SO EXCITED to see this! Thank you Susan and Dr. Chiu! I am so grateful that you are taking the time to educate us. I’ve learned a lot from this series. I actually do wear SPF - my bad for leaving it out! BUT I didn’t wear it for years, unless I was going to the beach. This 3 step routine you’ve suggested is perfect for me and my lifestyle right now! I’ll totally splurge on a great vitamin C and work on keeping my skin hydrated. Thank you again! I love you both 🙏🏻❤️

Love this vid Susan as male who has just gotten rid of his Malasma this was very helpful to add some final steps to my current routine. To the people looking for a new vitamin c serum. I've been on the hunt looking for a replacement for the ordinary vitamin c serum/cream and have purchased almost every formula out there. The most effective in cream form has been Ultraceuticals 23% vitamin cream. This sits on the skin beautifully without any grainy texture or pilling issues now matter how much you layer your products over, while giving a firm glowy appearance to the skin with minimal irritation (I apply this after I've shaved without issue).

Would love a video about vitamin c. I’ve read that most of the clinical trials used pure ascorbic acid with a very low pH, which is not how it’s usually formulated. Also that it’s very hard to stabilise so it’s probably not working as effectively as in the trials.

So many of my customers come into my work wanting to get rid of hyperpigmentation and don't want to buy a sunscreen.they never want to listen to me. When I suggest a sunscreen. It's so common. Alot of my cliental are women of color come in and they don't want sunscreen, and older white women. However the skin care brand I work for we claim to be natural. And I feel like my clients think natrual, sunscreen isnt natrual. Which i have to pick and choose which customers I have to have the talk on natrual is a hard term to regulate. I also live in Washington State and we have high rates of skin cancer. Yet we are one of the most clueless states on sunscreen so many of my customers think a sunburn is the only kind of sun damage.

@@joerealestatem9054 krave beauty beat the sheild, I love Paula choice sunscreen, the ones I've tried from supergoop. Also i think Susan and the dermatogist would agree that there isn't much sciencetific evidence that sunscreens are toxic and if your worried about it than use a mineral or phyiscal sunscreen rather than a chemical sunscreen. But I also don't beleive that natural is always better. Sometimes natural products can be really harmful to the skin. If your using something that has lemon to brighten the skin. Your gonma risk sun damage even im winter months.

Pure L asorbic acid aka vitamin C, is cheap as dirt. Buy a container of the cosmetic grade powder for around $5 and add the appropriate amount to a affordable simple serum like a hyaluronic serum from The Ordinary. Just make sure you only mix up a week's worth at a time, as it is highly unstable once mixed with liquids and will degrade and oxidize.

I haven’t seen dermatologists that seem this caring and provide such in-depth yet clear explanations, usually they seem to want to just prescribe a topical or oral treatment and not have a holistic conversation. The ordinary vitamin c products are not paired with other antioxidants which it needs becuse antioxidants stabilize each other even tho they're not in a water formulation the packaging lets air enter frequently and vitamin c most likely to oxidize plus i tried them and they don't feel great on the skin I'd rather pay extra for something well formulated

Daher Drawshe you can pair your Vitamin C with The Ordinary Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3%. These together have been shown to increase the efficiency of Vitamin C. Also, the L-Ascorbic Acid powder isn’t susceptible to oxidation issues. Also Ethylated L-Ascorbic Acid is also less susceptible to oxidisation than other forms of Vitamin C.

Great routine for a beginner. I would add in Alpha Arbutin in conjunction with the Vitamin C in the AM for her hyperpigmentation as well. And def the Azelaic Acid in PM. And they forgot to add in the Lactic Acid in replace of the Glycolic Acid. I’m having great results using ethylated vitamin c and adding in l-ascorbic acid powder from the Ordinary! Not sure if I’m supposed to, but it’s working nicely!!

Some say that conclusion (that you can't use vitamin c and niacinamide together) was based on old data that has since been disproven. But many still say it's best to use them separately especially for those persons who get temporary redness as a result of the combination of the two chemicals.

