He was very lucky but then like they say in sport sometimes you make your own luck.....I was there at his 2nd round tie at ally pally and his darts was all wonky but somehow managed to fine the spot when needed.....I met him after the match (I was having a cigarette outside) and he just casually walked past me with his normal clothes on and his darts attire hanging over the back of his shoulders o coat hangers......I just shouted well done kirk and he turned around and said thanks I'm living the dream right now.....its a shame that dartitis prevented a come back later on in life.....but instead of keeping his head down and concentrating on honing in on his ability that he had....ithink the sudden rush of money got to him....and I believe it may of been better if his career in darts was more gradual than sudden...because he was a raw talent a rough diamond that just needed polishing and guidance from a serious pro at the time would of helped.....I wish kirk all the best

About the last time this was possible. Standards are much higher now. Only Phil, could really play darts back then.

What in 2008 there were many others Manley, RvB etc. He was a bit lucky that Mardle brought his A game to defeat Taylor, but the rest he defeated fair and square. John Part was very good back then as well.

@@matthiasroiss4739 When Taylor didn’t play his game, a few others had a chance, but otherwise, no. He blew them all away if he played his A game. Nowadays, there is a bigger group, all at the top level together, but also have the consistency that won Phil so much.

@@gooders8855 Barney with his A game could always challenge Taylor. Perhaps the only one at that time.
@gooders8855 Жыл бұрын
@@aapddd the point is, Taylor was the only one who consistently brought his A game. Nowadays the top 20 do.

@@aapddd Nonsense. Part was sensational, but alas, people are obsessed with averages.

always feel a bit bad for kirk, decent player on his day but all happened a bit too quickly for him

One of those once in a generation events that can happen but he didn't take his chance . Remember the Golfer Jean Van Der Velde?

13 is not a late start to take up darts. Gary Anderson was in his 20s and most noteably Bobby George was 30
