So many similarities to the 1983 Diane Downs case: * Both blamed the attack on a stranger with bushy hair. * Both cases have zero evidence of an attacker. * Both injured themselves to sell their story; Darlie cut herself on the neck and arm, Diane shot herself in the arm. * Both had calloused, bizarre behavior soon after; Darlie smiling and laughing at her kid's gravesite, Diane smiling and laughing while demonstrating the attack for police. * Both kept changing their story to match the evidence. * Both are narcissistic sociopaths.

For me, Darlie is innocent...I have seen so many neutral documentations here in Germany, where I live and where nobody wants to see a mother to be executed, even if she was the murderer! Abolish death penalty because no real democracy needs it! Free Darlie R. or at least, give her a fair and new trial...that damn sillly string video says nothing!!! There are 1000 different ways to mourn! When my Dad passed away, it even took me 3 months to let it sink in and to be able to cry. Am I a murderer as well? I cannot believe you all, because "you" brought us back democracy after those horrible, sick and destroying years from 1933-1945. We still have to say thank you, USA, that death penalty in Germany was abolished for ever and written down in our constitution already in 1949 which is a "gift" mostly given from "you"! And look what you do in your own country more than 75 years later: thinking again about the gas chamber as a method to kill people because there is no state left that wants to deliver Midazolam to you any longer, a part of the former cocktail of the lethal injection. Gas chambers, really!? Are you just "kidding" or mentally ill? Please understand that Europe is disgusted and speechless! Murder in the name of a state is murder as well and nothing else. But even if you are an advocate of capital punishment, please tell me one reasonable motive why Darlie should have killed her two boys...unfortunately, there was that sad case of a Sue Smith (?) who killed her 2 boys about 1 year before the Darlie case happened. I remember her begging the "intruder or kidnapper" not to hurt or kill her 2 boys in front of all the journalists and on TV! And then, everybody learned that it was her! You all were influeced by that story. After only 20 minutes of investigation of the crime scene, one of the leading officers "saw" that it only could have been Darlie. That is everything, you need to know to see that there has never been a search for the real intruder. Lots of whitnesses saw two men a couple of days before that night and even right before that awful crime, a neighbour saw a guy looking into her windows and then run away when he saw her. They all described that man exactly like Darlie did! There are so many "reasonable doubts" that it is impossible to see Darlie as the killer of her own children. No, no, no, is all I can say and think about that awful story! 😞 Update 25.11.22: today, I got my 1st like!!! After 2 months and such a long "story". 😞There are only 2 reasons for that, either the liker is German or European as well or an alien who escaped from area 51...sorry, but if really 2/3 of "you" and even 50% of all people living in Texas are against capital punishment, I cannot understand why more than 95% of those writing comments here are discussing only about is Darlie guilty or not and not about the fact that killing people in the name of state is murder, no matter if somebody "did it" or not! To be honest, it makes me wanna throw up whenever I read a he or she DID IT!!! Abolish death penalty and every law allowing to harm people. No matter what they did! Guantanamo is the best example that you still torture people in so called prisons being concentration camps and nothing else. And please never forget about your crimes against the Japanese during WW II. I was in the USA at the age of 17 for a couple of months back in 1992. And whenever I went into classes (A and B levels only) to talk about "my country", the pupils only came up with the Oktoberfest, Munich, Bavaria, Fahrvergnügen and Autobahn and Nazi Germany. "Is it true that Hitler lives in Berlin and gets retirement?". If he still lived in 1992, he would have been 103 years old then! 🙂 I often didn' t know if I should laugh or be upset! "Do you have hairdryers and washing machines?" OMG! Really!? One day, I answered that my Mom had to go to the river every single day to wash my bras and jeans there. I thought, everybody would know at once that I was kidding, but no one did. "You" are different today, but still, your knowledge about foreign countries and the level of your education and language skills is so poor that you rather should concentrate on your real and big problems and where your high rate of crimes and homicides comes from. Why are you still allowed to get guns? Every crazy "idiot" is able to get one. This is your biggest problem ever! Capital punishment doesn' t avoid murders and no state with the death penalty has a lower crime rate than those without it. Why does nobody discuss those topics? All those issues are so much more important and no one of you is talking about that. What a different mentality! Poor, poor system! I liked the USA, but I could never live there forever.

