Thank you so much for this video! Mattel using AI (and very badly, too!) for package design is definitely a new low for them. Makers of counterfeit and poor quality toys are already using GenAI for the graphics for their products, and for Mattel to be placing themselves on the same level as them is simply appalling, especially as they try to keep up an image of a company setting standards in the toy industry.

Rainbow High has been disappointing me so much 😢 I know I’m biased from an adult collector standpoint, but I think about how the line started as a high quality FASHION doll line where you could style some really cute outfits for all the girls-now every release has a gimmick that, like mentioned in the video, is not going to last very well. So many dolls have gimmicks nowadays, I’m surprised Rainbow High isn’t leaning into their own branding to differentiate. When I was a kid, the #1 thing I did with my dolls was dressing them in cute fits (and I still do lololol!). From a branding perspective, you can sell a $30-$50 doll and then sell a whole bunch of $7-$10 clothing packs that kids will snatch up. I think kids deserve fashion dolls that allow for that play and form of creativity!

Unrelated to the doll content - I live in a city and the amount of off-leashed dogs is just INSANE. It's wild to me that people are willing to risk their pet and stranger's safeties like that. And I simply just don't believe anyone who says anything like "oh but my Fido's sooo well-trained! they always listen to the recall" because that is simply Not True. A dog is ultimately a creature with their own desires and it takes one squirrel or small animal for them to be hit by a car and taken from you forever. Or if it's not a car, it's a human or other dog that runs a risk. "Oh but Fido is so nice!!!" yes, to You, the person they know and love. Not to strange humans. Not to strange dogs. It takes one person to get bit and push it - and now they're putting your dog down. Or that person could defend themselves, and now your dog needs immediate medical attention. Or your dog mauls another dog/gets mauled themselves by another dog - it's just not worth it, and I'm kind of tired of not being able to go on a fucking walk to the corner store without being scared an off-leashed dog will run up and bite me (and this happens even away from dog's homes - such as in the park, where there have already been multiple people bitten by off-leashed dogs).

Mattel REALLY knows how gullible their customers are considering the fluctuating quality of their collector products and pricing due to FOMO and them also using AI on a shitty collector doll. Mattel, you have ARTISTS working at your company. How hard is it to ask one of them to draw something you ask them too??? Anyways, the doll scene has been pretty dire these days. I was excited about the Pixling Supremes after seeing a leak of them, but now that they're out and cost 60 dollars because of their gimmic? Yea, no thanks. The only thing I kinda look forward to are the newly leaked Neon Pop Tweens because one of them is an Ariana reference and she'd go great with my Kitty K, but that's about it. I do also think the new Rainbow High dolls, especially the pink one, look quite cute, but they're not on my wishlist by any means. (Also, hope you're doing better now after the incident.)

I think those rainbow high dolls could have been really cool if they took it from a prosthetic angle but that would have taken a little more thought. In addition: the liquid is its own issue. There’s so many fail points to leak or even just dry up over time. I’ve seen other toys with the same gimmick over the years and they indeed do that. They’re making a very disposable piece of plastic. Not much collector value to keep kids or parents from tossing them out eventually.

​@@em84c I made that assumption too when I first saw these glitter leg RH dolls, they look like a cancelled concept for the Mermaze. Which makes ZERO sense, when MGA could've just updated the Project Mc2 body with modern (before the reboot) RH articulation, and given them fabric tails instead. That way, the dolls could go from Fins to Feet, which is what many people (including myself) asked for. And those LOL Tween mermaid dolls' tails look like they belonged to the Sirenz line that also got cancelled from Mermaze too.

Regarding the Holiday Barbies, I actually love just about anything tartan plaid, I am a fool for a doll with red hair, and a redhead with freckles? My jaw dropped, my eyes glazed over, and my brain function dropped by about 90%. However, even the remaining 10% could tell me that the tulle was cheap and annoying at best, and the earrings? Someone must have either cheated or slept his/her way through jewelry design class. I can't even begin to think how you could come up with something so awful and clunky looking. Sigh. Oh well, at least I saved $50. p.s. I hear you on the AI.

I watched an unboxing of one of the pixie supremes today, and I'm guessing that the talking mirror gimmick is supposed to feel more "fun" than reading an instruction booklet. That being said, a glorified instruction manual is a big waste of plastic and technology for me. The resources for that could have gone into making the dolls even better.

