Data Analyst Resume for Career Transition

Writing a resume for transitioning to a new career is different than writing a resume directly out of college or when you're sticking to the same career path. What experience do you have that you can connect to data analytics?

Thank you for the advice! I'm in transition to become a data analyst. I have spent couple of months studying SQL and Python and finished 4 courses on edx and coursera. Since I never got opportunities using SQL and Python at my previous work experience, how should I reflect them on my current resume?

Hi, I'm Fabiola from Chile. I have a bachelor's degree in languages, I did a transition into marketing and sales 3 years ago but I am not happy enough studying marketing as a discipline but as a science. The thing is I am in my second transition. I am learning python, statistics and tableu (4 hours dialy) while I work in marketing full-time. I've been learning a lot. I have my notebook full of notes. I studied economics before languages what helped me with maths... but at the end of the day I don't know how to start the practice process. Could you help me? Many companies hire marketing analysts which would blend your marketing experience with the skills you are building in data analysis.

Hi Jen! I'm thinking of transitioning to a Financial (Data) Analyst. In your professional opinion, is there also a demand for those roles?

Absolutely! Depending on the company and where the data analyst role reports, a lot of data analyst jobs do deal with a financial component already. One of my earlier data analyst roles was working with financials for warranty - projecting costs in the warranty life and reevaluating past predictions as product information changed. Almost any marketing or sales related data analyst position is also going to have some element of financial analysis.
