Learn how to snap two objects together based on the Normals of both meshes. We will select one of the first object's Polygon Face and with the Snap Together Tool, we will select the destination's surface (a Polygon Face or Edge or Vertex,) and Snap Together both meshes.

Hello. I have a scene, there is a plane moving and i have a rigged character. So can i snap my character to my moving plane and then animate the character while moving on plane? Is it possible? Should i do the snap together command for this? If you reply ill be greatfull.

I tried this to snap a square object to a face, problem is it randomly rotates the square so it doesnt end up matching the angle anymore :/ how do I avoid this?

Move the Pivot of the Cube to the face (of the Cube) that you want to snap to the other object. This is important because you will be able to rotate the Cube after it snaps to the other object, and having the Pivot on that face will help. Then use the Snap Together Tool to snap the Cube to the face you want to snap to and the two faces should match. Hope this helps.

True I can rotate it once it has snapped to the other objects face, but during the snap it still throws off the rotation :/ moving the pivot to the face doesnt seem to make any difference in that regard

Before you do the Snap To Point, perform a Modify / Freeze Transformations. Maybe what's going on is that its taking additional transform data. Snap the Pivot Point to the face you want to use to snap from, then perform a Freeze Transformations (all transform channels should show zero and the scales 1) and try the Snap To Point Tool.

That didn't end up working, but I did figure a way to avoid it, if I first orient the angle of the object to match the same as the destination face (lets say both objects face south) it doesnt do the random rotation issue, but if I try to snap one object facing south to another facing east, it messes it up, strange, but still doable. Thanks for all the info though!

Spent 9 minutes showing what could have been done in about 45 seconds. Intermediate users should not need an explanation of what a normal is.

Yes, this video is for intermediate students, however, we get transfer students from other schools, High Schools, Colleges and the self-taught, and some of them have never heard of face normals. Our beginning students do know what face normals are, but some don't...

Can do this with Max in like 5 seconds. Why is Maya so extra lol

Way too much digression throughout the entire damn video. You need to stick to the main talking point better. If you need to refer anyone to any knowledge, instead of going off-topic for 5 minutes, throw a link in the description to another video and let the viewers know. You will have shorter videos with greater watch times.
