IIDX Tutorial: JKOC carboard modification

A relatively quick video showing the steps needed to perform the cardboard mod for the Beatmania IIDX Japanse Konami Official Controller (or JKOC for short). For first time modders this usually takes about 20-30 minutes including the time required to cut out the cardboard for the mod. This mod has been proven to almost completely eliminate the button sticking issue of this controller and has changed my controller from being an absolute nightmare to one of the best IIDX controllers i've ever used.

What kind of paper/cardboard did you use?

This works on US KOC. I just got back into IIDX after a near 10 year hiatus. Decided to upgrade the one layer to three. Never been better.

I really wish I knew how to do this back in the 2000s. I had two JKOCs that were practically unplayable due to sticky keys. After doing this and cleaning the keys with isopropyl alcohol, they're 98% better! Thank you!

@NicolXIX as i stated, trace around something circular on cardboard and cut out circles if pennys don't fit. If you're still getting sticky keys just add another layer of cardboard for the specific keys you're still having issues with.

Lol i've had my USKOC for around a year and I decided to do this weird key mod to it, I'm removing the rails so they feel more like the JKOC keys. It feels nice.

@darqs Thanks I got the Dj dao buttons are they horrible compared to the Sanwa buttons?

Have you tried using a USKOC? I have one, and it's pissing me off at how uncomfortable it is. If you have used one, how would you rate it compared to a JKOC?

This is a long shot but I've been trying to upgrade my JKOC with actual switches instead of the rubber domes. Are there any tutorials? I haven't found anything.

You'd have to fundamentally change the whole controller to house switches and there's little to no point using switches without proper AC keys. At that point you're better off just biti lng the bullet and buying an ASC

yeah it should. don't ever shave the keys it makes it worse hahaha

@kakusei3000 hahaha you should have asked for this earlier :P. I would have been more than happy to make one. If you ever have any issues with your DAO's microswitches i can show you how to replace those :P

That's good to know. I was hoping it wasn't just me. after playing on an AC cabinet, I just wanna smash my USKOC because I hate it.

@TranceCore3 terrible. I played on one for a little while and i couldn't stand it. The amount of pressure you need to his the keys is absurd. Bu making both rails slide down to make the key register they've ruined the controller design entirely. Additionally the sound it makes when you hit a key is nowhere near the sound an arcade controller makes. Long story short if you can buy a JKOC anywhere toss that controller to the wolves to shred to pieces
