@lubo22605 жыл бұрын
Hey man! Thank you! All controls are flat. When it comes to bass sounds the instrument itself plays the biggest role in my opinion. This Warwick has a ton of midrange and high frequencies - way more than a jazz bass for example. Depending on your setup you could try boosting around 700hz and 4khz. Maybe even take out some 250hz. It's always advisable to listen to the bass in the context of band/mix to be able accurately judge the right amount of eq. I have to do some pretty drastic eq moves on my other basses too, so have fun with it. Hope this helps

Hi, I have a question and I hope you'll read it. The new B7K ultra v2 has an inbuilt speaker simulation. According to the demo on the darkglass channel, the speaker simulation improves the sound of the D.I. signal massively. In this video you tested the "old" version which doesn't have a speaker simulation (right?). If the speaker simulation is so necessary for the D.I. signal, why does your D.I. signal sound so good in this video without it?
@lubo22606 жыл бұрын
Hi there, yes you're correct I'm playing the 1st version here. Well as far as I'm aware the new version works with impulse responses. This is an awesome option because it basically makes the D.I. Out sound like a miced up cabinet. Mixing wise it's just easier to glue the bass with the rest of the band this way. I'm just used to getting my sounds without this feature but since you can turn it on and off it just adds to the versatility.
@scot8574 жыл бұрын
Lubo which impulse do you use here ..thanks

So i'm a bass player just starting to get into recording with Logic Pro and using a DAW. My son is a drummer and writes his own music and he provides me his tracks and I'm trying to lay down the complimentary bass track. How do you get such a full rich sound, even undistorted are you patching in directly to something so as to record, patching directly into your computer, or miking an amp? We play a lot of Karnivool type music and I am really looking for the Jon Stockman sound. Have the Alpha Omega Ultra on order and when it comes out I want to be ready to plug and play. What are your recommendations for recording bass, with high fidelity, using a DAW. Thank you for your time, your awesome videos and your expertise. I look forward to hearing from you.
@lubo22606 жыл бұрын
Robert Hathaway Thanks for the compliment! It's awesome that you're doing music with your son. Well I use the DI Out of the darkglass pedals straight into my DAW, no amps. Every bass is different so I would suggest using good studio headphones so you can clearly hear how the EQ affects the tone. The high end and midrange frequencies are your best friends if you want to cut through the mix. But the AO is a perfect choice for that. Once the track is recorded you can try to experiment with light compression in your daw, I'll upload a video on this topic in the following days.
@roberthathaway6 жыл бұрын
Lubo Thanks for the response. Do you use near field studio monitors in your room? And if so what Brand and model do you like?
@lubo22606 жыл бұрын
Robert Hathaway Yeah I can totally recommend the yamaha hs series. But try dialing in bass tones with headphones first since it's way easier to judge the low end content of the signal.

@lubo22606 жыл бұрын
PietroRumenta Hi there, as far as I know the ultra version has more frequency options and the ability to turn the distortion off while still keeping the EQ activated. So switching between clean and distortion is very consistent. I think the updated version even allows to load IRs.

What would you say is the benefit of the B7K Ultra over the Alpha Omega Ultra?
@lubo22606 жыл бұрын
Stephen Glover The only thing that comes to mind is the 2 drive circuits in the AOU but other than that it's more about which sound you prefer. They both sound very different.
@stephenglover83046 жыл бұрын
Lubo thanks for the reply. Difficult question, or rather maybe a stupid question... How would you describe and compare the tonal qualities of the two pedals? Im not sure that the KZbin videos (as good as yours and Patrick Hunter's are) really allow you evaluate. Can you attribute either to be more effective in a specific genre or style of music. Im from Cape Town and have no opportunity to test either as they are as scarce as common sense, so ive got to roll the dice and then order blind from Thomann. Im running a Warwick $$ into a UK made Ashdown ABM. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks.
@lubo22606 жыл бұрын
Hey I completely understand your situation. Let me give you my thoughts: The B7K is awesome for anything highgain related - we're talking any genre of metal here. The sound is very clear and agressive. The voicing of the AO is unique because of it's midrange. Compared to the B7K it sounds like a narrower band of frequencies are being distorted, which results in a very punchy and grunting tone with a smoother top end. I also found that I prefer the AO for slight distorted or cruchier sounds. The omega side is almost approaching fuzz territory which is awesome for a bit of ranging filth, which I tend to enjoy quite a bit. So in terms of versatility the AO Ultra is very hard to beat. Hope this helps.
@stephenglover83046 жыл бұрын

Hi man, quick question. Which frequencies do u boost/cut to get your bass tone to sound so good? I’ve only just started playing with a band and my tone never seems to sit so well in the mix or fit with my guitarist. Thanks
@JoeJoel7 жыл бұрын
personally, i find that cutting through a mix requires lots of mid action. Lubo cuts his low mids for some reason and I don't think that would work very well to get his instrument heard in live gigs or in the studio.
@lubo22607 жыл бұрын
Dominic Coleman Hey dude, first of all thanks! It's all a matter of experimentation. The guitar should leave some space in the lower register. And you could try boosting the midrange somewhere between 500 Hz - 750 Hz. Keeping your moves simple is always a good idea I think. Hope this helps and let me know how that works for you.
@lubo22607 жыл бұрын
shadowtroop121 Hey man, I completely respect your opinion. I just used the bass and the pedal to dial in tones that work for me personally. It sure doesn't have to work for everyone. Life would be pretty boring that way.
@JoeJoel7 жыл бұрын
For sure. The low mids are probably the least pleasant sounding part of a bass tone for me and probably for you too, but I decided to stop ignoring them a few years ago when I started playing in acts with more and more dense sound/instrumentation. When you have room in a soundscape, trebles and high mids are great to boost IMO
