I heard Daughters of Ash's mod creator wanted to add it in but never did. Same with the sword of the 4 Kings.. buuuut Jar Eel was! A slower Artorias in pacing with spins and Dark Hand and explosive AoEs. Not polished but fun fight. Still no Kalameet and Artorias tho! Both he and the 4 Kings Sword are the most finished items of all the scrapped content which is why DoA's creator wanted to add it in

I think i can explain why Chester looks so simular, the "Prototype Chester" is (At least i think) the base color for chester. If you know Warhammer you usually paint you figures black as a base and then put the colors above that i think a simular thing happed here, what i mean by that is that chester was originally supposed to be ingame but didnt make it in time and then they just left this "Base" in the game and then later in the DLC they just continued his development and reworked pats of his clothing in the base game he is just grey and not black. Just to clarify this for the people who may be wondering why they ended up so simular

On the note of how the DLC came to be; I recall having seen an interview with Miyazaki a few years back about the DLC. Originally, it was meant to be a part of the base game. But the rest of the development team found the idea of the time travel plot to be silly and not something that really fit within Dark Souls. So the content was cut to work on other things (probably for the best considering how underbudgeted/underworked the third act of the game already is.) Following the release of the game and its massive critical reception and the demands from fans for DLC for a good year or so, the team decided that now would be as good a time as any to go and polish off that old 'stupid idea' they worked on once and actually add it to the game.

If I remember correctly, the whole DLC was planned to be in the vanilla game, but then became cut content due to the lack of time. So yeah, many things of AotA were yet in the game.

I'd be up for a remake, not remaster. If they made the map bigger with some interconnectivity as well as the hub world and put in the cut area then that would be great. Either that or Demon's Souls 2 with some of the areas reused.

Damn! That Bed of Chaos could be one of the most memorable bosses in the Souls series and I would love to fight it wearing pieces of the cut content Bear Set and Gough's. Also, the remastered only has some multiplayer issues. I guess no cut content as a surprise for old and new players.

Only problem is that even if it could be modded in, the bed arena is too small for it. I believe originally you were supposed to ride it around the back half of Izalith while fighting the king of Izalith on its back. The king later got used in ds3

Some of the DLC stuff was in the artbook that came with the collectors edition of the original PS3 and 360 release. I think it's pretty clear that they ran out of time and used the PC port as an opportunity to finish some content that was only half done.

I think I remember interviews with Miyazaki that the dlc was never a original plan. Only after the desire from consumers to have on PC did they decide that if they were going to rerelease on PC it would be good to expand.

Man this just makes me wish someone actually managed to make full fledged mods with different enemy placements, new items, areas and properly use the cut content and what-not for this game. Hell with the item randomiser mod, I would bloody kill for an enemy randomiser mod because stuff like that would really give these games that true "playing for the first time" feeling again. If only From were so open with keeping their games open for proper easy mod support but fat chance of that.

Not sure if it was answered or not but in a interview it was stated that the dlc area was supposed to be in the base game but was running out of time, so they stuck with what could be good for the ‘main’ story. The director even wanted the dlc to be free but it seems Sony wanted some money so if I remember right the dark souls dlc was only 5.99 or even 10.99 Canadian

Iirc it was actually Microsoft that wouldn’t let devs do free updates. That’s why TF2 on Xbox doesn’t have any of the updates from PC. Valve wanted to, but they weren’t allowed to unless they charged for it, so they decided not to.

2 year old comment but during the time of Chesters creation they were working on Bloodborne for the PS3. Chester was likely an easter egg or a small hint at Bloodborne. He acts like an NPC from Bloodborne and fights as aggressively as a Hunter, he also uses his crossbow as if it were a gun similar in the way the Hunters fight with ranged weapons.

Except in From's case the assets were not cut in order to sell a dlc later as they had no idea that Dark Souls would be as popular as it is. Unless of course you think all the unused/cut content/assets in Demon's Souls were also for a dlc as opposed to simply not having the time to finish the content.
