About me:
My name is Anthony Chisnall. I'm a musician & songwriter.
My channel is these things:
1. A place to share my music - both songs and instrumental pieces. Much of the music I write features in...
2. Tutorial videos about music composition and production
3. An outlet for me to discuss all things musical - including technical break-downs of software and tools that I use, as well as more wide-ranging discussions of topics that interest me.
I play the guitar (electric, acoustic, and bass), and record all of my own synth-based sounds myself too, but I can't sing very well (huge understatement!), and so my wife, Pauline, who has a lovely singing voice, has come to my rescue. You'll hear her on all of my songs.
All of my music is written in Steinberg's Cubase (currently Cubase 13).
I try very hard to make my videos PRACTICAL and no-nonsense - if I don't use a feature, I'm not going to waste your time trying to sound like an expert on it! This is the stuff I use day-to-day, so I think that's also what you'd like to hear me talking about.

Awesome, i love that you've got a solid trance kind of backdrop with so much sonic diversity layered all the way through. It's like taking a journey.

Loved it and I think it would be good for the end credits of a science fiction film where people land on an alien planet where there's a horrible alien that bites people and it breathes fire and it can see in the dark and it can change shape so it can hide in the wardrobe but it has a fatal flaw in that it's terrified of chives and ...... I'm probably overthinking this.

No, that's pretty much what I was aiming for ;) Particularly the chives. Fluffy purple globes of horror.

Wow, super! By chance, does Arturia Modular V emulate the model III? Or is it the 55? I'm totally embarrassed to admit that I have not a single modular synth. Every synthesist worth their salt, pepper, vinegar and other condiments must own at least one, but I was unimpressed by a few I evaluated. They just didn't sound exactly right, sort of too good, ~as they don't constantly lose tuning with changes in room temp or simply when they're not in the mood, don't hiss, and don't buzz because one could never get rid of all ground loops anyway.~ I once read a paper on authentic modelling of imperfections in _capacitors and resistors,_ no less, so I suspect there are some efficiency tradeoffs in the DSP models. There must be an awful lot of passive components in a full modular Moog, methinks... Anthony, if you don't mind another question, have you ever had a chance to compare Halion 7 to Falcon 3? They are quite similar in their overall architecture, but Falcon 3 seems to have a larger oscillator variety, although they don't intersect. Also, Hal is more "mathematical" while Falcon is more "musical" in the control sense. Falcon's standard presets have more variety; they are well-designed sounds, and many are synthesized, while Halion content library is more sample-oriented, and I'm not very much into samples. It's not inexpensive, and I'm kinda torn, should I get it or Halion 7 is good enough already. If you have evaluated or own it, what's your impression? My gripe with Halion is that it's bug-infested to the brim. It reliably crashes on my main machine if I press any of those little "add effect", "add MIDI modifier", "add bus" or other button in the program tree's toolbar; I trained myself to use the right-click menu for that. It also crashes if I click on the down arrow in any insert slot in the mixer. Or just crashes, albeit rarely. The same happens in standalone-only mode on my notebook, but not in Cubase. There are too many hardware differences between the notebook and the desktop, especially in the GPU system, although both use an NVIDIA GPUs, if I can trust Windows on the notebook, so I cannot blame anything specific that I could try to reconfigure for this annoyance. Steinberg support is infamous for its mostly absence, but people complain of UVI support on forums, too. I managed to crash Falcon only once. I'm also missing (in Halion) a possibility to control bus effects from MIDI effects, envelopes, or, generally, any other layer's modulation sources, except by losing one QC of 8 for that-they can be used to both control knobs in effects and be modulation destinations of a layer. But I haven't yet figured out if Falcon 3 allows that, or what limitations it has. The UI is not stellar in both, but Halion is significantly better. Embarrassingly, Falcon 3 has the on-screen keyboard in a single editing tab, the main macro page! Cubase's on-screen keyboard helps, but it steals a lot of single-key shortcuts if it's always on top, and I often use it when designing sounds.

It's a hybrid, but based largely on the System 55 I believe. Good grief, I'm far too cowardly to think of buying a real modular system! I'll take the digital compromise thank you! Having said that, I love Arturia's methodology - they use something called 'True Analog Emulation' to get as close as possible to the unattainable perfection of analog, and it sounds great to my ears. Sadly I don't own Falcon 3. I had to draw a line somewhere, and that fell on the wrong side of it. I'm not saying it'll never happen, but I still have a huge backlog of stuff I already own that I haven't fully explored. Sorry to hear about all your Halion woes - maybe I've been very lucky but it's rock solid for me. Your observations about Steinberg support are not untrue...