I used to believe wholeheartedly in Darlie’s innocence and that she was railroaded by the system, but after reviewing the evidence, it proves that no one else but her could have done this. 1) Darlie claims to have awakened on the couch after being attacked, yet there was no blood on the couch to suggest that she was slashed and bled out. There was also no blood collection on the back of the night shirt she wore. We have to assume that if she was attacked while sleeping, as she claims, there would have been a blood trail traveling from her neck down to her back and on the couch, as she was laying down, and there was no trace of it. 2) There were droplet’s of Devon and Damon’s blood on the back of her night shirt. There is NO way those blood droplets could have gotten on the back of her shirt without wielding the knife in a up and down motion ( Cast-off blood). 3) Large amounts of Darlie’s blood was discovered in the kitchen sink with Luminol, which proves that she bled into the sink and cleaned it up. This dispels any notion that she was attacked on the couch ( where the was no blood) and that she inflicted the wounds to herself while standing over the sink. 4) Screen fibers were found on a knife from the kitchen, which proves that someone from inside the house cut the screen, as it would make no sense for an intruder to use a knife from the kitchen to cut the screen because they would have already been in the house. 5) There was one broken glass from the wine rack, but the wine rack itself was undisturbed along with the rest of the glasses inside. The wine rack also had a lock that secured all the glasses in place. Detectives pushed and banged against the rack with force to see if it was possible to cause any glasses to fall out and break, and it did not happen. This proves that one glass could not have fallen to the floor during a supposed struggle. Someone intentionally removed the glass and threw it to the floor to stage a struggle. 6) Darlie claims that the intruder dropped the bloody knife in utility room, where she picked it up. But there was no trace of blood on the utility room floor, which suggests that knife never touched the floor. 7) The Routier’s back gate that led to the alleyway was not working properly. It was being held by strings and had to be meticulously opened and closed a certain way as not to break it.. An intruder standing on the outside would have had to have yanked or forcibly fumbled with the gate m to get into the back yard, likely resulting in some sort of damage, yet there was no sign of any damage, and the gate was found completely secured by the police. This means a stranger, unaware of the gate’s mechanics, would have had to have taken the time to meticulously and carefully maneuver the gate to open and secure it without leaving any damage. 8) The nurses who treated Darlie did not document any bruising on her arms. Darin claims the nurses commented on the bruises, yet they did not record them in their notes. The bruises appeared several days later when she was photographed and had already been released from the hospital, which indicates the bruises were inflicted after the attack. As far as a motive is concerned, it’s difficult to determine what could have caused her to do this, but one fact that cannot he denied is that Darlie suffered from mental health issues for quite some time. Her family has always minimized her mental health struggles as lasting a short time, but Darlie’s journal entries prove that she was struggling with depression for years. People who worked for the Routiers and had no ulterior motive against Darlie testified that she told them she was overwhelmed with motherhood and was very unhappy. Darlie and Darin did not have a happy marriage. They had a huge fight the night of the murders, resulting in Darlie wanting a divorce, which Darin swore to in a 2002 affidavit. I believe that Darlie succumbed to the stresses and mental health issues she was dealing with, had a mental breakdown of some sort, and likely does not recall murdering her kids because her mind blocked it out. I will admit that the prosecution used a lot of unnecessary and unfair character attacks against her that were not relevant to the case. But if you put that aside and just look at the evidence, it proves that no one else was in the house that night. I hope I’m wrong and that if she’s innocent, she will be vindicated. But until then, this is my conclusion.