I actually liked the gimmick with Rainbow high, it reminds me a little of my beloved novistars. I can see little me playing with the rosseta doll and giving her this story of how she is an amputee, and she decided to have magical prosthetic legs. I do think that this gimmick would work better with shadow high doll and their Rainbow colered skin and alt fashion, but its just my opinion. the shadow high feel def isnt misplaced- the original leaks for these dolls from a month agoish showed them all with fantasy skintones. the change isnt bad per say, but they didnt adjust any of the colors for the hair or clothes, and comparing them, i think its easy to see how they didnt think beyond the change for further adjustments. also, all of them have the original rainbow high face, but in the leaks, at least marina (i think thats her name) had a different mold. ik that part isnt related to ur comment i just havent seen anyone else mention that at all n its been Killin me since i noticed 😭

Also I was a little disappointed that Venus has straight hair in this line but I like that they gave her vine edges :)

the garden skulltimate secrets, yeah, i feel similarly. the red, romantic, rose-y vibes of draculaura are great but i feel like they could have done so much more with it. and twyla, i was excited about, but her hair is so..............and its so short, too, meaning styling is gonna be a pain. Venus is nice though i do miss her full set of twists already, but that's literally my only complaint. (the g3 face mold is so good though, works with any hairstyle they give her i bet!) at this point i wish mattel would put out just. character outfit sets, i don't need a whole doll, i already am eyeing the fearbook twyla so i don't need a more boring one, even if the clothes and accessories are cute. i guarantee parents would buy clothing packs for their kids far more often, too! seriously, all doll lines should come with fashion packs.

SO glad to hear you’re doing better after the dog bite incident, and shame on that dog’s owner for not keeping the dog leashed 😒 i’m super looking forward to the new skulltimate secrets line but i will admit i am tired of the plastic lockers. the first few were fine, i use them to store all the other accessories my monster high dolls come with, but the new style has so much less storage space and the spaces are so narrow it’s difficult to get things in and out (though that’s with adult hands, maybe children with smaller hands don’t have that issue). twyla’s a must-have for me and i love venus too but i know a lot of people are disappointed with the changes to her hair for this doll, and i am among them 🫤 i like that draculaura got a different color scheme than her usual pink/black but she may be a “wait for clearance” buy for me. definitely curious to see what lagoona looks like 👀 the whole line gives me ‘90s vibes in the best way tbh, i just wish there was an option where the doll came in a cardboard tube instead of the plastic locker/closet thing. mattel does this with barbie cutie reveal so it’s not like it’s a ludicrous idea! i didn’t care for the holiday barbie before, but using ai art is the hardest no for me 😒 mattel needs to quit that immediately. i’m sure the glitter snowglobe gimmick won’t age well on the rainbow high dolls but i do really like clementine 😖 saw her at target the other night and strongly considered getting her but i don’t think she’s a full price buy for me. do you plan to do an unboxing/review video for rosetta? i’d love to see one if you do make one!

We literally found Rise of Red dolls and new Mixlings Pixies today on our shopping/drive home. Red is waiting with redesign Cleo and Brooklyn Barbie Dream Besties to be unboxed, and my wife has already unboxed Angelica and taken her up to join the others in the Pixling army she's amassing. Saw the new RH dolls in the store as well, and a spot for MH Spectra, and saw the Fearbook MH dolls on an endcap, but one can only buy so many dolls in a day (says my wife, LOL). I am not a fan of the AI artwork route for Mattel - it's a disservice to the artists who not only work for them, but whose art was stolen and used to train the AI. Also saw some slim-box Disney ILY dolls at Target - no second outfit and minimal accessories. I want to say it was a $20 retail, but I don't remember. I am going to try my best to get that new SDCC Ghoulia when she goes live on Thursday! I got into the fandom after the original (missed the first three SDCC releases for MH and the first EAH release) came out, and this new version is so, so pretty! More Ghoulia dolls from G1 make me so happy because she's my favorite sculpt, aside from Operetta!

The snow globe gimmick worked beautifully for the winter mermaze dolls and spectacular on some of the novistars back in the day...but they're fantasy creatures and aliens. On them it was pretty and weird and interesting, you can suspend your disbelief. On a regular human it just looks like she had a REALLY good time a the rave last night. And if they use red or pink glitter, well that's just going to look like a crime scene.

