@@ExpertContrarian Thank you, like overall this is why I have a problem with people pretending as if choosing to attempt to stop the Rumbling is a great heroic strictly morally good action - no, there are obvious consequences to such a thing, you are choosing sides in which group gets genocide committed upon them. And, IMO, advocating for the idea that the only morally correct choice for a minority group to choose in the event they are being genocided is for them to not take the only action capable of defending themselves because it would kill a larger group than them, out of some skewed sense of "utilitarian" ethics based purely on numbers, is like, one, really bad optics, and two, a really really immoral stance. There's not a good option but that probably has more to do with bad world building and writing yourself into a corner where both ways you can end the story result in a message that says "genocide is good, actually". Seriously, why was the outside world so comically evil? They all either want to genocide Paradis or exploit it for it's resources. And Kiyomi has the gall to tell Floch to his face that he'll "only make the world smaller". Lady, you did not care for these people at all! You just wanted their crystals! /rant

@@requiemdermorgenrote4465 it is way more heroic actually . there is no need to even choose a side.. that's the all point. the simple test is> be neutral. every unbiased person would choose to prevent a massive world scale genocide if given the choice.. because by doing so you save more than numbers.. you save the world's histories.. ethnicities.. all land animals species .... world's tech.. landscapes.. world's ecosystem ..education.. and the list goes on and on and on. and of course, you save an extreme amount of innocent humans.. but it's not all about the numbers.. a more important question is.. what do you really gain from going through a world genocide? if it's to save a your closest friends? a certain city?.. if you choose those over what i just described.. you are no longer neutral.. you act by bias .. but if you ask the same question to an unbiased person he will surely choose to save all that i described before.. by his logic and understanding that doing so he is doing something that has more good in it and it's more necessary and unselfish. which gets me to the point.. disregarding your bias and doing what is actually more "right" and serves more people and serves more good in this world is more heroic. and in the case of mikasa.. and the gang.. ya that makes them more heroic to some extant because they do that despite their bias they gained over the years towards the island. while reading this story i always asked myself if we were to get seasons worth of the world suffering during those 2000 years by the eldians.. and we got to follow certain characters from that time and learning to know them before even getting to know Eren and everyone on the island.. we wouldn't get so attached to the island now would we?.. the best way to choose what's more heroic is to try to be unbiased as much as you can.. work with the facts and choose what's better to do by knowing all those facts. but if you don't agree with what i said or have a different definition of what is " good" it's all good. we all have different perspectives in life. and to your question "Seriously, why was the outside world so comically evil?" .. well in this story the all world suffered by the eldians for almost 2000 years pretty extremely by the lore of the story.. so it only makes sense .. after all take the jews and the nazis for example.. the nazis oppresed the jews for several years but it left trauma and hatred for generations .. so imagine what's 2000 yeras of that sht xD cheers.

I've mentioned this before, but one of the things the author absolutely NAILS is the fact that every choice in the show makes logical sense from the perspective of the person making said choice. Factoring in personal values, beliefs, bonds, as well as the information they have access to at the time of making the choice. That last one is important and is sadly one that many writers fuck up, but it's done so well here. What's also really dark is the fact that the jagerists came about in a manner that's quite similar to how the scout's coup happened, being unhappy about how those in charge handled the situation and hid information from them that was highly relevant. Which makes the interior police guy's words to Hange ring that much louder. There are also two lines I can think of at the moment that closely mirror's Eren's current actions: Annie's line about doing it all again if it meant being able to see her father, and Mikasa's line to Ymir form a while back. Specifically, "There are only so many people I actually care about, and right now I'm out of time and room in my heart to care".

@@ExpertContrarian The author doesn't say wether either side doing it are right or wrong, you as the viewer interpret it as such. Which IMO is another example of brilliant writing because it perfectly illustrates how people label things as good or evil depending on what perspective they are seeing it from and what information they have access to at the time. I remember thinking along these lines when I played Alien Isolation, and the marchal guy sacrifices you to kill the alien (although storywise you do manage to survive, but he couldn't know that would happen). From the marchal's perspective, it was the only choice he could make, and he HAD to make it. From Ripley's perspective, being on the recieving end, it is something she (and the player) fully rejects.

