Dark Theories about Disney's Aladdin That Change Everything
Aladdin is one of most well known animated films to come out of the Disney Renaissance Era. The classic story of poor boy who finds a magic lamp and falls in love with a princess. But like most things, the internet has concocted some dark theories. Theories so dark that we had to make a video about them. #Aladdin #Disney #Theories

The best theory about this movie is that the entire story didn't happen, and it's just a lie made up by the merchant in the beginning to sell you a mediocre lamp

except for the "merchant" is actually The Genie which they reveal in the end of the third movie.
@Mithcoriel

Well 1001 Arabian Nights is all about stories within stories within stories. It's not uncommon for a character to tell another character a story, inside which another character appears, who tells another story. So it doesn't really matter if the merchant was lying; he's just the frame story for the next story. In his world it may be a lie, but inside the story he tells, it's true.

@@Mithcoriel That does not make any sense to me. So you are saying every fictional story is true because inside the story, its true to the characters? That's silly.
@jazzhynkel7867

@@bahabaha2228 that doesn't make any sense, the story is "real" to the characters, that's why characters "react" to what happens around them in a story. exp. Simba from the lion king crying when his dad dies. Lions don't fucking talk, but Simba's dad really did die.

And since he could see so far ahead, and he could use his powers even without a command. He could've set everything from the start, including creating the cave of wonders and know where to hide the info so the right person gets it. So it would, in 10k years, be Aladdin who gets the lamp.

@@master-a8450 I'd "forgive" him. Personally I don't think there is anything to forgive. He did what he had to do. Can he be blamed for wanting freedom? And if he knew I'd end up freeing him, then he knew I'll survive all that. So chances are I was never truly in danger. I wouldn't judge him or be bothered. Nor see it as he making a mistake. More like making an elaborate plan. To me, that's commendable.

My Theory: The Genie LITERALLY did turn Aladdin into a Prince. He altered reality to a point where Prince Ali is a real ruler of a real nation. Proof of this is when The Sultan meets Prince Ali, he seems to know about him and says, "Oh course, Prince Ali Ababwa, delighted to meet you."

Not a "dark" theory, per se, but my favourite theory is that when Aladdin wishes to be a prince, while Genie dresses him up as one, the actual magic doesn't affect Aladdin, but it instead affects his father by giving HIM the big break that allowed him to take control of the desert thieves... thus making him the "King of Thieves", and therefore making Aladdin the "Prince of Thieves"

@@andmos1001 Indeed, that's why people see Jafar's version so much more in-line with the mythos. That's also why I like the theory I mentioned... While not doing it purposely or maliciously, Genie's magic working in that way would keep it more to the mythos as well. "You wish to be a prince? Fine... I'll give you nothing and this man who's your father (even though you don't know him) everything instead!"

The future one is wrong, based on one line that's spoken in the film. Genie tells Aladdin that he'd never find another woman like Jasmine in a million years, then goes "Believe me -- I've looked." This would imply that certain things in the time line are fixed, and certain things are in flux. The Nicholson, Arnold, and Arsenio references (to name a few) are based on fixed points, and the Genie can see them. He could also see if Aladdin would meet another woman like Jasmine within one million years. He does not. This would mean that the post-apocalyptic future theory cannot work -- it's just Genie with mental (and physical) knowledge of future events, but not ALL events. Basically, the Genie is all wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey.

Also, the Genie could easily have a hard time telling just how much time's passing while he's in the lamp, so 10,000 years could just be a rounded off guess of what he thought was the case. It could be that he was only stuck in there for a few hundred years and just didn't realize it.

Nowadays perhaps, but in the past a princess often took her husband's title. For example Princess Mary, the sister of Henry VIII. She first married the King of France and when he died became Dowager Queen of France. Then later on she married the Duke of Suffolk. The Duke was not known as a Prince than. In fact the dowager Queen of France was often referred to as the Duchess of Suffolk. If I remember correctly, even the wives of princes, who did not have an official title with prince in it, like the Prince of Wales often were not considered Princesses, if they were not born with the title. They were instead called the duchess of York for example.

