push the power button and keep pushing till lights flashes, then release and push short

And if that doesn't work, use a paperclip to push and hold the reset button the same way

I have tried both of those methods already. Holding down the reset button for a second or a minute or anything else just resets the unit. Holding down the power button causes the lights to flash three times, which seems promising, but I can't get it to do anything else except reboot like normal when I try to push the power button again. I feel like I am close to figuring it out.
