I have a horse that raced these races. He turned 6 years old a couple of days ago. When he was 5, he was done. Never won a race and fell the last race. He is traumatized. When I got him, he was scared, turned inside himself and he didn't want to have anything to do with any human. After a couple weeks he trusted me and I could brush him and lunge him. Now we ride him too. He likes jumping. He is fast too. But he is not strong enough yet. He was extremely skinny when I bought him. 150 kilos underweight. That is massive. Now we feed him lots of good hay, senior soaked food and bix. He is getting on weight and muscle. I don't like horse racing. The accidents are horrible, for both horses and humans. The training can be so cruel. It is nice to see this man, who is really nice for the horses. I wish they were all like him. I watch this so I know what my horse has done and been through. It gives me more understanding of what he can and what he knows. He likes jumping and gallopping. But he also likes dressage. So for me it is figuring out what he likes to do and what he can do. It is a lovely journey with tears, blood and sweat. But I know that in the end he will be awesome! He is the sweetest horse I've ever met. Well behaved, well raised and so gentle. Not mean or nasty. A horse you can trust. And for a thoroughbred he is very calm and patient. Although he is getting more and more feisty now he is getting good food and better muscles. Next year he will be ready for some competition, whatever it will be.

Not every horse wants to be a race horse. But not all racing is bad. Watching ONE documentary doesnt help you understand a sport. Let me know if you want to go see a racing yard/stable. No one is abusing these horses. There are bad apples in the racing world, like all sports and businesses.

What a fantastic jockey Daryl Jacob is. I have been watching racing for over 55 years and I can tell you he must be one of the best tactically aware race riding jockeys around in the business today, a true professional class act. If I was lucky enough to own a string of racehorses Daryl would be offered the chance to ride for me...I hope your future is blessed with winners all the very best to you & your beautiful understanding family. @lisadaniels60203 жыл бұрын
The lows are devestating. I was married to a jockey for almost 30 years. It was amazing how it was ME that would get sad and frustrated FOR HIM while he remained rock solid and steady. Watching him ride a horse from forst race to MANY WINS and hearing him tell me he was taken off for no other reason other than trainers and owners do this when the horse becomes a world beater. It’s a TOUGH TOUGH LIFE and there are way tooooo many jocks who end up mentally and physically broken. There definitely needs to be mental health care for these men and women. So many suicides among jockeys. It’s really sad.

I've been following horse racing for many years and all I can say is this, I have nothing but utter respect for all those jockeys, especially the jump jockeys. These guys/girls put their lives on the line every time they enter the race. And yet we have those others at the other end of the spectrum: over-paid, pathetic sportsmen: footballers!! Great documentary. Daryl is one hell of a jockey!!
