This video has great information. How is "Statistician" different from "Data analyst" in terms their roles and career paths? If possible, it would be great to have some examples in the medical research and/or healthcare field. Thank you!
@TheCareerForce5 жыл бұрын
There's definitely overlap in these roles. Statistics is a great background for a data analyst to have. Typically the main difference is a statistician is often much more involved in defining and collecting data at the source so they're often found in research positions. In medical research or healthcare, statisticians would be more common to find involved in Clinical drug trials where information and data is being collected and analyzed. There's also a very heavy emphasis on the math for a statistician vs a data analyst is expected to also pull in a more business information. A data analyst may be found in a hospital system using already collected data and analyzing it for trends and areas for improvement.

Thanks for the great video! I am considering to start a career as data analyst, but didnt have the full picture. What my question is: how does this rallye to big data and machine learning? Thanks!

I took the quiz. Result shows business analyst or enterprise architect. Where do I go from here? Should I continue brushing up my technical skills in Data analyst and grow to business analyst role and etc? If Business analyst is most fitting role for me? What language(s) should I be learning? I have been doing a lot of research on DA/DS/BA, and according to my research, Business Analyst should focus more on Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx and Qlik. Hope to hear your thoughts soon.

Are you working as a data analyst already? You're right that business analyst skills in any of those tools would be helpful for visualizing data. Most business analyst roles will use little to no programming so I wouldn't recommend focusing much in that area unless you want to grow further in a technical role before moving into one of these lateral positions. Communication / presentation skills are very important to the BA role and data visualization is a key piece that can also help you stand out.

The Career Force no, currently I’m not a DA. I have been doing lots of research to see what digital space I should transform my career path. To be honest, I already have more than 20+ years experience in business/sales/marketing field. Specifically in the tech industry (hardware dev, manufacturing, biotechnology). And I really don’t know if I should go full speed on data science, data analyst or business analyst. It occurs to me that BA maybe better digital transformation for me. I don’t have a whole lot of programming background and I don’t know if investing in programming is a good choice at this time of my career.
@TheCareerForce5 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you're considering multiple different options for digital transformation in your career. You're not too late to learn programming but it's also not a necessity to highly develop those skills if that's not something that you find interesting. Since you have substantial experience, I'd recommend leveraging that experience along with data analytics or business analytics. What that could look like practically is a marketing DA/BA or manufacturing DA/BA position. Manufacturing is one of the fastest growing areas for data analysts right now. I'd be happy to work with you on your career goals and the best way to move forward with them based on your existing experience. If you're interested in setting up a 60 minute session, email me at jennifer at thecareerforce.com and I'll send you more details.

In school, I have to choose a big data stream that teaches big data and data mining or financial analytics stream which is more finance-focused... I feel the school course is assignment heavy but learn on the surface so I am thinking to get the degree of financial analytics and spend more time online learning data science. I wonder is the title of "big data" in degree matters when searching for a data analyst job? Thank you for doing this video! Super helpful!

Are there some kind perequesits to be able to call ourselves "data analyst" ? Is it something that I can put on my resume and wait for the interview to show what I am capable of ?
@TheCareerForce5 жыл бұрын
Talk about the skills you have that match the data analyst profile instead of calling yourself a data analyst in your job title. These are going to give you a higher likelihood of matching for a position than just having the title. Don't list your job title as data analyst unless that was your actual job title. If you really want it on there, put a bullet point in your work history that says "Performed data analyst responsibilities of...". This way you're drawing attention to it while also not claiming to have the actual job title which could hurt you when it comes out that you didn't actually have that title. You can also use data analyst within your LinkedIn headline which will be seen by recruiters or hiring managers that are searching for candidates or looking at your profile.

Great video once again! When you are mentioning SME, is there main fields that data analysts can get into?
@TheCareerForce5 жыл бұрын
There are a massive number of options for SME roles in almost every industry and even niches within industries. The size of an industry may impact how many roles there are, but the specialist type position also could help with longer term job prospects. Tech, manufacturing, banking, and healthcare would be some of the major areas. Even within these there are more specific areas such as warranty expertise exist and this could even narrow further to in retail warranties or commercial warranties (think working for Amazon vs working for Mack Trucks).

Hey jain, Could you please help me out with how much machine learning do a technical data analyst require. Like random forest and decision tree.
@TheCareerForce5 жыл бұрын
Hi Vikrant. You won't need to know much machine learning starting out as an analyst. As you progress down a more technical path, machine learning becomes more important. I also expect that it will be come increasingly important in the future as it becomes more of a standard practice and less of a niche application.