I'm giving my take on Floch's game in this episode, since it seems analyzing politics is not your strength, unlike understanding psychology of individuals. Floch is working on forming a new regime in Paradis. Obviously, the Jaegerist coup was a success, and they achieved it by using Zeke/Yelena plan to eliminate the ruling Eldian regime (the military dictatorship with Historia as a figurehead). Pixys and Nyle were taken out by tainted wine plus Zeke's scream, and Hange was detained at the restaurant, but she subsequently escaped. In any case, Jaegerists headed by Floch is the new provisional government of Eldia. That leaves Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Conny in an odd situation. They were earlier detained along with Hange, but were temporarily released from captivity to help fight Marleyan army and defeat pure titans. Because they contributed to Jaegerists' victory, they were not put back into detention, but given freedom afterwards. So Jean was not in position to interfere with Floch's dealing with Yelena's gang, as despicable as it was. He would just end up behind bars again. Now the power struggle has been settled, Floch's next project is to stabilize the population. There is a broad support for Jaegerists among population because the previous military government stopped being transparent ever since their raid on Liberio and capture of Eren Jaeger. But in order to legitimize the new Jaegerist government, especially given how violently they killed the previous regime, it would be best if some of the 9 heroes of Shiganshina were among the new regime. 9 heroes of Shiganshina are very special. They ended a century of pure titans tyranny in a heroic battle, and were decorated by Historia with necktie pieces (think of them as congressional medal of honor) in a grand ceremony. So Floch is trying to feel out whether Jean is open to supporting the new regime, trying to distance himself from purging Hange and Levi. 'I did not have a hand in killing them. Zeke did that, yes.' On a different note, I despise Floch as well. Him being 1 of 9 heroes of Shiganshina is purely luck - Zeke merely missed with his rock bombardment. Compare this 'accomplishment' against actions of the other 8 during Shiganshina battle. He was included in the award ceremony as a nod to other scout volunteers who were sacrificed in Shiganshina. Yet, he has not been humble/modest with this honor, and swings around his fame a manner the other 8 do not, spouting stuff like 'we must fight, give your hearts!' He is an opportunist who has done ugly things with power and influence that he has not earned but was given.

35:35 this would be the colloquial use of the term "cognitive dissonance" - the discomfort of holding contradictory beliefs. I don't think Floch actually believed levi was dead, I think he was just interested in convincing Jean. Granted, it was probably not what you meant, but I think it would be worthwhile to point out that resolving cognitive dissonance isn't necessarily a negative, or "corrupting" thing in itself, all it means is resolving conflict in belief, which may include what could technically be described as "lying". Let's say you've been in a car crash, and therefore distrust driving, but at the same time you know that driving is statistically much safer than your impression leads you to believe. Discounting the statistic and relying on your personal experience or vice versa are ways of resolving the dissonance. I couldn't tell you which is more truthful or which is the "right" way.

Sorry I missed the live stream, England Semifinal and all that! Annie's adopted father was Eldian. He just wasn't Marleyean Eldian, hense him being darker looking. This is something I've mentioned a few times and something people seem to forget alot when talking about Eldians/Subject of Ymir, Marley and the wider world. Marley was not the only place that treated Eldians like shit. They all treated them pretty similar. Infact, Marley was ironically the better place for Eldians to be, because whilst they were still hated, due to Marley controlling the titans they actually had a USE for Eldians. That Gunshot with Annie's dad transition into Guilty Hero is so good. Partly because Guilty Hero is such a fucking good OST track. The core reason why Jaegerists are in charge is that they wiped out all the military opposition via the wine. Its kind of implied (although not made super clear) that over the last few years, young recruits don't realy understand why they are still doing the whole titan training, since the enemy isn't titans anymore. So most the young recruits will side with Jaegerists because even if they aren't fanatical, they were the ones that seemed to be modern and looking at the future. The old guard (and especially the leadership) were mostly killed off by the wine. The Erwin thing is really interesting actually. I actually strongly think Erwin's idea would have been very much in line with Zeke's plan for Eldian, minus the whole, euthanisia thing. He would have absolutely thought that although horrific, a partial rumbling is the only way to proceed. The interesting thing though is regards Eren, because I think Erwin would moved to have him killed and his titan's taken by someone more controllable. Its a fucking brutal call prior to Eren going totally off the deep end, but is absolutely the sort of call Erwin would potentially make. Yeah, in that scene you start to see why evreyone just follows Floch. You can hate everything he stands for, but he is so easy to follow because he is absolutely truthful. He absolutely 100% believes EVERYTHING he says. He doesn't waver, hesistate. Theres no conflict or indecision. He is absolutely steadfast that everything he is doing is the correct and only course of action. If you compare that to everyone else... they don't have that. Hange, Jean, even Pyxis. None of them knew what to do. None of them really had a plan for the future. Now theres obviously absolutely understable reasons for that, but that because we are intelligent enough to see the nuace. The majority of people are not that smart, or have so much going on that don't have the time to dedicate any brain power to thinking about it. They see these people offering vague idea and half truths, and Floch offering them concrete absolute "truth". And yeah. The most remarkable thing about Floch is that despite him becoming this almost over the top insane villian... he might be the MOST believable charater in the show. Whilst I think your right in that they are his hero's, I also think its him just being smart. Jean is fucking useful, he wants him on his side and knows that there at least a part of Jean that always just wanted that peaceful, cushty life as an MP. The Levi/Hange thing has nothing to do with it being a conflict to him imo, its simple him trying to shut it down to them. He doesn't want them thinking Hange/Levi are alive, cos he knows they will oppose him. If he tells them they are dead, they won't go look for him, have no-one else to turn to and hopefully follow him. Oh, and as for why people followed Jean/Mikasa regarding the Titans, I think its a simple case of them being the Titan killers. Theres a few scenes earlier in the season where you see recruits being dubious about why they even bother training to kill Titans when there aren't any anymore, and then training with guns etc would be better. Thats why they follow Floch, who is a leadership figure pushing for a modern military. But in that moment, Floch isn't there and the threat is suddenly Titans. So yeah, they follow the orders of the two people there who have the highest titan kill count. The only people that might have higher are Hange/Levi (well, definately have higher in Levi's case) and they aren't there to follow, so Jean and Mikasa and Armin are the defacto leaders due to having the most experience killing Titans.

