Backsteps in DS1 have no i-frames, but infinite poise. Backsteps in ds2 have some i-frames. Backsteps in ds3 have nothing, they are purely a spacing tool.

I try not to rely too heavily on player summons, only summoning when a boss is especially difficult to do with the NPCs provided. The difference in damage between 66 strength and 40/40 str/dex on the dsga is so minimal. You get less than a 1% boost for roughly 5 extra levels. You'd get more from adding it into faith. Assuming the same level, you either lose 5 levels elsewhere to dump into dex, go up 5 levels, or if you want to go 40/35, it's the same damage as 66 str. It's honestly the same.

The quality build and the strength faith varient are very similar for the dsga yes. For an even amount of point investment they get the exact same damage. Example (40/40 str dex 717 ar, 40/40 str fth 721ar) as a knight class the str faith varient also costs 3 more levels. The difference being the strength faith varient gets less physical damage and more lightning damage, which usually ends up doing less damage per hit overall since most meta builds have good lightning defense. The 66 strength varient actually gets 17 less damage then the 40/40 build. Overall yes not a huge difference though, i was just surprised back when i learned it was a quality weapon as well.
