Are Gold Label McFarlane figures a ripoff??

Some time ago I learned about McFarlane's Gold Label line and how one of my favorite figures so far, Hazmat Batman, was getting a Target Exclusive Gold Label variant with a light up feature. Finally, I found him at my local Target and decided to put together a quick comparison to see if the Gold Label line is genuinely a more premium tier for collectors or just an excuse to double dip.

I feel like mcfarlane is testing out what they can do with the 25$ price point. I feel like mcfarlane sometimes skimps on paint to keep the prices low. This figure for an extra 5$ has better paint and an action feature. I wonder if they did all they’re figures at 25$ if the paint would be this detailed on more figures.

I think the gold label is alright, the only figure that really looks a lot better to me (like to get even if I already have the first version) is Wonder Woman. I just like the paint apps on the GL Wonder Woman, just looks better than the first one but I am hoping we get a good comic or 80s-style Wonder Woman.

I think it really depends. In this case I would pick just one between the 2 Hazmat suit Batmans. But take for example the Azrael Suit of Sorrows Gold label release where the paint is so different it's almost an entirely new figure even though the body mold is the same, in that case getting the 2 figures would be the best as they're different enough that you wouldn't feel "ripped off" by them re-releasing the same figure with a different paint app.

It’s hit or miss you’re right the hazmat look has a feature worth looking at not all of them do; with that said I’ve been to my local target lately and they have an overload of hazmat Batman no one wants that figure unless they’re hardcore collectors; so it has to be a figure we really want with enough new features worth rebuying at a higher price

This one is is bit different a gold label from others due to the light up. Every other gold label is just a repaint and they are take it or leave it. They don’t usually charge more for them. I like the paint apps of the gold label hazmat batman so I painted up my regular one to look more like that

The Light up feature mechanism is still on the outside. The button is on top half of the tank right below Batman's neck. Pause it at 11:23 the black tab under the tubes. Make sure that clicks to turn it on and off.

I mean it is not 24.99 like most people are saying below. The Gold Label - At least everytime I saw it on Targets website, AND when I BOUGHT IT - Is only 22.99. So It really is only $3. I say HELL YEAH. Just the paint apps alone are nice. Am I saying I want them to start painting stuff slightly better and charging us more? NO that is not what I am saying, but this GL Hazmat definitely looks better, even more you consider the light which is a cool touch. I agree the tank should still be matted color though. I think in general that if McFarlane would focus a bit more on QC maybe slightly better plastic? Maybe find a way to make it so arms are defective less commonly? (the ball joints have a habit of causing me to have to return figures and try again, sometimes several times, which is completely unacceptable) So better QC, better plastics, MORE ACCESSORIES they need to take NECA as an example, maybe two heads per figure, masked and unmasked etc. Then more accesorries. If they did those couple things - Which would NOT COST THAT MUCH - I would be happy paying $25 per figure, even up to 35 if it was worthy AKA something really nice. This who deal with opening a figure that only has 2 small knifes and an arm that flops around like a fish out of water isnt working for me. I will still continue to support them, hoping they get better in some ways. I will not stop supporting them unless they get worse, I don't see that happening though. Oh and NOTICE FOR TODD & Co. - Change your official sites shipping policy, if you are reading this! Shipping is too much, should be free or next to free, and you should be splitting orders. Customers shouldn't have to wait if figures release on different dates.

I got the Gold label Hazmat Batman while it's a cool figure it haves it faults like still no accessories (I don't count the stupid black circular base as an accessory) also it begs to wonder why this couldn't have been the regular release. I start to think it's dumb what Todd said "Well, we can't apply a lot of paint on areas on figures due to retailers want these figures on shelves" the figure yes is cool, the light up feature is a nice effect in toy photography and I like the paint applications versus the basic on but as a whole I don't see it being a great figure for action posing just for it standing on a shelf or background. Plus, mine has an issue with the left leg popping off but despite that I think it's a cool looking figure but would it be my top Batman to pose with? Not really.

I have no issues with paying extra for the premium paint job on the gold label, it’s the platinum label I can’t stand, the same price point for zero paint is crazy

Gold Label seems a tad pointless to me, especially in this particular case where I could legit make these paint applications myself (I do like that gold belt though). The light-up feature I just would never use, so no interest there. In all of the GL, even outside DC Multiverse, the only ones I like is the black and grey McFarlane-inspired Batman, the upcoming WW (which has infinitely better colour scheme than the original IMO) and the Warhammer 40K Blood Angels Primaris Lieutenant. I bought the Witcher GL and had to swap it with the original because I liked the darker colors better. /shrugs It's seems to be a hit or a miss with me most of the time.

The Gold label should've been the Batman released cause the paints and light up symbol set it off. I would've paid more for it instead of the regular Bats. Well, it's just another option for collectors but I'm still peeved I got the short end of the stick

I really like whenever these more limited versions have light up features or something else. Like I saw this figure and was like woah because I passed the base figure a lot. I don’t collect McFarlane really but bought this light up figure. Super cool.

This figure was an easy pass for me until I found out about the light up figure. Interesting enough to get, but the regular one was a super pass. Would love to see this same technology on a Mr. Freeze figure. They already got the right shade of blue. Also there are at least 1 gold label version for ever 3 regular ones and he was just $3.00 more.

The tab for the light up feature is on the tank between the tank and the back of the figure. It basically pressed against Batman and just toggle on and off. You can even see the tab to help better press it.

Idk know if anyone told you but if you push the top on the tank inward the light stays on and press the top again to turn it off. That way you don't have to hold it to have it on.

I get tired of mcfarlane selling different versions of the same figure myself. Sure when he was doing spawn back in the day he had masked, unmasked figures, or a rebirth type. But now with DC, even the new Spawn figures, it's the same figure painted 3 different ways. Like the new 12" batman. Black, all gold, or red and black. 3 different raven spawn figures, anti-spawn/redeemer. Not to forget gunslinger. Just released a 4th version, with a horse. Come on man!!

McFarlane toys are shit to me. The paint apps are horrendous especially on the Spawn figures and the sculpting is generally shit.
