This tutorial will cover how to make NPCs use different idles to perform actions. This will give them a more realistic look as they will be performing day to day actions rather than sitting around eating all day long. I will also be making a new AI package tutorial to help tie in with this video. You can check out the new one when it's up or take a look at my older package tutorials.

OMG, The weirdest thing just happened. I was listening to the oblivion soundtrack, something I had not done before. I had your video opened in one tab then I clicked on the tab, in that same second, the oblivion soundtrack played the next song that you use in your intros, so I was confused, I tried pausing your video but that just made it play when it didn't before. Then I realized that the sound came from the soundtrack I had playing in the background. What is the chance of that? 1 out of 26 tracks with a total duration of 59 minutes, that exact song plays when I click the tab containing this video. Nuts.

Took me waaaay too long to figure out you need Navmesh in order to make NPCs walk through your testinghall. Maybe someone else can use this info

Hey there. I wanted my NPC to just do one task and only this one, so I set a linked reference from my NPC to the idle marker. But when I run the game my NPC just stands there doing nothing no matter how long I wait form him to do the assigned task. The patrol data is set to 0. And when I check the idle marker the ownership is set to the NPC. What am I doing wrong?

All your tutorials have been a big help. One small question if I might. I have an NPC on a schedule and one part will not work for me. From midnight to 8am she is sleeping in the cellar of the Winking Skeever, 8am-9am she is suppose to be eating on the top floor of the Winking Skeever, 10am-4pm she is working at the Solitude blacksmith (both inside and out), 8:30pm-10:30pm she is walking Solitude. My problem is when she gets to her chair for breakfast she sits but never eats. Many of the other NPC's in the Winking Skeever have the sitting and eating animation. I have her assigned as owner of the chair. Do I need to do anything with the food criteria to get the eating animation? Thank you

How do you create a generic npc? I’m sick of all the same faces on guards and bandits, and I have a few mods but I’d like to add new templates for new generic npc’s, thanks for the video and I’d be thankful if you could help.

Why are my npc's disappearing when I place an idle marker in the room or give them an AI package? Other NPC's will still appear in the cell if they're not in the same room as the idle marker. Chairs, etc., work fine, but blue I markers seem bugged. Has anyone ever had this problem?

Thanks for the video on Idles very interesting! I have a question if you don't mind me asking? Can anyone answer this if they know how. How do you make dialogue only appear in specific locations for say a follower. Like I want the dialogue to disappear and only show up say in Whiterun. I thought all I'd have to do was put the character Getisid and Getiscurrentloc-Whiterun.. doesn't seem to work. Dialogue is showing up everywhere still. I want to be able to ask my follower questions about specific places while at them. I got idles working but doing this is not...I'm assuming there needs to be different conditions added.

Hello Darkfox, your videos have been very helpful and I had a question I cant seem to get answered. If I wanted to use one of Umpas modders resources (HKX Dance files) for a specific NPC at a specific place on a package schedule, How would I install the .HKX file, so that I could use the animation with a marker? (So that it will appear in the drop down when creating a custom marker) Thanks in advance, especially for the videos.

do you have any idea how to let followers go into sandbox mode when they enter a certain cell? I'm using the Ultimate Follower Overhaul mod and have made a basement for breezehome with space for multiple followers so i can easy get to them. I have it all set up and the navmeshing worked out but when i tell em to go home (after i told em that is their new home) they just stand there and do nothing. I already set the cell as owned by playerfaction but i can't figure out how to let them idle so they don't just stand there as chickens ,_,

Hi darkfox! I was wondering if you could help with making a room available in a custom house for a child and showing us ( or me) how to use the markers to mark beds, chests and the childs and how to use their idles and provide what they need for you to move them in- thanks >3

There are mods on the Nexus which allow you to have your custom home support Hearthfire children, but I've never done this myself before I'm afraid.

Someone could tell me if it's possible to make an event with an idle, with sexlab animations. example event human and human or something else. Can I add a sexlab animation directly to CK to add it to the event idle? I try to make a small personal project, as I am a noob and I have trouble with the English language and CK. thank you for answering me, I'm lost, I have nice looking videos I can not find exactly how I can start this event with these animations.

Any way to make followers use these markers so they interact with the world? I'd like my follower to do more than just stand behind me as I roam my tower.

Probably going to be a matter of AI packages I imagine. Serana seems to love sandboxing while you're talking to people or standing still, investigate and see what package she has compared to your follower

Follower AI package is really basic basically follow Player between X and Y distance and stop when achieved. If you want them to do more you'll have to create a custom package that lets them sandbox when not doing the previous
