Hey, I was in that park June-July 2017 ! Tucking into a salt beef bagel and apple turnover from Beigel Bake. Aussie tourist. Man, that was the best English summer yet. Like being back in Sydney. That park was nice. Lots of birds. Trains going past. I loved my little holiday, and loved the affordable food in Brick Lane. I'll never forget the Chill bar. Great cocktails and bites. My new friend was down White Chapel end making beautiful Illy coffee in his little food truck outside the big office buildings. When my brother's partner was driving me up the wall, he'd lend an ear and make me a coffee. Ah, those were the days ! All gone, Darren, now that I can't travel without killing myself with a blood clot. Thanks for the memories, my friend !

My family are Eastenders but moved to Essex in 1971 and I was born in 1972. My mum and dad bought a puppy from the market on Brick Lane many, many moons ago, my sis had just lost her fiancee, a roofer who fell one day at work, just 18 and they bought her a puppy Peggy as we called her to comfort he during her loss, I was no age. The beagal shop is all I have been back for, as you know great. Darren I have loved your journey and wish you all the best in Thailand. Can we expect more videos from you please, you are so genuine and watchable...and I don't want to part you go just yet 🥺🙏 😊🥰

Back in the 1960's it wasn't called Brick Lane Market, it was known as Club Row, and they sold mainly pets, dogs, cats, birds and fish.

Just to say, sorry I’m behind with commenting! We watch on tv in the evening and so I like, but comment on the phone…am behind with that as I say 😬 When I said on one of your Thailand videos ‘can you not just stay there as we’re loving these videos’ I can’t believe you are actually going to live there!!! Amazing, can’t wait for more. All the very best xx

I used to be based nearby for work and covered most of London up until 16 years ago (where did that time go?) so I know Brick Lane well. I’d often travel from Luton to Hitchin Railway Station and then down to Liverpool Street (dedication eh?) to meet my friend of an evening. We’d have a few beers and then walk to Brick Lane for a curry. It was like being abroad as there were so many “Indian” restaurants with all the waiters touting for your custom. The place was buzzing. I did go one weekend with friends and enjoyed the street market there and others nearby. Happy Days!

Going to miss your London videos. And wish you all the best in Thailand. Must admit I was sceptical at first because a holiday is vastly different from going to actually live there. But I watched a video on 10 reasons to move to Thailand and it changed my mind. Only a suggestion but maybe you could do something similar. I will be looking forward to your future videos and will spread the word to family and friends. Good luck

Spitalfields is good for history, Darren. The Huguenot's were the first refugees to London. On my Dads side i have first generation Huguenot immigrants who married in St. Martins+in-the-Field church, Trafalgar Square when it was only built about 5 or 10 years previously . Long London history in my family like yours.

Hi Darren my Grandparents lived in Camden town for many years. They used to rent a two bedroom flat above a tailors shop opposite the tube station , nearest boozer was I believe called the "Mother red cap" laterly called the "Worlds end?? I havent been to camden since my Grandfather passed away in 1977. No doubt its changed beyond recognition since then, my Grandmother then moved out to Woking, surrey to be closer to her Family who lived in Farnham at the time.

I think it was 500 baht for 2 meals I went for chicken satay approx 20 onion rings loads of chips peanut dipping sauce for the satay, and a sweet chilli dipping sauce for the onion rings my lady had a thai green chicken curry and rice. So for the portion sizes it was excellent value for money. I had about 6/7 strips of chicken breast as well for about £10/11 .

Once when I was in London I visited Brick Lane - I stood and took it in - the history or how over the years various ethnic groups, Jews, Irish, Bangladeshi etc have left their mark on the place as they came and moved on. Then the riots - defending what was the truth there and rejecting racism I can honestly say I felt tearful DJ - its a microcosm that sums up the London story over 200 years or more. Oh and I got a damn fine begel as well.

What do you have to do to get a visa or whatever is required to live there for a year? What happens if you want to live forever there? Do you give up your UK citizenship? Do you have to leave Thailand for a certain amount of time each year? Just curious. I asked a US citizen who moved to UK about this and she said she didn’t know, was winging it. 🤷‍♀️ lol okay… I guess I’m more of a planner, and maybe it’s not a big deal anymore to move to other countries. 🤷‍♀️

Maybe it’s because I’m a Londoner that I love London Town.😊 I don’t know why but I was tearful watching this video! Call me daft, as I am from the Isle of Wight,(living in Vancouver). Being a southerner I just love London. Also because I have been left England for many years now, but have to go back once sometimes twice a year, I miss it a lot. Britain is very unique that is why it is so appealing. But saying that you are going to a place of unimaginable beauty, so I am so happy for you. Any chance that you might go to the West End for a Christmassy vlog before you go off to paradise? Also, I really thought we would see you go to City Spice for a nice farewell meal as you were in Brick Lane. Still, you have to get on with your packing, so your time is precious. Good job Darren.🍻