Damon's injuries were massive, however. It would've been physically impossible for him to be walking or talking. And, of course, Devon's injuries were massive. Darlie's poor, dumb mother. What kind of intruder goes into someones house and uses a knife from the house they're in? The intruder plans to kill people but doesn't take his own weapon and goes in unarmed? It's also SUUUPEERRRR convenient they all just happened to be sleeping downstairs in the living room that night for their 'sleepover'. When on the phone with emergency services she had to mention that she'd touched the knife and wanted to let them know her DNA would be on it as her sons are bleeding to death right next her? Trying to create her alibi from the first second she could. The intruder killed the boys first even though she was the adult there and the only one that could have overpowered the 'intruder'? No footprints outside? Suggests to me the murderer was already inside. The mesh in the window had been cut from the inside but she says the intruder climbed through it.... Wouldn't it have to be cut from the outside then? And on top of that, the knife used to cut the mesh in the window was found to be one of Darlie's knives in her knife block... There were 0 signs of forced entry. There was 0 evidence of a stranger entering or leaving the house that night. Not buying it one bit.

Her mother is in such denial that she lies about facts like the cut was 1 millimetre away from her carotid artery, the same thickness of a cigarette paper. A cigarette paper averages at 50 microns, 1000 microns is 1 millimetre. So about 20 cigarette papers. If your going to compare human flesh to Rizla then its safe to assume any other facts are exaggerated.

Like many, I have followed the 'pros' and 'cons' of this case for years. I think there is an almost instinctive refusal to believe that a mother can hurt her own children, and a growing tendency to see all women as victims. It wasn't just a video or his superficial appearance that led to the guilty verdict. All the debate in this case escalated from a doubt, to the point of suggesting that all the prosecution witnesses lied, that all the evidence collected was false, that all those who participated in the investigation were inept... Basically that's what they did in the 4 episodes of 'The Last Defense', for example. Curiously, in that same documentary, Darin maintained that Darlie is innocent, but he said that the burglary affidavit was a strategy put together by the defense to support the intruder theory in a new tria,l and he only signed it to help.

The knife used to cut the screen from the Inside Out (which in itself proves there was no intruder), was one from the couple's kitchen. I believe an intruder wouldn't risk going in a house without having a weapon of his/her own, let alone search in the night to find a knife in an unkwown environment (rooms of a random house). There were circular blood drops in the kitchen, which were suggesting the person holding the knife wasn't running, otherwise the blood pattern would have been different. First thing she mentioned in the 911 call is someone stabbed her (establishing an alibi). "someone stabbed me and my children". No innocent parent would mention herself first when her children are dying, she wouldn't even mention her stabbing, she would have only cared for the children to be saved. No evidence of an intruder found in the house. Nada. I believe she did it because she had postpartum depression, which, along with being tired all the time taking care of a baby and two toddlers, and the financial difficulties, she may had decided to take her own life too, but hesitated at the last minute, the wound in the throat had hesitation marks.

The problem with “recreating” this case is that we don’t literally know what happened in terms of what went on between Darlie and her husband. We don’t know whether he was aware or not of what she was going to do or had done. Only the two of them actually know… Here We have recreations of Darlie’s claims of what happened. We don’t know that that’s what happened. Indeed, the prosecution asserts that it couldn’t have happened that way… That prosecutor is so smug. I do think she is guilty. There was also an overturned flower arrangement in a ceramic vase. Again, there was no damage to the vase, so it would not damage it or make noise. Then there's the matter of Darlie's bruised arms. If she did even receive the injuries that caused those bruises at that time, why didn't Darlie scream for Darin to help her when her arms were being injured?

How is it impossible that waddel was the first responder to both Darlies & Douglas’s murders?. He was doing nights at the time of darlies matter & douglas feldman’s homicides were perpetrated via road rage. if I remember correctly, you might be right, but it’s definitely not a miracle a coincidence at best. Just so everyone knows....this doco is not completely factual. For instance, they keep saying that the jury were not shown the rest of the two hour tape at the cemetery. There were two different tapes. One by the police, of the memorial service. That's the lengthy one. The other, where they spray the silly string, was filmed by news media. The Routiers made a deal with the media that , in exchange for their relatives accommodation being paid for, they could film the birthday celebration and they would give a journalist an interview immediately following. So the two hour one, done by the police, was for surveillance purposes. The prosecution declined to show it in court, yes, but they offered it to the defense to show and the defense declined. The defence had viewed the tape. You have to ask yourself, if that tape had shown her stricken with grief, why wouldn't you show it? To counteract how bad the other tape looked. Additionally, her family has that tape and has never shown it. While they don't show it they can claim she's on the ground crying etc. No one has seen it. Can't dispute that. But far worse than the silly string tape, far more damning, is the interview with the journalist. Watch it with the sound off. Never would you guess that they were talking about the very recent, brutal murders of their two small boys.

