Oh hey! My mate messaged me about this. So I was the driver of that smoky car, what happened was on the cruise with the boys my S1 RX8 (purple/blue colour) with series 2 tailights blew an Oil control ring hence the black smoke. The video of this exact moment was when it had just happened. Towards the end the smoke actually goes away and was fine for the rest of the drive. I didn't stop the minute I saw the smoke behind me because I thought that if it was a blown apex seal or anything related to that then I wouldn't have been able to hot start the car after I turned it off. Meaning I'd be stranded. You probably think I was actually an idiot for continuing to drive smoking up everyone behind me but the reality was it only happened for that 20 or so seconds before it was all fine again. I actually did pull to the side of the road and put my Hazzard lights on though because the guys in front of me messaged my partner in the passenger seat to have me pull over. The driver of where the dash cam footage was taken actually beeped his horn at me for pulling over in an emergency lane that was too close to the road (it's pretty narrow to stop in but I wanted to just have the car be safe). I remember going "I'm trying to just do my best to show there is a hazzard" to others on the road. Anyway that's the backstory!

all diesel vehicles fitted with DPF's and EGR systems should be recalled and have the DPF removed and the EGR disabled. All they do is make the vehicle burn more fuel and clog up the motor and or DPF and create more pollution in the long run. All DPF systems are a fire risk so shouldn't be used in a hot climate country like Australia anyway

The rules for roundabouts say go give way to vehicles on the roundabout. They don't say that the fastest vehicle has right of way and they don't say give way to the right. In Medowie that means if you are travelling along Ferodale Rd through the Kirrang Drv roundabout you are expected to slow down and be prepared to give way to people turning out of Kirrang Drv. Just because you are doing 70km/hr in a 60 zone doesn't give you right of way:(

I've never understood why when people can see someone slowly drifting into their lane they maintain speed rather gently and smoothly slowing a little to give them space... ...And then wonder why they run into the person they could see was clearly not going to get out of their way. In this situation they're both absolute mongs.

Talking to a retired cop friend of mine, he told me that the people who drive on the wrong side of the road can be ranked by country of origin and are usually tourists who come from LHD countries. The ranking is: 1. China (Probably the worst, most selfish and disrespectful of all other drivers on the road)> 2. Europeans (They drive well enough but can get confused). 3. South Americans (Drive like there is no tomorrow...traffic lights optional...fortunately there are few of them on our roads which is why I ranked them no.3). 4. North Americans (They are usually caught out in the first hundred kms of driving in Australia...especially at roundabouts. Fortunately they quickly adjust as, at heart, they are generally good drivers.)

4:07 This is the exact reason the US uses yellow lines on the center of the road to distinguish from the oncoming side so drivers don't mistake it for another lane in the same direction, like what just happened here. Sure they should have obeyed the lane control signal, but using a line to distinguish the oncoming side helps greatly. And they seem to like to copy the US's MUTCD so much, so why not their markings too?
