I was 39 when I was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. I was not expected to be alive very long. I'm now going on month 34 and still fighting. I like to listen to this song to remind myself that everyday I've made it to is a great day to be alive. Even if it doesn't seem like it, just the opportunity to have made it is amazing. Today is a great day to be alive.

You've got a history that could compare to mine. I've had 6 brain surgeries, 3 strokes, and 2 entirely different types of radiation therapy. I had a non cancerous tumor on my pituitary that hast tried to blind and/or kill me repeatedly. I correct friends that say, "whatever doesn't kill you just makes you stronger." I like to tell them that, "No, whatever doesn't kill you, will almost certainly try again. So always be vigilant. "
@picklefish744 жыл бұрын
Because I've had 3 strokes, I will sometimes tell people, "although I promise you that you don't ever WANT to have a stroke, as it turns out, on a surgical table, surrounded by neurosurgeons , with your skull already open, happens to be the ideal time to have a stroke if you're going to have one. The next week is still pretty strange either way.

Travis Tritt, Vince Gill, the supergroup Alabama, Mel Tillis, The Riders in the Sky, Whisperin’ Bill Anderson, John Conlee, The Zac Brown Band, OCMS, and Alan Jackson….ive been blessed enough to hear them all live and in person and they were beyond excellent. From my experiences Alabama put on the best show, but that was a full concert and many of the others I listed were Grand Ol’ Opry appearances so it’s not really apples to apples but Alabama REALLY gave one hell of a show, over 2 hours and not one break and the last time I saw them these guys were well past 60. RIP Jeff Cook and Mel Tillis.

Koty Older pick that guitar back up! If you don't you'll regret it! I used to pick the guitar with my paw before he died and when he passed I stopped after I played at his funeral and my mammow kept telling me to pick it back up because she knew he would want to me to and I always said " I will one day " and then I tried about a year ago and couldnt hit a lick, couldnt get my hands to bend back like they needed to be able to play. Do it as a tribute to him! R.I.P to your pawpaw.

This really is a good song. I particularly hear it a lot during the summer. For the baseball team in my hometown, Thunder Bay Border Cats, this song has often been played after most games once the P.A. announcer has said good night to everyone. Considering that the Border Cats are in a summer league for college players, it's the perfect song to listen to to close out the night.

“I gave it my best and then I left it alone” is such a great underrated line in this song and message. It’s about not living in the past, stewing over things that have already happened and can’t be controlled/changed. All you can do is learn from it and keep moving. It’s best to “leave the past alone.”