So what you’re saying is after being brutally attacked, having your children murdered, they should act the way you would act? You do know there’s no written book on how to grieve, right?! To me there’s more than enough reasonable doubt, and I definitely wouldn’t put it past the husband to have done this to her. A quarter of her body was in bruises, that is no doubt, the fact that she was stabbed on her dominant arm to the bone is not in doubt. Like I said, reasonable doubt all throughout this debacle of a case.

Not to be offensive, but why do people even visit graves? People talk and pray to their lost loved ones. Leave flowers, toys and other mementos. They obviously believe that somehow they can be heard or reached by the loved ones. Like it's some conduit to their soul. As a non believer, I find it irrational but it often helps someone though their grief. Darlie is a believer, if that was her way of grieving or connecting to her son's, who tf are we to judge? Besides, it literally had NOTHING to do with get guilt or innocence, period. Does that make everyone that showed up guilty? Also, her sister brought the silly string and others there smiled, it's like saying everyone that showed up or smiled were involved and didn't care about the kids. Seriously?

I've even thought that his weird comments about the way she looked could have been him in shock and thinking about how much He loved having her even though she mudered his boys but it's certainly strange and if they planned it together She might never say because she'd be admitting her own guilt and She's to much of a narcissist for that to happen .I've known about this case since it happen and the way she acted at the grave of those murdered little boys was enough for me to not have any doubt that she did and I've seen the whole tape .

Its tough. I don't understand why anyone would harm a child, especially their own. I personally feel she is guilty. Her behavior was completely weird (although I don't know how anyone would react to their children being murdererd) but the smiling, laughing is bs. I would also like to think even being injured i would fight like a wild cat to save my kids or kill the attacker. Saying this, why would an intruder murder 2 innocent children first? I don't think there was anything wrong with the way she behaved for HER SON'S BIRTHDAY at his grave site. Why would people have rathered see her having emotional breakdown after breakdown? She was honoring her son, she was celebrating his life. She could have been smiling thinking of all their fond memories. I think that prosecutor had tunnel vision. He was so sure she did it. And I think she was being sarcastic when she said "well if I did it I don't remember" because she couldn't believe she was being accused. Idk if she did it or not, but I think the graveyard thing was blown out of proportion. A 2 hour long video and only that was shown? Her entire family was smiling, laughing, spraying silly string, did they kill her boys, too? You can't convict someone based on 30 seconds of a video. The Dr says they "could have been self-inflicted", she didn't say they were definitely self-inflicted.

This case has always baffled me monumentally. I have watched many KZbin videos about it to try to make up my mind about her guilt as the perpetrator or her as a victim. This video by far seemed to do the best job of explaining how she could’ve been the perpetrator. I feel like I’m at 98% sure that it was her at this point, but I still struggle with how she got so many terrible giant deep bruises. I suppose if she’s crazy enough, she could beat herself with some object to cause those bruises, but they were pretty severe, but so are her knife wounds, so that’s pretty bizarre self-infliction. But I always did think her knife wound on her neck looked self-inflicted. Plus her response to the police interview where she said “If I did it, I don’t remember”, seemed like an admission of guilt to me.

Darlie didn't have any bruises on her arm, when she was in the hospital nor did she complain of any pain in that area. She presented with the bruises 4 days after the murders, at the police station (the 10th of June). Medical professionals testified that the bruises were 24-48 hours old, not 4 days. None of her wounds were severe. Her surgeon, Dr. Santos testified that all of her injuries were superficial and non life threatening. Also, he testified that he would have sent her home from the hospital the same day, if not for the circumstances of why she was there.
