Well done. Eventually I would love to see a comparison with RT and when you may chose one over the other.

Andy just one of the many nuances of DT... Exposure warnings use the histogram profile. It does not use output. The separate gamut icon uses the softproofing profile... So all the variations in the Exp warnings use the hist profile... and the separate gamut tool uses softproofing profile... HTHs Its Todd by the way... not sure why it used my misc gmail profile...

Great video. It would be amazing to see a similar one for RawTherapee. I think I've seen all your RawTherapee videos and I can't recall one about highlight recovery.

darktable is definitely a tool that repays the effort one puts into it, and vice-versa. I started with RawTherapee and then tried darktable. It took a while to get comfortable with darktable (albeit far from expert) but I was reasonably competent for a while. Lately I've been working with ART to see what it's like and even in that short time period, I feel like I've atrophied my darktable muscles, as it were. It's definitely true: Use it or lose it! 🙂 Nice clear explanations and demonstrations.

Each time I get frustrated with an image in Darktable and think - "this is easier done in my elderly Adobe, Affinity 2, etc.", I ultimately return to Darktable and manage to find a solution to the problem. It gets easier along with me assimilating the many finesses and learning how to use them. I have learned many useful details from watching Boris Hajdukovic's videos here on YT. I hope Andy will follow up on that with his entertaining way to uncover Darktable's secrets.

I too have experimented with RT as a DT user. I actually like the rich colorful images that are easy to get but when I pixel peep I always have the worms. from any sharpening I do. I have tried to adjust the radius and some others things but In my hands I haven't hit on a recipe. If I take the sharpening away all good but now of course the image is blurry. In DT you need to take care but using local contrast and diffuse and sharpen I get a pleasing image without distorted micro details... I guess I have something to learn unless this is something embedded in the RT output

Using the icon to the left of your clipping indicator will give you the same information based upon sensor-clipped highlights.

Interestingly, half the photos you shared (graveyard, bike and squirrel) are 95% "automatically" fixed by the default modules when I open them in my version (4.4.1 on a Mac) and only need a very small tweak to the relative white exposure in Filmic RGB to fix 100%.
