Thanks Kate for sharing your knowledge on Darlingtonia in such a beautiful location. I've just purchased my first Darlingtonia here in the UK to add to my new collection of carnivorous plants which I only began this year. Finding all of California Carnivores videos interesting and useful.

Great informative video. For us in the UK not able to see these in their natural habitat it's great to see. Please keep posting great content! Regards, Chris

Your overall plant knowledge is 🤯, Kate. Great to see the Darlingtonia in the wild, and what a score finding all those drosera.

Such beautiful sights that most people pass by every day but don't actually focus on the intricacies enough to really 'see'. Thank you for such a glimpse into this realm. 🌱

I got back to Butterfly Valley for the first time since the massive Dixie Fire last year and I can happily say that it didn’t get burnt at all. The local area around there, not so much.

Thank you! We were worried about the area!

Is that a railroad track at the end of the video?
@California_Carnivores3 жыл бұрын
I believe that is part of the walkway that runs throughout this area

Aren't there some Utricularia and other Drosera there?
@California_Carnivores3 жыл бұрын
There are lots of Drosera spotted later in the video!

Were there lots of other people there? I wanted to make the trip this last weekend but didn't due to the holiday.
@California_Carnivores3 жыл бұрын
It wasn’t too crowded. This spot does get more traffic than some of the lesser known Darlingtonia spots but it’s totally worth it!

@@California_Carnivores Made it out there today. Very cool! Only saw one other person the whole time but it was hot as heck!
@California_Carnivores3 жыл бұрын
I bet it was insanely hot! How did everything look?
@swatch123453 жыл бұрын
@@California_Carnivores I've never been there so I don't have much to compare it to but it looked good to me. The pond was pretty much all dried up but the soil under the Darlingtonia running from the mountain was still wet and running a little. I found those red sundews too!

Where is that butterfly valley from
@California_Carnivores3 жыл бұрын
It’s in Northern California

I saw on the news the Dixie and Fly fires have converged in that area. Do you think these plants will survive?
@California_Carnivores3 жыл бұрын
Many California native plants are used to periodic fires. Often times the fires are helpful to the ecology but if the fires burn very, very hot, they can be much more destructive. It’s really hard to know the impact to any plants right now.

HI Guys, I am looking to make a bog and i am not sure what to put in it. I have 1 drosera, 1 Pingucula, 4 Dionae, 1 nepenthes and 1 Sarracenia. Can i put them all in 1 bog? Are they all compatible to a bog? Thanks in advance
@California_Carnivores Жыл бұрын
The Dionaea and Sarracenia can definitely be together but it depends on what kind of Sarracenia and Pinguicula you have; many of them will not do well outside with the Sarracenia. Nepenthes are more like houseplants and they like a very different soil mix so I would keep it separate!
@mylygabi Жыл бұрын
@@California_Carnivores thanks for the reply, i already made the bog, it has 2 months now. everything seems to be doing great. i did not plant Nepenthes in the same spot with the rest.i put it in a normal pot. Thanks
