didn't survive the Magus fight, so I couldn't summon him later? I can't even remember if he made it to Magus with me, let alone survived. Again: complete Dark Souls noob, here. Not only was I not aware of the quest/trophy, but I was still experimenting with game mechanics. I wasn't thinking, "I should clear out the enemies leading to the boss," I was thinking, "What does this do?" Still, I've learned a lot about how these games work and how to prepare for future challenges. I can't wait to play more Souls games! But first: I've got to finish DS2's ending, play the DLCs, and possibly platinum the game! Sorry for rambling a bit there. Still, if you have an answer to my question on this 10 year old video, I'd appreciate it! Essentially... What am I doing wrong?

Probably obvious to series veterans, but DS2 is my first Souls game, so... I hope you weren't far in your game when you restarted. Or perhaps you could just reload your save. It is noteworthy, though, that, if you plan on defeating the Prowling Magnus Boss 3 times you always have to defeat Freya again, too, before you can ascend the bonfire again. This means after each ascend you have deal with an even harder Freya, which could be a pain, when you're going for platinum with this character, since you'll get some spells in ng++. So, if you'll do this 3 times with Benhard: Difficulty levels of the area and Freya 1. = ng 2. = ng+ 3. = ng++ Then you beat the ng, you'll have to go to this area two aditional times to recieve all spells in ng++, which means that the area is ng++++ during the 'regular' ng++ and you'll have to defeat a ng++++ Feya to preceed in the regular ng++.

I did the quest up until I killed the Giant Lord, have not yet fought Nashandra and I went to Orros memory where Benhard is & he gave me everything. So it doesn't appear to be a MUST to fight Nashandra with him to get his stuff. Also, I'm not playing the SOTFS version.

philip brazendale That's correct, I say Moonlight Greatsword achievement/trophy in the description and only show the Bluemoon Greatsword. The achievement/trophy for completing Benhart's questline is called Moonlight Greatsword Achievement (Trophy on PS3). If you're wondering how to receive the real Moonlight Greatsword all you have to do it is receive the Old Paledrake Soul by defeating Freja (giant double-headed laser spider) in NG+ or with the use of a bonfire ascetic. The soul is then turned into the real Moonlight Greatsword.

Benhart REALLY must survive 3 boss encounters along with you. If you or he dies though it does not count as a failure for the entire questline. If he dies during a boss fight, just use a homeward bone and warp out to start over or die yourself to restart the boss encounter. Most simply put, to complete the quest you simply have to defeat 3 bosses with the two of you alive. It can be the same boss over and over, it can be 3 different bosses, it can be a boss you've died at 15 times... as long as when you do finally win, you're both alive during the victory.

I didn't summon him neither for the throne watchers, or the prowling magus fight, and i still got the trophy and gear after speaking to him in Majula, then in drangleic, then in the pursuer boss arena, and then in the memory. Must have glitched or something.

That's what I did. He must survive three fights in a row though. I recommend waiting until you are really powerful until doing it, probably end game when you're ready to take on the final boss. Also, you don't have to escort him there, just summon him and haul ass to the boss before he even spawns in. As long as he is technically summoned, it will count towards the trophy when you beat them, regardless if he helped or not.

Nah, I had to apply a green screen effect to make that sectioned shot and because the Bluemoon Greatsword is teal, which is a blue-green, the green screen effect removes green; making the sword basically just blue. In all the other shots beside that sectioned one where the screen is divided, it should look normal.

you get only the bluemoon greatsword from benhart.

I made some more research and turns out completing the quest summoning a ton of times and have him survive the experience actually grants you a moonlight greatsword which shoots magic.. meh
