Brilliant. Full Stop. I first heard him do this song at the Bluebird in Nashville... I was knocked out by him and I still am as I sit here in Australia 25(?) years later. He is as good as it gets.

Saw him play in the Bluegrass Underground in the Tennessee Caverns. Great venue literally inside a cave

So appropriate for these pandemic days....Darrell Scott masterful singer, guitarist, songwriter and apparently a prophet! I think one of the “pandemic positives” is that perhaps we’ve all learned to appreciate the simpler things in life. Tim O’Brien should have brought you along with him to the 2019 Canmore Folk Fest in Alberta Canada! Maybe next time. Thanks for sharing this,

Darrell is so talented and just flies under the radar. Have you heard that little song,"You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive"?....he wrote it.

I'm sure he wrote this but the version I'm used to is when Travis Tritt sang it. Although I gotta say I like this version better. Darrell Scott is a true musician and songwriter. Insanely good.....

Perfect comment. I love both versions. They're different songs really. This bluesy original is awesome.

So much going on here! Talented upright bass working with a great drummer, unusual but complimentary - - Keyboards just having fun - - Darrell's great voice - - The mix could always be better but I love it just the way it is. Sit back and enjoy many times...

He and Kenny (drummer) played, and hung out together a lot. There are some fine videos of the 2 of them together. Shattered Cross is one of my favorites kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXLNdpyDrq-gkK8

A review of his various performances of this song on youtube shows that I think he never plays it exactly the same way twice, reminiscent of that other great guitar player, SRV. What a great player and great personality. A quiet, humble and immense talent.

Darrell Scott continues to impress me. First saw him on Transatlantic Sessions then I found this. Great job by him but I agree, the drummer and mixer need to be replaced :-)

i LIKE KENNY'S DRUMMING. PERSONAL TASTE I GUESS. THE STEEL PLAYER YOU CAN'T EVEN HEAR TILL THE END AND IT'S VERY BASIC. WHEN YOU ADD OTHER ROCK-LIKE INSTRUMENTS TO AN ORIGINAL VOCAL/ACOUSTIC ARRANGEMENT IT'S A FINE BALANCE. JAMES TAYLOR IS A MASTER AT THIS. ALL IN ALL I LIKE THIS SONG AND LIVE PERFORMANCE. THANKS FOR POSTING.

It is a real shame that most people equate this song with Travis Tritt. I have nothing against him, but the obvious superior version, and talent, is Darrell Scott's, in whatever way he chooses to play it, since he seems to play it slightly differently each time.

Geez this is soooo much better than Travis Tritt. Travis Tritt version loses so much from these lyrics. The phrasing here is so much more authentic and passionate.