Janice Hamilton It’s definitely old data, which is why we find it weird that it comes up so often now.

Kiehls has this Clearly Corrective line that helps with hyperpigmentation...it includes a wash, treatment water, spot corrector and a lotion....I've been using it for a few months to help with my melasma and I've had great results...it is a little pricey but it works

Wow watching her struggles with her skin makes me sad and grateful of my skin and I’m glad I started my skincare routine before I hit 30 I just hit 28 and started taking collagen 2014 and I’ve seen results from it. I will say this I know what it’s like to not be comfortable in your own skin

Hi Susan and Dr. Chiu I was wondering if you have any advice for a skin care routine for someone who works the grave yard shift, I’m a nurse and I try my very best to take of my skin. But I having fitting around to seeing a dermatologist to see what I can do best for my skin, while working nice. For example I’m curious...do I still wear sun screen?

Love this series! I get so excited whenever it pops up in my subscribtions :) I have a question; I've noticed that in every video you underline the importance of the SPF in the morning routine, but we all know that it only lasts for a limited amount of time. So I put it in the morning, I go to the office and by the lunch time it irs benefits are basically gone. How should I reapply during the day, given that I'm wearing make up on top of my SPF? Any tips? Also when we're at it - could you maybe make a video about what causes these little bumps on your skin - not really pimples and not the typical clogged pores that look like a black dot. On my best skin days I can have a smooth, even complexion but I always have these tiny little bumps here and there - does this mean that the products I'm using are clogging my pores?

Susan, i know you said you don't necessarily loooove The Ordinary, but you have recommended their products is the past. How would you feel about her using The Ordinary's L Ascorbic Acid Powder with a humenctant light using one of their hydrators or oils as a conductor. That way she'd get Vitamin C and moisture. I'm still learning but I have that powder and resveratrol/squalane serums, and I just wondered what you thought. Love y'all!

As an expert that she is, she is always learning, that's why she has the Dr. With her for matters that she is not sure about. Speaking specifically about this brand[Ordinary] a lot of expert vary their opinions because this is a brand that works with *acids*. All depends what works for you and what really need

Could you please look into the Kicks skincare line, especislly the vitamin c and its ingrefients? I think the serums are pretty affordable (if they are good ones) but I dont personally have enough knowledge to know if theyre worth the buy or not

Commenting on mixing the ordinarys niacinamide and their vit c 23% + HA 2%, I actually did this the other night. Let me tell you, they don’t mix! It stings and pills SO BAD. I don’t mind the mild tingling from the initial application from the ordinary’s vit c so that was a shock to me how much the mixture of the two burned, had to wipe everything off! I was also under the impression that mixing these two ingredients was ok and actually encouraged, but I stopped due to sensitivity and aesthetic purposes! Didn’t know the ordinary discourages this mixture!

I am using the Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F from the Ordinary, because I was terrified to use any of the other Vitamin C products from the Ordinary after many reviews saying it burns the skin or the application isn't nice. Been using it for 3 weeks and I really like it! It feels nice on the skin and smells nice and has no conflicts with the Niacinamide.

Is a moisturizer with Spf enough? I feel like a moisturizer and spf should be used. At least in my case I’m not into two products on one, I get the feeling that the spf is not enough just like in foundations but I could be mistaken

Thank both of you for a great awesome video! I personally don't struggle with Melasma but I like to learn and understand different skin issues to have general knowledge☺️ Susan please continue to educate because it is very much appreciated!!! 💕 Also random question but I wanted to ask about that BB cream you mentioned a while ago that you use? I believe you said it has SPF and some type of formulation that helps it match your skin tone? I want to use a BB cream mostly for the SPF and remembered you mentioned one a while back. Thanks in advance!

Niacinamide + vitamin C is only an issue when you formulate it in the same bottle & only in a super specific, unusual circumstances (info from chemist’s corner fourm, where cosmetic chemists gather to talk about formulating skin care)