Im quite annoyed at how they straightened Venus's hair for Skulltimate Secrets esp since her locks in her debut look were so groundbreaking (and don't me some nonsense like "they're reffing her G1 look 🤪" because the most textured hair I've seen on Clawdeen were those measly little braids from the last SS wave and they were poly)

Venus’ hair is most likely due to Mattel trying to keep the dolls on the cheap side. They tend to cut corners with the SS dolls (like with the poly hair) since most of the budget goes to the gimmick and extra clothing. Hopefully we’ll get another Venus doll soon in a better line.

Glad your’re ok after the bite! I’m shocked and appalled as usual at the christmas barbie. I want more mini barbie land!! I really like the mermaid tweens, and am very happy with the price point. I do wish they had arm articulation but I can let it go. I’m less excited about the tweens that leaked with the weird stuffed animal thing, the plastic clothes and repeated designs there for about $30 is yikes. Myself and others (ive overheard parents in target tell their kids its too many boxes and they wont buy them) are def getting tired of the skulltimate packaging (and similarly like the roblox thing) I have a few and want venus but I dont like paying for the useless box. I’m excited for twyla the most. While rainbow high’s return to their origins has been a rocky road, I kinda like the goo legs, mostly cuz it reminds me of novi stars. (Now those they should bring back!!)

I heard the RH sparkle line concepts were originally meant for Mermaze Mermaidz. They would have been so cute. I miss them 😭 I will definitely get Rosetta. She reminds me of Brianna. Maybe the orange one too. I might rebody them too. I love the snowglobe thing on mermaid tails but it looks stupid on legs.

I'm still heartbroken 💔 that the Mermaze dolls were cancelled! They are so gorgeous, and underrated! I personally own all of the dolls+the salon playset, and I'm grateful that I was there to collect them from the very beginning. I've given the majority of my collection new bodies though (I kept OG Kishiko, WW Kishiko, and Casea from Slumber Party on their mermaid bodies to celebrate them as a brand). MGA should've had more faith in them, especially since they were just finding their footing with the Sirenz line, which featured a ball joint in the tail. And I'm sad about the unreleased characters from the YT show that we'll never get!

I think the RH snow globe legs wouldn’t be that bad if they were part of the doll design - similar to Novi stars, where it fit into the whole space and alien aesthetic. Now it’s just a regular RH fashion doll like all the others (we even got Violet doppelganger) but for some unknown reason they have snow globe legs 🤷‍♀️ For example I think other than the space themed clothes with sparkles in legs - if they didn’t want to use the same idea and do something different - aquarium and ocean theme would be awesome. Like fruitiger aero and 2000’s objects filled with fake fish/starfish/seashell aesthetic - I would absolutely love that. Or sci-fi, futuristic, cyberpunk, fairy, any fantasy - at this point I feel like everything would be better than regular fashion and it’s not even that hard to think of some theme 🥲 But like you mentioned, there’s still the fact it won’t last well (I remember all too well how all my stuff from childhood filled with sparkles and liquid ended, and it wasn’t good 😬) - but since they decided to go with gimimck there should had at least been be a point to it 😞

There's some discourse around Royale High anyway, without Jazwares getting involved. Apparently the game developers are in hot water for their treatment of influencers and for making promises they never keep. Overall I doubt these dolls are going to survive.

The red haired Barbie went so fast. And the descendants dolls are basically impossible to get. The resellers are now not only targeting collectors but kids, literal kid show dolls. At this point my integrity toys and Azone dolls are easier to get than playline Mattel etc. And why do we never get a light brown haired Caucasian,when most white women fall into the dark blonde to light brown hair category? And yes, that dress is awful. Why can’t they do a dress that looks like something a real person would wear? According to my older daughter, the Roblox dolls are very accurate but she still doesn’t want them.

I like the glitter legs, they hit right in my soft spot for kitsch 😅 The water getting discolored is a worry though for sure. If they had made the legs out of dark/vibrant colored clear plastic instead of colorless, that might have helped mask the possible discoloration a bit better. I have a gen4 MLP Pinkie Pie pony with the same water and glitter gimmick, she's a darker translucent pink, and she's holding up really well even though she must be at least 5 years old now.

Im exited for Dead Fast Ghoulia. I love the greyscale screening. SS5 is terrible but I love Drac because of the colour scheme. Ive been wanting them to experiment with red tones even though pink is my favourite colour. Red is vampire like.
