21:52 That would be me 🤭 Thanks for covering the Cesium-san incident. I stumbled upon this when I was watching a compilation of Japanese TV clips of TV programs or networks having to apologize for certain mistakes. (A far more innocuous one in that video was NHK apologizing for airing two episodes of a soap opera in the wrong order.) Tokai TV is a Fuji TV station in Nagoya, and P-CAN TV is a local program so technically it was only seen in Nagoya and surrounding cities, but word (and screengrabs/recording of the incident) got around the Japanese internet so fast that farmers in Iwate caught wind of it the next day and demanded an apology. As expected, it became national news so the station conducted an internal investigation and around a month after, they aired a one-hour, *commercial-free* TV special explaining what happened (and apologizing profusely throughout). (I don't speak Japanese so I mostly relied on Google Translate and the CC auto-translate feature for these details. Apologies in advance if I misinterpret some details.) Indeed, the graphics they showed was a placeholder graphic that was supposed to be used only during rehersals. (Apparently, it was industry practice in Japanese TV until then to put very obscene or offending text in placeholder graphics as a way to let the staff know that what's shown on screen is a rehersal and not a live broadcast.) The guy who created the placeholder graphic said that since the Fukushima nuclear disaster was still fresh in his mind back then, that's what he put in thinking that no one else outside the station will see it. Basically, there was a failure to double-check at almost every point in the production hierarchy. Someone working for the show reminded another (I forgot their positions) to make sure not to include the placeholder in the files for the actual broadcast, replied something like, "Sure, sure" but didn't really get around to doing it. Same thing happened with another staff member... You get the idea. On the day of the broadcast itself, the person in charge of the graphics inadvertently loaded the placeholder in the queue, not paying attention to what's actually in it. While it was up on air, the executive producer was busy talking to another producer about the next segment in the show. And apparently, no one else in the control room (and even in the studio!) was paying attention which was why it was on screen for 23 WHOLE SECONDS. When the EP did notice it, he had a back and forth with the graphics person before he hurriedly switched to the studio camera feed. And where was the CEO of the station when this was all happening? He was out golfing 🤦🏽♂️ He only learned about it when he got a call on his cellphone a little while after. Naturally, the station was flooded with calls and emails of angry viewers. The CEO personally apologized to the mayor of Nagoya, the governor of Iwate, the head of the rice famers sssociation in Iwate... It was rough. Because of this incident, Tokai TV holds an internal refresher training for its staff every August 4 to remind them of the importance of broadcasting ethics, and what carelessness and lack of forethought can cause. They also launched goodwill initiatives to help Iwate and the rest of the Tohoku region to recover from the March 2011 disaster.

@jamm6_5146 ай бұрын
@@johngeronimo8821pretty sure it relates to similar processes held by several different industries! like how in games you have striking or absurd graphics used to call the attention of devs so they don't mistakenly leave the object untextured- it was likely assumed that having such offensive and absurd messages in the card would be enough to alert people that it was a placeholder, whilst it also looked realistic enough that could be used in a rehearsal. what we saw here is that it wasn't enough @_@

The contaminated rice thing is both not surprising but also very surprising. Stuff like this happens all the time, where placeholder text gets left so people usually write something super weird so its obvious that its a placeholder. i had some former coworkers i hated, basically in my industry it operates off the apprenticeship system of job training and we have to log their hours, fill out a government form, get a signature from someone with a special license (me) and have that signature notarized so its all a pain in the ass. A few guys quit or got fired so they all got their forms, lost them, then claimed i never gave them their forms. I gave them each a new form keeping in mind each of them is costing me about a half hour or so of time i dont get paid for, and mail them each their forms costing me postage. A couple of them lost their forms again and one idiot needed a FOURTH fuckmothering form, each time blaming me or the post office, and one of them needed a 3rd form because he literally just scribbled out the hours i wrote and then wrote a larger number next to it so he could make it look like he was working way more hours then he did and got caught because it was wildly different handwriting and a different colored pen so he just tried to casually get me audited so he could forge a government document. I nearly sent a few of them forms with placeholder names like "John Dickhead" and "Asshole Thief"

The Cesium-san incident kind of reminds me of that American news broadcast about a plane crash where someone faked the pilot's names. Seems like, in a similar but slightly different vein, it was someone's dark humor. In this case though, I could see it being either deliberate or completely unintentional that it ended up on air.

16:13 That sounds like a spectrogram image to me. If you download the file and run it through a program like Audacity (iirc, it's been years since I played with these), the sound waves will make an image.

The suspicious rice thing makes me so upset. I did "volunteer work" in Fukushima prefecture in 2012 and my group's entire job was to go to a farming community that had been affected by similar rumors after the reactor meltdown. I also remember there being videos of refugees going to other prefectures being treated like they were irradiated and dangerous. We had exchange students from completely different areas being treated the same way by a student's ignorant grandparents. It was all so fucked up. I'm surprised I never heard about the news broadcast.

That’s horrific. I truly hope that everyone in that region was able to heal the best they could from so much tragedy and stigma.
@meadowsweet55079 ай бұрын
@@SakuraStardust I hope so, too. I will say, though, I was able to see first hand how resilient so many Japanese people are. Everyone I met was kind and very determined to overcome the tragedies they had been through. It was very inspiring for me to witness at just 18 years old. Many memories I cherish from that time. I'm confident they have all come a very long way from where they were over 10 years ago, and I know they did it together.

Great video, I have seen some of those before, but just on surface level. On that note, I was quite surprised to see ATOLS here, so that was funny. Also, what's up with that frame going from 35:22 to 35:23 right after recommending sourcebrew's channel?

The face in the “lost broken face commercial” is 100% pablo picasso. The original photo is on google, it’s a photo of him sitting cross-legged/criss-cross applesauce in a rocking chair (not sure which term is the correct one, english isn’t my first language)

You have a great voice. You sound kinda like the exact in between of a 2010s anime character and a news caster if that makes any sense.

The c u r s e d ps2 game, about Chunsoft taking over the world sounds like a sarcastic shitpost from a dev who's most likely overworked and stressed out and showed the joke dialog to his coworkers and they probably had a laugh and put it in as an easter egg for data miners / pirates. Game Devs have been known to put rants into their code. Gurularry did a video on a few rants.. including one w hich was a plea to be dominated by a well endowed dominatrix, and a threat to pirates who would attempt to steal their IP.

14:24 イルカの夢 (iruka no yume) literally translates to "dolphin dream" in English. This phrase is often used to describe something that is unrealistic or unattainable, similar to the English phrase "a pipe dream."

The green ghost photo looks to me like a prank. Someone hiding under the basin then popping out and making spooky noises, scaring the other person. Obviously the prank was very effective. And yes, those doors on the right do look like bathroom stalls. There is a gap at the top where the stall doors end. Dolphin dreams reminds me of the absolute chaos that is Haachama cooking. Nothing cursed there. Just someone having fun doing some spooky and weird stuff.

As a Zero Escape fan honestly Chunsoft putting subliminal messages in their games would explain a lot tho. I've never met a member of this fandom who's normal about these games. Also how tf else could Zero Time Dilemma have gotten such high critic scores

Oh gosh, what would be terrifying about “Nice day, Fine day” is if the owner/person making updates on the original webpage or a accurate copy changes the page to where you wouldn’t see the torrii gate if you scrolled down occasionally… I’d start crying on the spot as I’m a pretty superstitious person.