@@hekate5561 it depends tho, sometimes the man took the title (level) of the wife, other times the woman took the title (level) of the husband, there are many times princes or dukes/etc became kings/emperors because they married the wife or daughter of the last one, the general rule of thumb is unless they are the heir they take the title of the lower rank. so if the princess is the heir she will be the princess even after marriage and her husband will get the title prince, but if she is not the heir she downgrades to his title level (say duke/dutchess), same with princes. the wife of the prince of wales is the princess of wales (unless she is the second+ wife, hence Dianna was the princess of wales but Camilla is the Duchess of Cornwall ), this has been tradition since atleast 1246. before the english took the title for their heirs in the 1300s

@@matthiuskoenig3378 That is true. But as far as I know, even if the princess is heir in most regions that still didn't make her spouse prince, if she was not the official heir. To put it bluntly, their fathers still hoped that there would be a son, so a princess' spouse only became royalty, if he was not before marriage, when she became Queen. Of course since the Sultan did not seem inclined to remarry and only had this one child, Jasmine could have been the official heir.

Here is a theory I just came up with to explain the pop culture references. We established that it is actually the genie telling the story, as it's Robin Williams voicing the narrator in the beginning. It has been hypothesized that he skewed his story to make himself look like the good guy, but I think he skewed it in a different way. What is not told is how long ago the story took place. What if that beginning sequence took place in modern times, and the genie inserted the jokes and pop culture references in his story just for his modern audience? What if his friends have all been dead for centuries and he just tells it a little different every time he tells the story of the man who freed him? He obviously has the personality of a class clown/entertainer/comedian, so what if he just catered his story for us for the lolz?

Aladdin is certainly not the only Disney movie to reference things (from any time period) that, while not relevant to the characters or plot of the movie, are understandable to those watching it. I think what he actually meant to say was that Jafar would've been a good ruler, but he's not really a good person per se. Sure there is poverty, but it's not like Acraba is a total wasteland. Politicians sometimes talk about a "triad" of influence. *Talented people* can work harder and better than other people. *Wealth* is the ability to buy what you don't have. *Power* is the ability to convince or compel other people to use their talent and their wealth FOR you without having to directly repay them. Unlike the other 2, power is extremely short-term and has a clear expiration date. However, it's by far the strongest of the 3. Power constantly has to be renewed if you want to convince a lot of people to vote for you or win a war or become extremely wealthy or take power away from other powerful people. That's just how the world works. What makes someone a villain is how far they compromise their morals in order to get that power. Which is part of the reason why every good villain sees themselves as either the REAL hero or they just don't CARE about right and wrong.

So if you operated under the idea that our human history went back further and we suffered a cataclysm that reset us back to primitive times then Aladdin's time period being historically accurate to our current belief's past yet also post apocalyptic could make the theory valid. But that's a lot of hoops to jump through and in the end doesn't make the story anymore interesting.. unless you're linking it to Atlantis and making one of those Pixar Timeline theories.

The post apocalyptic thing sounds to me mostly like shortsighted viewers not realizing there's more than one "3rd century". Hell, who says they even have the same calendar as us? 3rd century to them could mean 20th century to us. Besides, it's just jokes. Even IF you take them as canon, it could be a hyperbole on Genie's part saying "10000 years"

@@roleplayingwithidiots7455 we know for sure the first rule is real, Jafar can't kill anyone after being made a genie. The second (love) has to also be real, when Aladdin starts talking about Jasmine genie reminds him of the rule, when Jafar wishes for Jasmine to love him genie starts his rules shtick instead of granting the wish. Unless we assume the genie is lying about the third rule ( I can't find any example of him lying) the third rule has to be real too. The main thing to remember is that the genie is a slave, he has to grant whatever wish is given to him. It could also be a warning that if the wish is made it won't be what the wisher thinks, he changes form to look like a zombie when he says it, it's possible he can reanimate a corpse but not bring back the person who used to occupy it.

OK - 1) the time frame of the story is probably around 10,000 -30,000 BC (as that is the estimated time when the Sphinx was constructed). See the water-erosion theory for more. During the ride on the carpet around the world, there was a person who was working on the nose of the Sphinx (he knocked it off). 2) Jafar did know the wishes he wanted. As soon as he got the lamp, we wanted to be Sultan ~and~ a sorcerer. So, he had all the money and power he wanted. 3) The modern pop-culture references were there because of the person who played the Genie: Robin Williams. He was a comedian who improvised and imitated quite a bit. Just look at some of his work prior to doing the voice of Aladdin.

(1)Except that the (likely specious considering that sand weathering creates the same patterns and the erosion is predominantly found on the west enclosure wall, making wind erosion far more likely) theory you specifically cite clearly dates the Sphinx between 5,000-6,000 BC. Before telling us to research something, make sure you've clarified your information. (2)You're spot on with number two, and I wondered why that theory exists. (3)It doesn't matter why the pop culture references exist. They're in the universe and must be explained.

