A "tinder box" is a box full of "tinder" which is small, thin, easily burnable shavings, sticks, etc that one would use to start a fire. The saying is implying that the situation is such that a small spark could set the whole situation on fire.

This is literally a love story to GenX. The soundtrack is just crazy good. And yes while the 80's had some questionable fashions it also had some seriously awesome ones.

It's very much what I'd call a "curated" version of the times, making the 80s look way cooler than it was. It takes what was aesthetically attractive and leaves out the rest: the giant perms, clothes with way too many zippers, and let's be honest, a lot of really BAD music. It may have been a colorful decade, but I don't recall it being soaked in neon haze all the time...that's a much more modern film look.

The director of Atomic Blonde, David Leitch, also co-directed John Wick and directed Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw, and Bullet Train. He's a former stuntman, so it makes sense he'd have a feel for fight scenes. US President Reagan gave his "Tear down this wall" speech in 1987, in front of the Brandenburg Gate (West Berlin). The Berlin Wall fell two years later. For those of us who grew up during the Cold War, the fall of the Berlin Wall was both unexpected and delightful. It was a historic moment like few others. If you like Cold War era spy movies, you might like Bridge of Spies. It was directed by Steven Spielberg and starred Tom Hanks. It's even based on historical events.

I don't know how this movie is not more popular or highly rated, I think every aspect is impeccable. From the cast to the cinematography to the action, everything is *chef's kiss*. (Admittedly the 1980s Berlin setting is an automatic win for me -- the time period & location made for some great drama & intrigue.)

It's mostly the same people. They can't juggle two franchises simultaneously, otherwise they'd have to give over some films to other directors and crews and then we'd get really divergent quality. Better to have fewer and better than more and worse.

Great that they used "real" Russian, trying to be really authentic with language, fighting, brutal. Your analysis of Russian (use in movies) is enjoyable. The staircase/elevator was a one-shot or like a one-shot (the camera never cuts away). If you didn't get it at the end , we find out she is actually a triple agent American CIA acting as British spy. She has an American accent on the plane.

The "stairwell fight" is amazing, but it isn't one take (though its made to look like it). There are "invisible cuts" during it. Doesn't take away from the scene though. I think its one of the best fight scenes in cinema tbh :) And I'm a huge fan of the film :)

@martinboyle9163
@martinboyle9163 Жыл бұрын
You know, I thought the very same thing! (Now I got that song in my head.) "Tonight, tonight!" I can't wait to see a movie about Debbie Harry's life. That chick was ahead of the zeitgeist curve across three decades. At 77 years of age, I hope we don't have to wait until her passing to see her get the accolades she most-certainly deserves. She's a total legend in music and a three-time titan of Nu Wave, Rap and Grunge. She deserves a biopic as much as Elton John or Freddy Mercury. I don't suppose I have to tell you about "Rock N Rule." But in case it flew under your radar, no true Blondie fan is complete without seeing it. I sure would like to see Dasha's reaction to THAT animated classic! Best to you-

The Russian with the blonde tip's that she fights in the theater, and doesn't die until she runs him over is in another great action film. He plays the Russian in John Wick that throws John over the balcony, and is the last one killed in the warehouse scene when Viggo has him tied up. I have always loved this film. The right actor's with a great story about the last day's of the Berlin Wall and the spy game.

Atomic Blonde is a fantastic movie, not just a great action movie :) The soundtrack is amazing, the cinematography is phenomenal, and Charlize is fantastic. The "Stairwell Fight" is one of the best fight sequences in cinema imo. All done to make it look like its one take (they use invisible cuts), but the best thing is that the fight is realistic. Like you say Dasha, Charlize does NOT take them out with one punch, she gets tired, she gets hurt, she fights clever (she's not stronger then them, but uses what's around to help her). Overall a fantastic film :) And nice to hear a Russian girl doing the translating for the film so we can understand what they really said :) And cool that the film was actually as authentic as it could be :)

You're too young to remember of course... Everything was about Russia and the KGB until the fall of the Soviet union. Now Putin reconstructed the KGB and the Soviet union but at his own image and will, this generation now will know how it felt how it was to live under the threat of nukes, we did for decades. Pay attention to the history details, there are some very realistic details here. Much love

Вы великолепны! A tinderbox is an archaic word for a "patch box," a household item where the means to create flame for kindling was kept to start fires in woodstoves. (Flint, steel, charcloth.) Today it is used to describe a situation where everything is flammable and explosive, only waiting for a small spark to make it all ignite. Charlize Theron's greatest acting is in the movie, "Monster." Yet, because it was a movie about female serial killer, Aileen Wournos, it wasn't a commercial or critical success. It's worth a watch! A movie with this type of suspense with less of a happy ending is "No Way Out" with Kevin Costner. Also worth a watch! The only woman I want to hug is you, Dasha! ♡♥︎♡ Best to you!

I love this movie - it's one of the few movies that definitely set out to be cool above all else and succeed without making me groan or cringe. Of course it's no "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold" (still the best "cold-war spycraft in Berlin" movie IMO) - but it's stylish, it's fun, it looks gorgeous (especially with extended dynamic range), the soundtrack is fitting both historically and with the mood of the scenes, the casting and acting is great - the late-80s Berlin look is done very well, they took the time to get the Russian right, the fight choreography is awesome - the whole production is top notch. Good movie! Also - "Stalker" is an absolute classic by Andrei Tarkovsky... probably the greatest, certainly the most well known Russian director. His adaptation of Lem's Solaris still stands miles above the Steven Soderbergh one. Perhaps you'd like to watch some of his movies with us at some point :)
