Part Tres and our final installment to the Ultimate Beginners Guide to Rowing! Today we're taking all that we've learned and putting it together. We're talking about just how much the recovery means and putting the stroke together, piece by piece: recovery, catch, drive release. This is your mechanical guide to this Concept2, to a water rower, to a CP3, to whatever indoor machine you're working on.
We're going to start today's drill in the release position, arms away.
Begin to close the hips, rocking them forward, bend the knees and get into the catch position, drive, release the handle, then pause.
Think: nice, succinct, relaxed, recovery. Take time there and make sure you're in good position.
Take 50 strokes with this pause. That's right, 5--0 strokes with the pause. The more time you spend with positions and the less time you spend trying to rush through the stroke, the more comfortable you will become. You'll become more powerful with the movement and your body will adapt to it better. Focus on those mechanics!
Once you've done those 50 strokes, now you get to release the pause and blend the full movement together. We hope you've enjoyed the series! Would love to hear your feedback.

Great video. Could you do one where you explain the correct breathing tohrough the strokes?? Specially when rowing intensively. Tks a lot mate, great channel!!!

I'd love if you do a video on exercises we can do outside of rowing, that can improve our stroke. Probably leg workouts or kettlebell swings or something? Since you're getting a lot of requests in the comments anyway I thought I should add :)

i just joined the "Crew" and I have a question about these videos. It's clear i've been doing my stroke wrong for the past 2 years. Is there a set numbers of times/days i should do these exercises before i start the actual Crew workouts? Or, should i do this before the workouts and jump right in?

Just jumping right in is best Dylan. Looks like you tried us out but unfortunately, we don't offer the video feedback you were hoping for. We'd definitely have to charge more for that but it's something we're considering!

next couple of videos should be about weight lose and how to keep loosing weight - long distance steady state or short intense intervals? both? always throw something new to have your body continue losing weight? Also - pls do a video about how to prepare and go through a full marathon row. could be a great idea for a mini series! oh yeah, also - how to improve the power per stroke video. especially for old, lazy heavy smokers like me!
