In 2005 in Birmingham UK I requested this song during the concert. Daryl said they couldn’t play it because there were new musicians in the band. Next day we spoke to Daryl again and he said he was sorry that they couldn’t play So close. Two days later we were at their concert in Manchester and at a certain moment Daryl said that they got a request the other day and that they had been practising. At that moment John pointed his finger at me and I asked So Close and he said Yes. They gave us a perfect performance of So close and Daryl threw me his guitar pick/plectrum. One of the best moments in my life ❤

1990 I was 26 years of age. Attending college in Aberdeen SD. Wow does this song bring back days of hot summer nights, and cruising main street. They will never make anything this good or even come close as the 70's 80's and 90's music brought us.

Winter 1990-91. I am driving home from a course I am taking that is related to my new Government job. I have a girlfriend (who I don't love any more) and a 2 year old daughter (that i love with all my heart). This song comes on the radio, and I start balling my eyes out thinking of the girl that got away. Years later, hearing this song still transports me to that late winter afternoon and brings back those same emotions.

A very underrated album by Hall and Oates. Unfortunately once 1985 passed, the music industry stopped marketing them as a top act anymore. Happens to everyone except for a few music artists. This album was a byproduct of the unplugged craze going on in 1990.

What a really great version of this song!! It feels a lot like yesterday. This is the ultimate album version, as opposed to the acoustic "only" version. It's much better this way, and it's so much fun hearing this great song like this, because it really jams away with guitar, bass and drums!! The keyboard accompaniment sounds like heaven as well!! A legendary band Hall, and Oates were. Having originated in Philly, they set the example of real music: the way it's supposed to be played. Now that's what I call real music!!!!

And the dream that pulls us together girl, Is a dream, that's gonna tear us, tear us apart. There's a restless look in your eye tonight, Oh, are you lookin' for some way out of here. We gotta fight to keep it together girl, For the dream, that keeps us, So close, yet so far away. So close, yet so far away. Who would of thought girl that we'll end up this way. Getting' so close, so close, So far away. We're living in a dream world. Yet we're livin' today girl. Just you and me baby. Have not heard this in years. Takes me back to seventh grade, fall of 1990, especially the line "just heads for the sun." It was not a good time for me, but I liked the song. It seemed we knew at the time that Hall & Oates had already run their course, and that this was a last gasp, at least on the pop charts.

Once you've heard this H & O classic...like most of their music...you're saying the lyrics as you hear the track. 'They met on the dance floor at the old high school gym...felt like a rock...she kinda liked him...and his heartbeat like thunder...etc.' The best tracks are those you sing with, identify with, and that provide an emotional attachment. Hall and Oates have that part of music down combined with superior beat. The theme keeps returning...'So Close...yet so far away!" Great stuff!

Wow...I hope that this post doesn't come across as self-indulgent or boring, but this song actually happened to me once at a concert by a rising young Millennial recording artist named Diane Birch who actually was featured on Daryl Hall's own webcast "Live from Daryl's House" back in 2009. We locked eyes at the autograph signing booth at one of her concerts in Chicago back in October of 2013 and I just gushed over her and her beautiful, wonderful talent...then, unfortunately, security guards pushed me away. :( Oh, well, I am as sure that I can possibly be that our paths will cross again..."if you love something, set it free, and if it comes back to you, then it's yours"...go Daryl, John and Diane!!!