Another interesting point to mention about Floch is that he's not someone who's ordering people around from the comfort of an office chair, he's leading the charge personally and, as we see later, is even willing to die for what he believes in. People generally tend to have an easy time following those who act like that, especially when their agenda is "protect your home and your families". Btw, Floch is a slave to the idea of "saving Eldia".

For example, you keep mentioning that Jean should arrest Floch, but do you think the people around would just stand by and let it happen? The people followed Jean, Mikasa and Armin because they're the ones most experienced in killing Titans, and because they had similar immediate goals. because people keep failing to understand that "jaegerists" people are only a Reaction to Problems that have been ignored for to long. The Problem arent really the Jaegerists, but the fact that we ignore what people say until they became radical. People say its wrong to turn "jaegerist" but their only alternative is to "acceppt the reality of things" so to say, or simply "trust in the system". People take a Symptom and pretend that said symptom is the actual illness. Thats also why History repeats. We failed to understand that Fascism was a Reaction to Bolshevism. This ignorance is best seen in German Politics. We have a leftist Policy for over 10 Years now that did nothing but make the Situation worse, yet people are brainwashed into thinking that a party that is not even in power is the "true danger to focus on". It was Leftist Policy that brought us where we are, yet people keep pointing the finger at the "evil brainwashed painter people". @@storieswithstyle and what should the people have done sooner ? My Point doesnt really contradict your point at all anyway. Pretty sure i wrote that they are a reaction to left-wing extremism because no one else did anything. Most people tend to think the second as the correct answer and my controversial standpoint is : That is exactly why we dont learn from History. We either start to acceppt that a radical reaction is no psychosis based on fear-propaganda, or stop crying about how History repeats itself. We live in a World where i have to take a person seriously, that beliefs that he is a literal fox. While i have to condem People who say that the Refugee-Policy is Catastrophical for the Inner Stability. The Problem is very obvious, its just that especially Germans cant think clearly about this kind of stuff because pretty much from the day we born till the day we die, we have no objevtive History Lesson. We really have lessons who condem our History. Just as in Attack on Titan. Parents could have looked at what their children were taught or grandparents should have talked more to their children. but most of all, not giving politicians so much money. Floch helped to gather Jagerists ,that is why he got the power. The 9 people survived from that battle who were all got promoted by queen.Floch is within them. So he is at least top9 high rank leaders.

It's insane how Floch has never recovered from the su1c1de charge. It's like his state of mind was always on that extreme survival mode since then

Did you even watch the show? It literally is still life or death. It has nothing to do with being unable to recover.

That's why I can't sympathize with Annie. She sees all those dead people of the rumbling and says would kill all her victims again. You can she was indoctrinated by marley but this right here are her true feelings. The story just loves torturing Reiner and everybody just loves to remind him he's a scumbag, he suffers on every turn to the point that his biggest wish is to die and he takes some accountability by confronting the victim of his actions - Eren. But Annie? Zero accountability. I guess listening to armin and hitch for 4 years was a torture enough...

@@storieswithstyle Expertcontrarian has a point. You cant point the finger at people like floch by using tropes like "its always others they put in danger and sacrifice" when in Floch´s Case its actually wrong. No matter how hard you hate Floch, its undeniable that he looked into deaths face. Jean, Mikasa, Connie and all the other Survivors didnt have to Suicide Charge, while Floch had to and he did. Yet he keeps fighting himself and putting himself at danger and since you finished the show already you know that he was consequential with it until the end. Have you ever thought of the possibility that modern germans are like eldians in marley ? Constantly confrontet with how demonic and evil their ancestors were ?

Jean has never been a leader at any point in time in this story. Floch has been the leader of the Jaegerists since the beginning, and he was the ONLY ONE Eren trusted. I can't imagine why you would be so confused. To the Jaegerists Jean is literally no one.

Nah, he is at least one of the people who survived Shiganshina to them. Also, Jeans character arc is becoming a leader, started by Marco, so these situations rounded it up very well in the end =)
