Daniel..may I make a suggestion concerning Bree? Go in the stall alone with her and shut the door. Sit down against the wall and let her be. Let her come to you. It’ll take time but let her go at her own pace. It’s a lot for her to process. If she comes to you, just let her sniff you, don’t make any sudden moves. Talk softly and quietly. Pet her slowly, a little at a time. I know we all want to go fast when doing things, but trust me, it’ll be worth it. I wouldn’t worry about treats until later, lovins works just as good. people just need to understand that a controlled maintenance burn is a completely different animal than a wildfire. A wildfire is a fire that is out of control. A controlled maintenance burn is specifically designed to enrich properties and prevent undesirable overgrowth. As said, two different animals completely. It's great to see all of your efforts to create a lush and Rich natural habitat

People also need to understand that in nature wildfire caused by lightening are a natural & needed part of the cycle of the land…especially in the prairie lands. Also that if left without human impact most forests would dominated by massive old growth trees. Thus would not have the underbrush that is now common & the reason many forest fires spread so rapidly & for so far. As control burns like his show…leaf litter burns rapidly, doesn’t produce a lot of heat, easily dies out & isolates at downed/dead trees that will burn longer. Hence why forest management is important…bc we are responsible for altering/interfering with the natural process of the land. And controlled/prescribed burns are an important part of that management. The National Forest Service does it regularly…weather permitting & if housing hasn’t encroached too closely.

My uncle worked for the national forestry department when I was a child. I am 64 now. One of his jobs was community outreach. He was SMOKEY THE BEAR. Costume and all! There were more than one SMOKEY.

I halter broke a 1/2 racehorse mule! Beautiful girl (An accident) but very difficult like Bree and her Mom, she had never been handled at the right age. We put a loop around her neck and around a rear leg then lifted it off the ground so she could not kick, then petted her and gave her treats. She tamed down pretty quick and no one had to go to the ER.

In 1967 I got a Smokey the Bear Teddy Bear and grew up to be a Smoke Jumper.

Smokey The Bear was a cub rescued, vetted and raised by Forest Service firefighters. There was only one real Smokey. Every Forest Service Office had a costume and someone designated to wear it and another to accompany and speak for them. Prescribed fire is a hard concept for John Q Citizen to wrap their head around. It took me many hours of class to finally understand the natural progression following fire. I kid Daniel a great deal about a yellow shirt and Red card. Daniel does correctly. I can guarantee you that the plans for his fires by the watershed association was a couple of 3” 3 ring binders. You’re doing great Daniel!

My son (11yrs old) absolutely loves working out, he does 100 special designed burbees he coach made for his gym. So when his gym got closed down last year we spent the money to build him a small kickboxing/cross fit gym in our basement to keep him work passion strong

I think I'll just try to go back to walking again. Maybe I'll get a neck phone holder to entertain me while walking. Or just use my treadmill. I hope it still works.

My Grandfather back in the 60s and 70s in Pleasantville NJ was the fire chief and he also was the local Smokey the Bear. They did a good job for sure about fire safety. Now being older see the need for forest maintenance and how is replenishes the earth. I remember seeing Smokey the Bear (my grandfather) on the firetruck at the holiday parade.

some geese are good audible alarms. Some geese are bad audible alarms because they constantly false alarm. Those triplet geese constantly false alarmed. This defeats the purpose of having geese for an audible alarm system because you don't know whether it's an alarm or if it's just them honking for no reason. I understand why they had to go.

Daniel, when training a horse or a feisty little donkey stand close right next to them. That way you're not a target. they can't hit you if you are standing close. When walking behind a horse or a donkey be sure to walk right next to their hind legs. Standing away from her hind legs you're putting yourself in the target zone move closer!. the alpacas are saying " What are you doing to our baby Bri?" LOL

Definitely greening up. Controlled burns reduce the risk of wildfires by removing a lot of the leaf litter and undergrowth that can catch fire from such causes as discarded bottles and carelessness by people not extinguishing cigarettes and/or camp fires.

The DIFFERENCE between campfires and controlled burns is the TIMING. You normally CAMP in the SUMMER when conditions are DRY and DANGEROUS if windy, because the fire can spread. But CONTROLLED BURNS are done in the WINTER when the ground is WET at least *5" DEEP* and there is barely any wind, plus rain on the way, which prevents the fire from spreading.

Prescribed burns are important. I remember my Dad burning out lawn to put nutrients back in the soil. But I also remember when they didn't do any kind of fires. Some of the grasses and flowers were fading away, the normal foilage was changing, and not necessarily for the good. Then! There were some really bad fires. Guess what? All of a sudden the foilage started changing back to what it had been before. Foresters realize that for some foilage to come back they need the heat from a fire. Like you have said, for has been used for years. They are a good thing when done safely. Prayers are for everyone involved with the Texas/Oklahoma wildfires❣️ God bless❣️🙏✝️🙏❣️

The fire near Canadian isn’t too far from me. They have had that type of fire before on March 6th, 2017. My son’s house was one of three houses lost. The most famous house that burned was John R. Erickson’s house. Our firefighters said that fire was moving about 70 to 80 miles per hour but they really couldn’t keep up with it. It is really hard for to stop a fast moving fire. We were ready to bug out last Friday night. What helps keep wild fires in check is plowed fields and winter wheat. If you were to fly over some of the fires, it would look like rivers. We had on just north of here split into two. This isn’t unusual for us. Fire season goes back to the pioneer days but they didn’t have the safety measures that we do. Fire is a good tool to prevent wildfires.

I’m glad to hear you call him Smokey The Bear. I’m pushing 80 really hard and from the first time I heard of him, it was Smokey THE Bear. Then they changed it to Smokey Bear. And tried to convince us it had always been that way. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ It reminds me of the column in Astoria, Oregon. I was born in Astoria and even though I didn’t grow up there, it was always the Astor Column. Now it’s the Astoria Column. And people say it was always that. Maybe it was, but I’m not the only one who grew up calling it the Astor Column. I don’t understand why some people always have to be right. SORRY. got on a rant.

To maintain the rhythm of the song, written in 1952 by Steve Nelson and Jack Rollins, they added “the” between “Smokey” and “Bear.” Due to the song's popularity, Smokey Bear has been called “Smokey the Bear” by many adoring fans, but, in actuality, his name never changed. He's still Smokey Bear. Smokey being his 1st name and Bear being his last name.
