Watching this documentary was something else. The Darksiders franchise is one of my all time favorite video game series, with DS2 being my favorite and seeing all this background info on how they came to be is really fascinating. The DS franchise is also one of the few singleplayer games that I've played through more than once. Both DS1 and 2 I've beaten twice and I loved each playthrough. I know it probably sounds weird that I don't usually replay games, but that's how I'm like. I sometimes visit older games after years have passed, but that's it. I made an exception for Darksiders because I loved the games so much. The action, the exploration, the dungeons, bosses, puzzles etc... I loved everything about it. Then Darksiders 2 came out and it had everything and more! It added RPG mechanics to the game that I LOVED! I love getting new armor and weapons in games and having that in a Darksiders game was a dream come true. I still remember how I played the first game. I didn't know much about it, but I wanted to play it because it reminded me of devil may cry. Anything with fast combat reminded me of DMC back in the day. I ended up borrowing the game from my brothers friend and the rest is history. Last year I bought a remaster of the first game so I could own it physically and to replay it after a long time. And right now I'm just really looking forward to Darksiders 3, I can't wait to get back into that universe.

I felt like I lived the whole life of other people while watching this documentary. Thank you, I hope one day I can back you up on Patreon. P.S. I'm really happy that developers acknowledged that second game was way too long. My playthrough took ~60 hours and I'd be really a happy person if it took 25-30 hours less. Also, it still feels like a miracle that the third game is in development - I remember feeling pretty sad when I read that Darksiders IP was bought, but not the studio - I honestly thought that they just bought it with no intentions to use it, just because it was cheap. And I was really happy when it turned out that the same people are making the third game. It looks like this whole "thing" has some kind of guardian angel making it work.

The game's length keeps players busy cuz short games like The Order: 1886 feels lackluster and a waste of money
@damienscott65616 жыл бұрын
Jackie Logan 1) I didn't felt like Order was too short. For me, the most ridiculously short big-budget game was the first Homefront - I couldn't believe that it was over when I saw final credits. 2) Some games just overstays their welcome. For me, Darksiders 2 showed almost every gameplay mechanics way too early. Last summer I played Castlevania: Lord of Shadows which has very similar vibe, but I never felt bored while playing it (and I took me ~50 hours to finish it). It just kept delivering new gameplay mechanics, new locations with different settings, puzzles that don't replicate each other, etc. I guess it's not really about longevity, but about keeping it fresh for the whole walkthrough and that I didn't felt with Darksiders 2.
@jackielogan91046 жыл бұрын
Damien Scott I mean short as in the player does not do much unlike the God of War 3 and Gears of War 3 games that keep players busy and immersed in the story and gameplay
@StarboyXL96 жыл бұрын
@ Damien Scott Are you kidding? Darksiders 2 wasn't long enough! It was just so good that after finishing it in about 50 hours, All I wanted was for there to be an additional 20 hours or so of story content, along with larger health pools for bosses so I can metagame the various builds...

I like how self aware everyone involved in Darksiders is. Even the composer actually knows about the critical reception, what the fans are saying, etc.

Outstanding job! Never seen a work that gave Darksiders franchise what it deserves before. I hope you make a documentary about the long loved Max Payne franchise.

One of my favorite game of all time. I keep on playing it again each. The magnificent artwork keeps on pulling me back. Except for Darksider2. As awesome as it is I agree with Dave. It is a bit too massive to replay it casually. So glad Darksiders3 scaled down to Darksiders1 again

Yeah DS2 is my least favorite. I LOVE Death as a character though.

I always find it interesting to learn the story of developers that locks themselfs behind their studios walls for months even years and but blood sweat and tears into the games we love. Their passion is truly contagious, I never played a Darksiders game before but with the increased hype surrounding Darksiders 3 and now after watching this documentary I might give this franchise a try.

Great documentary, the best part is how someone magically materializes in the background at 48:09

Darksiders 1 is one of my all-time favourite games and my favourite franchise is Hitman, which Jesper Kyd was with from the start. Such amazing soundtracks.

For people asking about the statue, it's currently on EBay for only $199. The seller has sold a bunch of them. Was originally selling for $600 retail a few years back. Just type in Darksiders statue. I bought one and got it recently. His eyes & chest light up and comes with rechargable batteries . I LOVE it!!!
