DarkOs - A Lightweight Arch Distro For WM Fans

DarkOs is a minimal Arch based distro that provides a base for tweaking and customisation. It uses an easy installer and out of the box provides Xmonad, Herbsluftwm and Awesome. It also provides the option on installation to install many additional packages, Desktop Environments and WMs.
This is the first time I've heard of this distro, so I thought I'd give it a spin.
If I'm honest, whilst I appreciate the work that has gone into it, it does feel like a work in progress. There isn't a consistent feel to the styling
and, for me, xmonad just through up errors. However, the other WMs worked fine.
If you see this distro as a foundation on which to develop your own WM config files it does make sense, but you have many other options if you want to do that.
You've probably guessed, I wasn't blown away by this. However, your mileage may very, so give it a try for yourself.

Thanks for showing off DarkOs, I started the project as personal project then I switched it off to the public and made those editions. I apologize for the unsatisfied expectations that DarkOs put. I really try to put much effort to it since I work on it alone (no one wants to contribute). Its actually pre-configured out of the box. PS those packages you have chosen are already pre-installed. The issue you were facing with xmonad was that when you reinstalled it you missed some xmonad libs (xmonad-contrib) reinstalling xmonad and it xmonad-contrib would've fixed the issue. For the confusing slid I forgot to remove that Plasma is the main desktop environment, I apologize for it. Thanks alot again for the review .

IDK... I think Dark OS might be onto something. It's kind of perfect, actually in my opinion. I've been going through one distro after the other just wanting something that doesn't require you to have to learn what the hell the developers did to design their version of a desktop, just to undo it all so I can do it the way I want. I just want something that installs the stuff I want to install, as basic or close to basic as possible. I think the fact that this person included so many options to go along with it is like icing on the cake. So many distros (especially Arch) while great and functional and pretty to look at, out of the "box", make me feel like it's already been over-packaged. I don't want to have to install basic Arch every time, just to have that personalized feel to it, but distros like Arco, Archcraft & Axyl, while they are great, you still gotta work through unlatching things from the polished system to truly personalize it. They're great for anyone who wants a computer they can just "theme out".. but I want something that's like an old motorcycle in a garage. All the parts are there, it's not particularly anything special, it's something to work on without fancy crap getting in the way. ANYway, really appreciate the review.. I started downloading it after a few minutes of watching.. so I'll actually have a complete opinion about it soon. But just had to wait to see if it was actually going to load into the desktop! I'm actually impressed and I think this might be the best Arch distro ever! Ha! Thanks OTB!

I think this was a very tasteful review. I have a lot of interest in this subject and this distro was not ready for prime time obviously. That's okay though. It just needs a bit more tweaking and then resubmitted for DistroWatch review. Until then, post your config files. I've completely agree with you sir. We will keep an eye on it and maybe he will reach out for some community help. That's what it's all about. Cheers!

I think it is a fork of Arco Linux because many things resembles to Arco Linux What I also feels that it was also inspired by DistroTube's things also, even the bashrc was quite matching to DT's one

Hey Steve, No docs, No howtos, no detailes , I must say, you must be very brave or restrict all install to use'n drop VM, I thought you'll gonna just give them a big "hug" just because of WM installed/config by default, ..sorry I should know you better, fair and square congrats m8, +1 for honesty. No it is not made by some 12 year old, it's just there's no time to do all the work by myself, and there's no contributions to it, so it's pretty stressful to maintain everything. Yet its involving slowly which is good.
