What I find interesting is that Anakin spent as much time in the light as Vader did in the dark. That sounds like balance to me as you cannot be a complete master of the force if you only embrace 1 side of it. Then when becoming one with the force now has true mastery of ALL its aspects. Anakin was never the chosen one without Vader, he needed to live both lives THEN he would be the chosen one!

Padme had to pass on to complete Anakins full embrace to the dark side. She was the only thing that was still keeping a little light left in him.

I'm pretty sure those are two major reasons to have the will to live. Her life force was drained by Palpatine via dark side alchemy and put into Anakin to keep him alive after his loss on Mustafar. She was a major threat to Palpatine's plans, and Palpatine needed her gone. I also believe that Palpatine used Sith abilities to put those premonitions into Anakin's nightmares.