@@pianotm ")Except that the (likely specious considering that sand weathering creates the same patterns and the erosion " - Evidently, you did not do the basic YT or Google search. You support a "theory" that is riddled with inaccuracies, falsehoods and misinformation. While it may be advanced to the masses as "Truth", Physical Evidence suggests otherwise. The Sphinx has water erosion at the bottom of it - not sand. The Erosion patterns for Sand are different. Water leaves structures with a smooth, rounded appearance. Sand creates a sharp and more razor-like appearance. This was verified by the geologist (Ph.D) Robert Schoch. The discovery itself was by Anthony West a few decades ago. It is rejected by the mainstream because it "flies in the face" of the Theory of Evolution and the common misconception that Egypt (and the world in general) is 6000 years old. For the Sphinx, the water erosion took place when the Sahara was not a desert. Robert Schoch places the creation of the Sphinx closer to 10,000 BC. Anthony West says that it was built "during the Age of Leo" (it does look like a lion) which would place it closer to 30,000 BC. FYI, we were in the age of Pisces and are now transitioning to the Age of Aquarius. When I went to Egypt, they were in the process of repairing (i.e. covering up) the evidence; however, I am sure you can find the documentary in KZbin (narrated by Charleton Heston - I believe).

True, though I'd like to point out that that wish is effectively undone after Jaffar wishes to be made into the most powerful sorcerer in the world, whereupon he uses said sorcery to undo the genie's work on Aladdin's first wish to be made into a prince; this is why he couldn't technically marry Jasmine at the end of the movie, were it not for the Sultan to change the law in the end.

@@zettovii1367 The law required him to have already been a prince beforehand, though; i.e. being a prince was a *_prerequisite_* to be eligible for marriage with Jasmine in the first place. shows you how easily a villain can be turned into a hero and vice versa through spin. we should probably be careful in real life not to be quick to judge and to be compassionate towards others because we may be the bad guy if we get too nasty and full of angry resolve. my own basic meter is based on the question, "am i okay right now? is my health and life something i'm basically enduring without excessive suffering?" then i try to get thankful and think twice about hating those who may have a harder time for whatever reason. for many, life is a true nightmare for reasons that may not be readily apparent to the rest of us.

The theories presented in this video aren't all that well though out, but you should never discourage someone from applying their brain to something if the work merits it, and there are plenty of animated works out there that merit deeper thinking.

There's three types of genies: Ones that can grant any wish, regardless of consequences, Ones that can't interfere with certain elements of destiny, and ones that you have to trap to get a wish at all (and often are basically a monkey's paw)... The Genie in Aladdin is the second type. So was Jafar, when he became one. While it is debatable whether or not Genie could bring back the dead under certain exemptions, he did use the word "can't," and not "won't," meaning that bringing them back would have to not interfere with something more omnipotent than he is, and he does it under protest when he can't refuse the request. Simple as that.

In regards to the theory that the story takes place in the far future, genie's comment about the 3rd century is likely just a throw away line that the screenwriters didn't give any real weight to; hell maybe the genie was just joking around. And as for him knowing all about modern pop culture, the genie is extremely powerful and likely has the ability to time travel. He probably traveled to numerous historical eras prior to being imprisoned in the cave and just liked the 20th century most of all.

Many of those theories are good, especially when you consider that the Genie still has his powers when freed. A good theory I've heard is that the Genie was either a criminal/Mental person with abilities (like a god) who was imprisoned in a lamp for all eternity. As a prisoner of course you can understand why someone would therefore do anything to be free, after all this is a person who can do almost anything up to and including control the universe (as per Jafar's final words) and yet as you pointed out he manipulated the sob story about being confined in something that shouldn't have been a problem to reside in. So in essence the lamp is like Pandora's box only that they released a plague that is the genie AND gave him freedom, not smart. In other words the Genie could be a primordial god like Tiamat or something like that which would account for the length of time imprisoned

I watched your Hercules video too, and you make the theory that ezma from the emperors new groove could be an aged meg from Hercules. I believe that it could be true and that I know who meg/ezmas father is. Hades needed a potion made to turn a god mortal. In theory he got a mighty wizard or magician to create it. I believe this was jafar from Aladdin. And promised in return for the potion, that he could make any of jafars dreams come true. AKA hades told jafar about the lamp and how to acquire it. This would explain why jafar kind of made these unplanned wishes. Instead of knowing exactly what he wanted. Plus it would explain ezmas father theory because all we know is he was a scientist/ magician. Exactly like jafar, who is a sorcerer who is also mechanically inclined like a scientist. It may not be true but there are too many coincidences that I see that makes me believe that it could be true
